  1. We spent a week down there 2 weeks ago looking for the kings to no joy!!! Was probably 2-4 weeks too early. There was absolutely heaps of bait at middle ground but no kings. Hope you had better luck that we did. Dan
  2. Nice work as I would expect from you Mark . Greg hit the water Saturday but decided to stay inside, he lost a very solid king at our favourite spot on a strip of squid. Ran deep, hard, even went into overstrike. Dan

Been down there the 7days fishing, a bucket load of mackerel and pike on middle ground, but not much else. And no sign of any kings, probably still abit too cold. Dan
  4. I recently bought the tyrnos 16, as a bit of a lighter rigger than my heavier tld30 2 speed to chase kings. Its a sensational reel for lighter work than my tld but perfect for the kg range I was looking at (8-12Kg) Dan
  5. Watch out for the bommies inclose, as they break frequently and sporadically in any sort of swell. If you fish the wall at Longy make sure you have a really tight drag, as the kings and jews that inhabit this rock wall love nothing better than burying you in the boulders. Dan
  6. Nice work Mark, you might need to up your gear and start fishing abit more if your already getting blownen away by kings . I love the new sounder!!! Did you get that pic I sent through to you the other day? Im still yet to get the gps position but as soon as I do I will send them through to you so you know exactly where Im talking about. Dan
  7. I would NOT recommend to fish or even drift within the naval waters around Penguin at Middle Head. I have several close mates who in charge of the security on this base and you will be severly warned off by them , with police called and possibly a naval patrol vessel called as well. If your lucky a warning will be issued but they, ie the police upon request of the navy have the powers to fine etc. As much as the water looks good around HMAS Penguin for fish just consider two things, 1. Do you know for fact there arent naval divers in the water, especially when then dont operate by the same rules as commercial divers even whilst training???? AND 2. How much would you be prepared to pay $$$$ to fish it if you are fined, not just warned? Mark g w you are allowed to fish outside the naval drums of chowder, but not inside them, ie east of the drum at clifton. Dan
  8. We have 5 of these reels, and they have never failed us. Can definately pump out enough drag to match a 90cm+ king, small whaler sharks, etc. Dan
  9. There have been HEAPS of rats around this winter. I know my brother Greg has caught a bare minimum of 50 over the last 2 months whilst chasing Jews. Just last Monday he caught 4 rats on yakkas. Pity they were undersized. Dan
  10. Yeah and with the older fabric sorta jiggs, they cause the fabric to rot, or fall apart if you dont wash them after using a good dose of egimax Dan
  11. Yeah, the primary reason why we launch at 10pm the night before,,, it not only beats the weekend warriors, but it gives you ample time to gather your liveys, both squid and yakkas alike . Before you pick your spot before at 5am, and watch them all come charging frantically out of the ramp , and retrieve your boat at 10-11am, whilst laughing your a@# off at people trying to get out there when the best fishing of the day is over. Dan
  12. Its amazing how winter puts alot of people off fishing but the rewards are there to be had. In the last month, my older, brother Greg has had some huges sessions in the harbor,,, to name a few 24yakkas= 11+ rats in less than 2 hours, 3 legal jews in a session (including a metre job lost boatside), countless sessions of missed jew runs, some decent size sharks, alot of salmon and big 50cm+ tailor. Be prepared to get out of a warm bed at 4am when the temp is 10 degrees or coldier, or spend alnighter out their catching your live bait, and your in with a better chance of catching a quality fish! Dan
  13. Nice work as per usual Mark!!!!!!!!! . Hope you still got some SBT left? . Did you manage to find that spot in the harbour I mention to you? Greg had another good session, the day after I spoke to you fishing it. Dan
  14. If you dont lose a jig every now and then, you arent fishing deep enough for squid. Gets to be rather expensive, but hey catching squid makes it worth it. Dan
  15. A photocopy is no good, you either need the receipt of purchase or the actual license. I got stung several years ago at Clifton Garden when I sometimes fished from land. I'd left my tackle box in the boat, and take 1 rod with a squid jig rigged up. However I was lucky and given a warning, & told next time I would be fined if caught without either 'proof' of the receipt of purchase or the license itself to quote the Fisheries Officer. I was bloody lucky, as at the time requiring a fishing license had only been in effect a couple of months, I think they were looking to educate people on this at the point time, not penalise them. Lucky for me! Dan
  16. At this time of the year its usually not too bad, But I would launch by absolute lastest 530am. Espeically with the nice weather we have this weekend. My brother greg was out today and launched at Tunks however he put the boat in the water at 11pm Friday night and dragged it out today at 1130am and Tunks was a S@#T fight with the amount of people there! Dan
  17. Dunno about the area your fishing in but we find in winter they are alot harder to get as the bait is less abundant in the colder weather therefore yakkas much easier pickings for the resident predators, whereas in summer even though they are alot more predators there 'typically' tends to be alot more bait, so easier to catch yakkas. Just our theory anyway. Also as a result we have to have our yakkas by 5am or before, otherwise they go deep and are very very hard to catch. Dan
  18. I have used similiar sort of jigs. Believe they are called razor back jiggs or something,,, had limited success with them. Like everything, hit and miss I suppose,,,,Got any pics of em? Dan
  19. GREAT LIVE BAIT . Seen a 65cm "rat" kingy taking a 27cm pike, took it almost 5 mins to get it down, and countless runs,,,, but was amusing to watch, except for one factor, there was alot of bigger 80cm+ kings in the school. This happened a couple years back in middle harbour but still have fond memories of it. Dan
  20. It doesnt help when the maritime construction piling rig can only slam in 2 pylons a day, and thats if the cable chains dont break and have to be re-threaded, boat repositioned, etc, etc, etc. A painfully time consuming event I can tell you after working on the piling rig a year or 2 back in rose bay when they started expanding the wharf out further. Dan
  21. Greg proved that to be true earlier this week with 3 jews, 2 in the low 70's and a 92cm, pity he lost a much bigger jew which spat the bait. Dan
  22. Yup, thats "typical" of construction work before a long weekend, knock off at 12pm-2pm. I should have been in the same situation except for hitting 3 different job sites, BLL, Mirvac, and Crookes. None of them closed early , which is the typical practice before a long weekend. Dan
  23. Pity you never got to see what nailed your lively. With this weather putting alot of people off fishing there are some bloody good fish to still be caught Dan
  24. Nice work on the squid and tailor bud! Gregs packing the boat now for the obligatory 12-14hr stint in the tinny in Sydney Harbour. 6 hrs squidding, 6hrs-8hrs fishing. Stuff that Im going to bed Dan
