  4. Hey Kelvin, congrats on the fish! im so jealous coz i had to work today!! i sneaked out and got a dozen squid jigs and put a T-curve on order to pick up friday... I think the guy was trying to sell me the other rod coz he didnt have the 10-15kg in stock!! i got some new gloves that i can hang to dry up as well as the other ones i purchased stink!! whats trace did you land the big fish on??
  5. hey John, The Saltiga has been working great. I landed 80-90 cm kings and they felt close to 60cm kings, just slower head thumps and a little heavier. I fish heavy as im sick of losing the bigguns. 9 out of 10 fish dont take drag... the one out of 10 im losing. tony
  6. hey guys, good to see you Netic and offtap on the water. I lost 2 fish today and landed 3. the 3 fish landed were 81cm, 67cm and 61cm. lost a fish close to 70 on the side of the boat and the second fish lost was another story.. i downrigged a good size squid on my saltiga 6500 on a 40-60lb G loomis bluewater rod. The rod is the strongest spinning reel G Loomis produce and it's made to fight tuna offshore. i got a hit on that rod and i've never seen it bend like that before. The 81cm king did not take line off 12kg drag, it was skull dragged to the boat. This fish ran deep, the rod bent like you wouldnt believe and my leader popped. i think it was a shark, if this fish was a king it has to be over 15kg... my thoughts only. anyway guys, a pic off the biggest king i got will be sent in a tick
  7. hey guys... good info there... by the way i just got one and have caught a few kings one it. but im also learning to use my sounder properly and have got a few double and triple hook ups dropping weighted baits down... my biggest king is 9kgs and i got it jigging so im not sure if the method makes a difference. i believe that finding the fish is the key factor
  8. HAHA!! Shit stirring only makes me more determined and anxious to learn... Always a pleasure reading your posts Kelvin
  9. Hey bro, all you need to do is jump the fence... its waypoint 002 haha do you keep your sounder on the boat Kelvin? haha i am going out saturday and sunday.. might hit browns sunday, and if i get time to get a downrigger will target kings on saturday.. whos planning what??
  10. hello guys, i am looking for a good downrigger.. i have been recommended a scotty 1050 depthmaster downrigger by a couple of fellow raiders. Please drop a message if you know a good place to get them. Thanks, Tony
  11. Thanks for the good info.. i will be fishing this sunday coming.. will try and get a down rigger on wednesday as i am having half the day off work. looking forward to seing you on the water again.. Tony
  12. Hey Guys, Long time since i've posted.. I didnt mind the weather and chop but i must admit i was frustrated with no fish.. Klevin got em in one buy one and made it look so easy.. I had some live squid i got in the morning but i couldnt get them down enough as the kings were just a couple of meters off the bottom. Kelvin congrats on your new boat, some great effort and thoughts in the set up... I just wanna ask a couple of questions that i'd like to share with the raiders.. I could clearly see the bait ball but i couldnt spot the kings.. the sounder isnt the best but i think i should be able to tell if i had the experience. Is it the depth? bait ball on top and kings at the bottom? besides, just with the bait ball, how do you know that it's not a school of sweep, jackets or whatever.. i desperately need some sounder knowledge!! by the way im buying a down rigger this week.. what is a good model for the harbour? which one do you use? thanks again for your help Kelvin, you are truely making alot of raiders including me better kingy fishermen. Tony
  13. nice one Kelvin! see you on the water soon
  14. hey mate, if you're getting them you're surely not on flathead grounds. they are ugly but they are good eating. hardest bit in cleaning is decapitating them while they give u that evil stare!! Tony

    Need Help

Kelvin never uses snap swivels on lures for 2 reasons: - takes away from the action - due to the snap being so close to the fish's mouth it might well open up would you like to add anything Kelvin?

    Harbour Incident

hey guys, i was just having my morning coffee when i heard something on the news about a jet boat hitting a tinny with 2 fishoes on board.. older man had a heart attack and was taken to hospital and younger man is suffering minor injuries. anyone heard anything? R_Zee
  21. thats some solid fish there! mate the way i see it is you go troll for game fish... if you get a marlin its a bi-pass... we targeted marlin for 2 weeks at the banks last year got a couple of touches but no fish. We got our first in winter trolling lures for yellow fin at browns... and didnt get a fin noting that we went to browns 6 times and worked hard on cubes and lures. so the way i see it is you take what the big blue offers!! 22. Hey Kelvin, I had 2 great sessions around the heads last week. landed close to 60 i'd say between 4 of us. i got all mine on bass assassin plastics. the plasitcs were getting smashed and i had to change the lure every time. they even bent my hooks a few times as i was using jig heads i usually use for flatties. i didnt get anything over 67cm. thank you for the tip... i will try and get a bigger one next time. When you say keep the livies down deep do you mean on the bottom? if not how high off the bottom in say 20m of water? Cheers, Tony
