  1. thanks for the replies, just after a hobie guys... really keen on one of them looking for replies from experienced users within the fields that I am interested in. price doesnt matter at this stage, which is why i am asking "which one" as I know the models get more expensive as you go up the ladder. James
  2. hi all, so i'm buying a hobie kayak this week - but which one do i get? i want to use it for chasing trevs, kings, salmon & the like in botany bay... as well as some light offshore & headland work. i've done as much research as I can and whilst what I have found does give some insight; I am still very much undecided. please offer some advice, & why I should purchase a particular model for the above-mentioned style of fishing. James
  3. Tufline do a great red braid in 50lb, ive been using it for some time bottom fishing and am yet to get a bite off - the red braid trick definately works! they dont bite it.
  4. where did you get those lures Snag? James
  5. ive seen and read a lot about the xrap 04, are they out yet? does anyone know anythin about them? ive seen only pictures and they look pretty schmick. james
  6. all i use is dojo hooks on my rigs, bloody brilliant hookup if fished on the right gear - but i'll be stuffed if i'd run that rig on 24kg with 8kg of drag and heaps of line drag and water pressure - it's like putting trolley wheels on a F250! for all tuna rigs i use heavy duty dojos as they have softer mouths so penetration is not an issue, all stripe and black marlin rigs (10kg & 15kg) i'll run light dojos to ensure positive hookups; and anything bigger for blues see the heavy duty 35 and 40 hooks come in to play. it's all about fishing the right gear in the right situation. James
  7. Rapala owns the Marttiini factory Lunatic - from my understanding they source the Finnish steel for some of their own knives. James
  8. Flatboy - it should have a size written on the spool somewhere??
  9. i have a couple of Marttiini knives - great all rounders. expensive but you get what you pay for! James
  10. looks like a bream to me - and a very nice one at that! well done.
  11. hi guys, i'm looking at getting a new set of 15 & 24kg rollered game rods, i dont really have a budget and i want the best that i can get (value for money anyway), i am also considering having my rods custom made. what components make a good game rod? Aftco roller guides or Alps roller guides? which is better? is there anything else that you prefer? thanks all, James
  12. nice setup, you have a bunch of good lures there although that Rapala CD is an unreal estuary/freshwater lure, not a hardcore kingfish lure so I don't think the Countdown would be up to the task after numerous fish. the Rapala you want is the CD magnum in a 7cm, 9cm or 11cm (the one with the metal bib, see below picture) James
  13. i have always used tufline and sufix matrix pro in 30lb and 50lb, found them both to be sensational lines for what you are looking at doing. i run a lot of the rapala 30 xraps on my 50lb game gear, anything less at 1.3 strike setting and they can start pulling drag.

you need to play with the props, go down in pitch maybe 2 sizes and that should get your WOT to about 5600RPM, your accel will also be improved due to this and overall economy will be better. sharpened and ground SS props are the go for optimum performance as they have minimal grab on the water and cut a finer hole, however watch your legs if getting back into the boat after swimming etc... ive seen stitches as a result of carelessness the package should have really been setup correctly by the dealer in the first place.
  15. definitely a little mako, great eating at that size but i can't bring myself to kill them. puppy dogs of the ocean!
  16. well done buddy gotta love those xraps, i know a few guys in PNG that use them to specifically target sailfish! regards james1990
  17. There is nothing at Hyams beside a beach and a few houses. Vincentia and Husky are more acustomed to travelling anglers.
