  6. Hey Guys, i wasnt supposed to get out today as its the last day before the 4 day break. But i got a phone call from Charly, my 30 year old young uncle, asking me to take him today as he will be busy with his family on the weekend. I have been wanting to take Charly out for a while now so i said what the heck.. lets do it... but i had to be back at the office by 1:30 so i didnt have much time to play with. Hit the water relatively late at 7:00 as i had to work back last night due to the short notice... got 4 squid at the usual spots, and a bream that was swimming around on a hard body lure. i love my sharp tooth, bite the squid jig off, tie the sx40 on, hook the bream, put it in the esky, bite the sx40 off, and we're back to squidding! at bout 9:30 i decided to hit the Kings.. i just wanted 2 for the dinner table, as you know on Good Friday Catholics are not supposed to eat meat nor chicken, Charly was relying on me and pressure was on. A trusted source told me that the markers are infested with Jackets, and that the kings abandoned the usual reefs we have been picking them up on so i had to come up with somthing. The other day while everyone was fishing for yakkas, i picked up a king that i saw amongst the yakkas. The plan was to burley up the yakkas, and hope that kings will come and check out the action... i made about 30L of home made burley, cost me $6 and kept a cloud of yakkas in a feeding frenzy around the boat. soon enough, 2 kings came by, i was on in a blink. but where's charly? He's catching and releasing yakkas!! and he hasnt even rigged up!!! he runs for the net, i said dont worry about the net! throw a squid down!! he riggs up in a minute or so as im watching the 2 kings swim together. as soon as he threw his bait down he was on. i pulled my fish in, measured 62cm. soon enough his twin was boated. Charly was stocked! we were fishing fairly light as i didnt expect to pull up hoods 2m away from the boat in 3m of water stayed there for another 20 minutes but no more action. Charly really wanted to downrigg live squid at the markers which we did for zilch... toooo many jackets. decided to call it quits about mid day. not a bad morning in beautiful Sydney Harbour. Tony
  7. Hey Steve! good to c u on the water man.. thanks for filling my live bait tank with squid... never found the kings. i went out yesterday and got 5, no size just rats. i must say i am making good friends on the water this year, Netic and yourself are real gentlemen and deserve good karma! c you on the water soon! Tony
  8. thats what its there for mate
  9. yes i do burley sometimes but i have never got a big fish that way. i usually boil some rice (30 L bucket) and mince a bag of pillied into it, throw some catfood, wateva i find ... that drives the kings insane... then i throw plastics in the trail.. i've caught up to 40 fish in one day that way... 15 or so keepers (just). it's good fun.. try it
  10. Thats the way man.. which boat are you on?
  11. thanks mate.. its a 7m sport fisher, dark blue with a 175 honda. we were lucky to hook up a better fish.. i worked hard that day though, i was getting frustrated as i really wanted to get the youngsters fish. it was good fun... i'll be out there again tomorrow. stay posted for another report thanks Oz, will c u on the water soon.
  12. no probs Anthony, the boat is 23 foot sport fisher, 175 four stroke Honda pushes it with ease.. i try different depths... try to find the big fish on the sounder and go to the correct depth. when i only see bait i usually go in the middle of em, if that doesnt work i go a little deeper. im not a real expert on that, still in trial and error. i use live or fresh squid, not a big fan of downrigging strips, seems to work for people though
  13. its the best feeling to see the big smiles on their faces mate.. at least i know they will take me with them one when im too old to take my boat! tony
  14. he's hooked!! for life..
  15. good stuff mate! was it at night that you got the squid? Tony
  16. we downrigged half our baits.. some people like to skin the strip and use a clean white bait. i leave the skin on and dip it in ink! just make sure what ever you do that the bait doesnt spin.. try to feed the hook into it like a worm, or just hook it once . Tony
  17. mate some people just cant help themselves
  18. G'day fellow fishos... met up with Kelvin at 5:00am at his house.. the weather report on the radio wasnt good at all so i wasnt really sure what the day has to hold.. Kelvin had to go back in and get a jumper as it was a little colder than usual. I questioned the weather as the bureau issued a strong wind warning for enclosed waters.. Kelvin replied "the Southerlies dont bother me much.. all the squidding spots are sheltered" i guess i had to wait and see. We had The ramp at Roseville for ourselves on a Sunday, i was thinking we're the only fools out here! we got 8 squid in an hour or so.. the wind didnt help but my new squidding outfid did... got 4 good size squid in a row... Kelvin performed under pressure and equalised in a hurry! when we got to the main harbour it was blowing with white caps. downrigged a squid at spot 1 and Kelvin picked up a nice 90cm+ kingy we then decided to move after pickers took the heads off our squids.. bloody tailor spot 2 i picked a king close to 80cm we got some more fish on strips ... ended up keeping 7 odd fish including an samson fish and a tailor. Thanks for the day out Kelvin, will see you on wednesday morning... another day, another report Cheers, Tony
  19. Hey raiders, i havent been posting much as i have been very busy at work (when im not fishing ) my younger brother George (15) and little cousin Mark (12) have been nagging me to take them out so they booked me in for saturday. Charly came along as well on his 3rd trip fishing for kings despite the short notice (called him at 4:30 in the morning ) left home at 5:30 after packing up extra snacks for the young fellows. picked up mark and told his mum that she gets 3 phone calls so she had to use them wisely hit the squid sopt no1 where Master Kelvin pulled up shortly, after a chat we both moved to different spots looking for squid. Ended up with 8 squid, 6 for uncle Tony, 1 for George (first squid) and one for Charly.. Marky came up with heaps of weed! had enough of catching squid (sort of) and decided to go find some kings. I tried 3 spots over 2.5 hours for nothing... the usual spots were deserted! saw Netic and Offtap on the water, Netic told me he got some good squid that day. Good to see you shared them mate i was going to go back and find you if mine werent enough! Decided to try middle harbour, George and Mark were asleep on the floor and Charly was starting to give up. I told him i will find the buggers and i knew i will. On the way to MH i saw someone hooked on a fish at the wedding cake so decided to troll a squid down. I told mark that he gets stricke number 1 as he is the youngest and that he no luck with the squid. the sounder showed a good bait ball that kept moving around. saw Flight Manager anchored next to the wedding cake, he told me he got smoked twice so my adrenalin started pumping. i knew the fish had little chance going too far as my 6500 Saltiga is equipped with 80lb braid and the drag is set at 15kg this time! got the first hit within seconds and b4 he knew it, Marly landed a 65cm king, his first decent fish. George was next, downrigged another bait and soon enough got a strike... I asked Charly to remove the rod from the holder, but the T-Curve refused to move! that was within 5 m from the structure, i knew it was a better fish so i motored away b4 helping the guys to land the fish. whe the rod was passed to George he almost lost it. He had no idea how strong these fish are. he asked me to take the rod off him as he was struggling to hold the fish with the drag almost locked. I told him that it's not going anywhere and he had to land it himself. a few minutes later he landed a 10lb fish that went 86cm. We were within meters from Ross and few other boats that were anchored around the structure. picked up a couple more good fish and some more between 58-65 cm. All up we kept 7 fish... decided to call it a day at 1:30 and gave some fresh squid to Ross. Did you have any luck after i left mate? I'll let the pics express how happy the guys were.. sorry about the long post ... i might write a post about sunday as well pics turned out too small..
