  1. and thats a 65-70cm king i got jigging in winter. I have many little videos here and there of me and the crew. Will post some more later. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_6vz_BNoZNA R_Zee
  2. i will beat Kelvin to say that he has owned a side scan for a few months and he has used it well to say the least
  3. having said that i have seen many people with 585's getting nothing. it would be good to run classes to teach how to read raw data off a sounder. thats an art on its own. The pictures posted by Kelv are very very educational. R_Zee
  4. just for the clarification i had a big ray (i think) take a live squid that was meant to be for a jew last friday. i thought i was snagged at first and asked kelvin to motor around to try and get my rig back. then it took off slowly and i knew it was a fish and i wanted to get it up to surprise kelvin when its on the side of the boat. this was on the heavy outfit the torsa with 70lb or so braid. i tried to stop the run with my thumb then by setting the drag to sunset (12kgs). by that time kelvin looked and saw the line still peeling quickly. i had the rod straight down so he couldnt see the bend. he asked "are you free spooling it are ya?" i said yeah here try and get it off! he took the rod and felt the weight it was halarious! You just cant ask for better company R_Zee
  5. For you who dont know. If you can tie your knots properly and have confidence that your 20lb iron braid doubled will hold 6kg of drag you can easily fish for anything from squid to serious kings. The combo is a Shimano Stella 4000 on a Daiwa Saltiga Dorado A-Rounder 70S. A-Rounder for All Rounder. have lost a few bigguns but i cant say i have landed half the serious kings i hooked on my 20000 Stella. I am happy to land less fish as im doing it more and more for the sport. We are only keeping 1 or 2 fish per person anyway and its heaps more fun on the lighter gear. We set our drag using scales and 6kgs is a fair bit. Kelvin sets his Torsa on 8kgs and i dont really think an angry king will give you time to go to sunset... not where we fish anyway. I have spent hours at Kelvin's house getting tips on bettering the knots and which to use on different brands of line even. Iron braid is dry, Fire Line is glossy and slips if you're not careful so you use a different method to join to the leader. All tips were demonstated by the way of scales and breaking points are documented on excel sheets that even the manufaturers will pay for Dr Kelvin spends hours at home reading about tackle and fishing in general. and spends more time on the water than most charter operators. its all about how much you know when you're out there. 6. its called the Kelvin special combo and u cant get it at GOLO
  7. just a couple of pics of the jews we got on lure. Peter's was 15lb mine 8lb kelvin got a 93cm king yesterday and actually said "its a fu**ing king" haha! he was jumping around the boat when he got the flatty... he's lost it! R_Zee
  8. haha! i am sure you look for them Kelvin! by the way Kelvin and i went out for a quick bash in the arvo and i got another jew this time on a lure! got a couple of flatties while targetting the jews. kelvin couldnt escape the kings! im seriously starting to worry!! i think a good name for the trophy would be "Seriola Magnet"
  9. The secret entry code is "i will not tell no 1 nothing" lol
  10. Red we wer going for Jews.. I think the kings were the by catches of the session same as when we wer going for flatties ... seriously
  11. I dont think it was the same fish it would've recognised the boat. or may be it thought we wer gonna release it again?!
  12. the number of fish caught on the day doesnt matter.. a funny story i tell is when we were downrigging middle harbour a few months ago (yes in winter) we were looking at the sounder and kelvin spotted a fish right at the bottom. he jumped to the downrigger adjusted the depth and looked at the rod saying "take it! take it!" next thing you know the rod buckled.. it might not sound too much in summer but im talking about a windy winter day with very few fish around. the fish was a loner and it was massive! i dont think we saw anything else on the sounder that day! Kelvin never falls asleep! i get to sleep a fair bit though unless someone hits a sunfish doing 25knots every now and then!
  13. I had a tough day with bait only managed one squid a one cuddle fish. i guess i should copy someone and soak my jigs in egimax OVERNIGHT. perth is T-5weeks! samspon here we come!
  14. hey Kelvin... you forgot you also netted the fish! i cant possibly explain the experience of fishing with Uncle Kelvin and do it justice.. "i got 2 kings coming up on the sounder" 5 seconds later its a double hook up! "Thats a jew! thats a jew! drop the baits to the bottom"... 2 minutes later jew on the deck! Kelvin does 90% of the work and makes it took easy to catch fish. that next marlin is all yours mate i just wanna catch all the jewies!
  15. thanks for a top day out Kelvin! i have been due for a good jew all this time on the water! We have been quiet all winter doesnt mean the fishing has been lets do it again next week.. R_Zee
  16. hmmm.. kings dont breed untill they reach 65-70cm i am agreeing with them on that one. a 60cm king is a baby and i think it should be released. Tony
  17. How good is that! i will definitely be taking some week days off this year!! I hope you get plenty more guys, it seems to be a promising season. See you on the water
  18. thanks for organising such a lovely event.. I must admit Ross you're a great entertainer, i hope you're the same on the boat! mate i will be contacting you soon to organise a few days out next summer. Tony

  21. haha!! i love it!!! Tony
  22. hey Ophet, mate we'll take a couple of boats and go down.. i spend a month there every year and i know enough to go out and get some fish. im in if you're keen. Tony
  23. i got some fish around the 1.1m mark, 250g daiwa sacrifice in gold and silver, in about 120m off sydney. i dont like to live bait much, im addicted to this jigging business and i think its a fine way to catch big kings. work the jig slow like i said further up. i dont use wind-on's, fluro carbon leader around 100lb will do. Tony never get tired mate!! live baiting is not an option... i get out there to jig and thats it hehe flattie man you're a crack up.. havent caught a flattie in months.... Kelvin really gave me the kingfish bug in summer, and now i cant get enough of jigging. have you caught your kingy yet? Tony thats the 585, kelvin's sounder. i got a 7000. tony Thanks John, mate i got my bag limit 4 times this month! i thought the summer fishing was unreal... this is too good!! im way too spoilt now.
