  1. Hmmmm maybe it due to the recall I heard a month ago of the btr series, or the discontinued line of btrs being made due to faults???I think it was the D series. OR Trying to make up some lost $$$$ due to product losses, or maybe admin costs, or "tech support" Dam
  2. If your after a good light weight torch and not a headlamp, I recommend the wolf-eyes. They are invaluable as a light weight torch, if your prepared to spend the money, as they are definately not cheap, but our SPG cops love them, and some of our special forces soldiers. Which gives you an idea of how good they are. Dan
  3. Nice jews there mate! There are some real bruisers to be had fishing the wall at longy if conditions permit, but you definately want the tackle to drag them out of there crevices and gutters that they like to hold up in amongst the boulders. Dan
  4. Our berley consists of 1 loaf of no frills bread, and 2 cans of pilchards in aspic catfood. Costs you less than $5. Mulch it all together till it forms a dough then stick it in your berley bucket attached to a rope, and away you go. My missus makes our berley, its a condition of fishing with myself and Greg on the boat . She doesnt mind so much especially when she enjoys catching kings nearly as much as me and Greg. Dan
  5. Dunno about the Hawksbury but still plenty in the harbour, and they have stuck around longer than usual. Greg got 7 rats, and 2 dustings in the harbour today. The school was that thick that they were holding under the boat, and every yakka got nailed within minutes of being sent over the side. An hour and a quarter, and 15 yakkas gonnneeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!! Dan
  6. You were right mate with the exception of the quality of fish Mark. Greg got 7 rats, 2 bust offs, one legal at 68cm, and some big tailor (50-60cm). Pity the tailor werent abit smaller as he probably wanted to live bait one of them for a jewie with all the rain we have had. Interesting point thou it was mainly the yakkas and stripped up tailor that did most of the damage on the kings, the squid got pecked to death until he started putting them down whole, not a good return a rat=whole squid. Dan
  7. Nice work as always Mark  . Greg and Kelly were out yesterday all they got were rats but still fun for her, not so much for Greg. His heading out again tonight. Dan
  8. Great idea,,,,,,,, I still remember sending a audio clip I recorded on my phone to a mate about 5-7yrs ago as we where stripping the line off a tld, but it wasnt using this method :-).... Still remember the ZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz Dan
  9. They can be picky buggers. One day in middle harbour in shallow water 12 bust offs on a light 4-6ks spin stick i took by mistake. Had 3 other rods out as well, 2 10-15kg outfits, and a 8-10kg outfit, But they always went the lightest possible,,,, typical!! Dan
  10. There are still alot of good fish around to be had by the keen fisho's willing to fish in all conditions. I havent fished for nearly 3 months now, and Greg nearly 2 months due to the boat requiring a huge service with parts having to be imported from the US. But by all accounts and numerous phone calls I get from fishing mates with weekly updates, there are some very, very good fish to be had. Cant wait to get out. Pity the motor is still out of action for another 2-3weeks Dan
  11. Had similiar problems with TPG over 2 months, had a few complaints to the TIO, as for 2 months my service was out. Full refund and didnt pay for the next 2 months service after it was fixed. Sometimes it pays to keep on annoying the telco carrier, but sometimes they keep annoying you with calls that the service has been fixed, we need to speak to your building manager about access to the MDF, its not our fault, we rent our lines off telstra so its there problme, blah blah blah,,,,,, its a very frustrating situation but one thats worth it especially when your paying for a service that is sub-standard. Dan
  12. Use a bait jig with size 6-8 hooks, cut the jig into 2 so you have 2, 3 hook rigs, then tie a few spilt shot sinkers to the bottom of your rig. Dan
  13. There are no sure fire places for squid like everything else, best advice is have a very close read of the article i believe slinky, forgive me if Im wrong, and a few other members put together on chasing squid. Sorry I dont have the link for this report. Dan
  14. Within 1.5metres or less of the bottom, occasionally you get snagged up or dusted by a king that might cruise through deep, but thats life. Dan
  15. Yeah a snell rig or a very good adaption of that rig without the need for all the twists etc, and can tie it blind folded...... You said "soft baiting do you guys generally leave the bait on the ocean bed or do you actually spin it'??? What do you mean exactly? Do we fish our fresh but dead squid on the bottom? If so the answer is a DEFINATE NO! We crank it up 1-4metres off the bottom but this is dependant upon where your fishing. IE in 15metres of water we bring it up 2.5-4ms off the bottom when chasing kings, as you jews thats a completely different story. Dan
  16. We typically use either a size 4 owner etc for a yakka pinned beind the head, and the same but a double rig of 4-0's for squid. Only time we change is when chasing jews when we both use 5, and "sometimes" 6-0's if we are out of 5's Dan
  17. Its also worth a shot trying in around the moorings at north harbour, there can be alot of peckers, but sooner or later the kings do cruise through. Though with the water visaility I would fish our baits in the bottom 1/3 of the water column. Dan
  18. There are still plenty of squid around if your prepared to put the hours in, and fish in some of the terrible weather we have had the last couple of weeks. Greg managed 11 the night before last, all were quite small and dropped another 3-5 at the boat. Dan
  19. Awesome king there mate, would have given you absolute hell trying to land that by yourself. Niiiicccceee Dan
  20. Very nice work there Mark as per usual Dan
  21. Hey Mark, how was NZ? Got your SMS! very, very jealous! Dan
  22. Pity about the lack of fish, but the harbour is very far from being dead!! Dan
  23. This is a report Im posting upon Greg's behalf. On Friday night Greg headed out with a good mate of his Steve chasing some squid and kings. At 10pm they launched the boat of out Tunks chasing some squid and yakkas with success. By 5am they had enough for a session so they ventured into the main harbour where they began fishing the harbour markers. it wasnt long before they had a few hits and a rat landed before finally Greg nailed his first Sydney harbour john Dory. And a bloody good size one at that coming in at 51cm. They proceeded to fish the main markers for a few more hours with a couple more kings being landed before they headed back into Middle Harbour for the change of the tide. It wasnt long before rods began to buckle over again with screaming reels, and some nice jews and more kings were landed! . Both of the jews fell to live pilchards that Greg caught after they began busting up on the surface all around the boat. He only manage to catch 2 pilchards before the school went deep. After 14hrs on the water they decided enough was enough and pulled the boat out of the water abit after midday yesterday. All in all between Greg and Steve they caught 1 dory at 51cm, 2 jews(85cm or something, and a 99cm model), and 8 kings all of which were legal bar one! Greg accounted for all of this fish with the exception of the rat which Steve caught after he snuck a bloody banana onto the boat , karma! Dan These were all the pics he took considering it was a very hectic, but productive session
  24. More than happy to "hitch" a ride and give your a few spots, and starting techniques as the boat is Gregs and Im unable to tow it with my car without killing the engine. Happy to throw in for the costs of fuel, I always bring 2 beers for myself (mind you over 6-10hrs fishing), and whatever else is required. Feel free to drop me a PM especially with the Christmas break coming up and all construction sites being closed for 10-14days Dan
  25. Look forward to it mate!! Hope your having a Xmas break from selling houses to the rich and the famous in the eastern suburbs??? . But honestly mate was abit disappointed you werent at your father in laws birthday the other week with Mandy and the kids,,,,, has been wayyyyy wayyy tooo long since we have caught up! Might have to speak to Mandy, and get her on your back about a fishing trip chasing the kings again. Speaking of which still getting into a heap of them, mainly rats but some monsters that have just blownen us away. Dan PS can you PM me your mobile no again, when I upgraded to a IPHONE, damn thing, your number wasnt stored in the sim, rather my ole nokia that was rooted
