  1. Live Whiting are GUN bait for big Jewies. The only problem is Whiting are SO tasty on the plate I find it hard to thread one out live when I can eat the swet flesh, lol
  2. WOW! Beaut Jewie mate Gotta be happy with a feed like that ... My missus bring me god luck too My 10kg Jew was caught with her, as was my PB Red of 58cm from NZ while she was pregnant with our first... Various charters we have both nailed good fish on Sth Coast, lots of fun when we both can get out If only she wuld come more often then maybe she wil understand all the hoo-haa and my obsession with fishing for Jewies.
  3. Jewgaffer, I can do this for you if you like... I'll PM yu my mobile number and I can upload and forward via email to you today Cheers Anthony
  4. Finally got some piccies from the night. 1. Livies in bucket 2. Whiting 3. Eddies Jewie
  5. WOW! How cool would that be to dive with one of them, even better being a large bull and a calf. Amazing
  6. Went out with mates last night on Parra. left @ 9pm to my local wharf, but couldnt get raise a single yakka , so Dave found a school of Mullet- quickly 6 poddy's and 2 garfish are in the tank and we are off to another spot Livies got some attention after the turn of the low tide. Put on a fresh prawn and got a nice 38cm Whiting in close which was not expected. Just on the top of the tide Eddies reel goes for a little run on squid strip- reel in and its a small soapie of 46cm- into the bucket for the table Next cast, Eddie is on again on same squid- this time he's only 42 so back into the water he goes 3rd cast Ed hooks up again, but it spits the hooks half way in, lol Dave, Clinton and I were struggling with using live Poddy's and fresh squid (we ran out of prawns), no runs. Got a few nice bites but no hookups, squid was being demolished (we suspect choppers or small Bream to be culprits) Stayed until 6:30am home by 7am Nice and relaxing LB session but disappointing as no other Jewies to be had today. Oh well, there's alays next time.
  7. Rats are great fun on light gear mate, you did well in a dinghy to get double hookups I hear the Hawkesbury and Parra rivers are fishing well for Blueys ATM- my mate has been out on Parra and getting them consistently on handlines with pillies. He has also been getting Flatties to 86cm, bream to 50cm and Kingies to 82cm at the one wharf, last night he nailed a nice 65cm jewie on a livie and 5 X Bream up to 48 on live yakkas. Sorry am sworn to secrecy on exact location but I can tell you its west of Gladesville. We're off tonight to chase jewies from another spot near Gladesville- I sure hope the jewie gods are smiling for us tonight, as we have a few special guests coming along (xtosea) from this site and his Mrs and Bub's. Going to be a cracking summer and its my personal summer goal to nail a 15kg Model from the River!
  8. 46cm Blurter is a great size, well done on the catch mate. BTW- where's the piccie??? Says "here's the pic" but there isnt one, lol
  9. Lads, If you can get fresh slimey or yakkas or squid they are the best bait. Squid will work well for Jewies and Kingies. live yakkas are gun for Jewies, Flatties and Kingies, by catch can be big Bream . Slimey slabs are gun for everything from Snapper and Leatherjackets through to Kingies. Fresh Hawkesbury Prawns are also great bait but you have to get up there to Brooklyn vairly early to get the pick of the catch. You can get yakkas from any wharf anytime, but they are on the chew mostly after dark and before sunrise. Slimeys you will mostly get from rocky outcrops of on shallow reefs. Squid try areas like Balmoral and Palm Beach Wharf of a night time with 1.5 or 2.0 sized squid jigs. Hope this helps
  10. Sounds like fun Dave. BTW- have a GR8 wedding and honeymoon !!!! Good luck with everything mate, dont forget to put up a post if you nail a big Red over there in NZ
  11. Bad luck mate on losing them expensive lures. Like Framedtrash I only throw out metal slices and 1/2 X 1/4ers at them, they seem to like them, as do Sabmo's. To get the bigger ones you should troll whole dead garfish- BIG Taylor (Greenback's) LOVE them!!! Just a small tip if you have gar's load them onto 4 X 4/0 or 5/0 ganged hooks with a long trace of wire you wil have them chomping to bits to get at the biat- and gee they smash it hard! As they say, better luck next time budd
  12. Yet another fantastic session Pete. I can only say "inspirational" to say the least, and it can only get better.
  13. Great choice Ray- what a sexy reel Cannot wait to see you post your captures
  14. Nice Muddy matey May I ask where you nailed such a nice specimen??? Were you using a handline or a witches hat??? I know Parra River is full of them, I will be going out this weekend to try and nail some myself YUMMO!- Chiili Mud Crab... mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Here is the one I got from Gladesville in May this year
  15. Top Shelf Ray Keep then awesome reports and piccies comin.
  16. That's an awesome session Pete Great catch of Flatties and Flounder. Well done matey
  17. There are Blueys also up the Parra River and Lane Cove Rivers- my mate Eddie has been getting 1 or 2 each outing on handlines with pillie slabs intended for Bream + getting Flatties up to 86cm and Bream to 40cm same outing every time Taylor to 40cm in same area and Kingies have been caught up past Gladesville Bridge to 86cm in the last week on Bream gear (10lb and whole pillies)- none on live yakkas and squid thought, lol All the Blueys he got have been over 8cm and a few tipped at 10 and 11cm across the shell They are well and truly out there, drop some witches hats with fresh Mullet frames you will nail them for sure. Going to be a cracking summer of jewies, Kingies and monster Muddies and Blueys- get out there and among them fallas WOO-HOO!!!!!!
  18. Pulbah Island is a great place, I fished there earlier this year and got one of my 4/0 hooks completely straightened by a MONSTER! Landed a nice Taylor from there aswell which I butterflied for bait- and then ot a nice 8cm Blue Swimmer crab Be wary of the Bull Sharks though, there are heaps of them on the noth and east side if the Island
  19. 77cm Blurter is a HONKER!!!!!!! What a fantastic catch - gotta love that stuff mate, well done
  20. Silstar make good rods aswell in say 7' as do the real Ugly Stiks I prefer integrated tips for most of my fishing, I also found Penn make some decent rods aswell these days, but inadvertently they are mostly the same blanks as the Silstar and Ugly's I think Silstar have better bindings on the runners and are either 7wrap or 9wrap. I'd be going either a 8-10kg or a 10-15kg rod for that kind of work, although you could get away with a 5-8kg as long as you dont hight-stick it there is little chance of breaking it- your line will break well before the rod if you fish it right. Matched with good 20lb braid and a good fluro or mono wind-on leader you cannot go wrong. Good luck with the purchase bergo
  21. Outdone yourself again Ray I see- mate you got Avoca down-pat Another fine catch! Love the Tarwhine piccie, real flashy and a great sized fish.
  22. What a cracking Kingie Andrew... Damn... I wish I could catch them like that LB What a stonker and great effort all by yourself to fight, drive the tinnie and gaff the beastie! Thats a true achievement for a solo gig mate
  23. Thats a great haul of Taylor mate Should have kept the shark, they actually taste great- you can fillet and skin them same as you would a fish then cut the fillets into steaks or slivers. dip them in milk and coat in flour to make a create batter, shallow fry until golden brown. Flake actually tastes like a cross between chicken and fish (if you can imagine eating fish without the strong fishy flavour then shark fits the bill) :0 YUMMO!!!!!
  24. Nathan, yer we had a great night. I bled him straight away and stuck him head down in a crevice between the rocks to bleed out. Then he went on ice until we left, I havent eaten him yet but I kow he will taste real good, I love eating Taylor. Sam, there arte plenty of rocks platforms around Nth Head, South Head and even Middle head, but some are way more dangerous than others and often just getting there is a mission in itself. Check Google Maps and have a scout around to where is accessible and if you want to try somewhere ask here on the forums and you should get plenty of info. I cannot be more specific as this is only my 2nd rock outing since I stoppped rock-hopping when I was 17 after watching a guy drown off harrington breakwall- such a tragedy and I am very aware of the dangers and limitations of yself these days and I NEVER fish the rocks alone and I also have a backout plan of it all goes to poo. Harold, even though he not my PB (my PB is 84cm from the harbour) he is the biggest model I have seen in a few years of beach fishing- most of the "school" Taylor are between 35 and 42/43cm so he was one of the bigger models I have seen taken this time of year. The good thing is it can only get better from now on, I hope the next time I will have success with the Kingies or even a Jewie, but I would also be happy with a grandfather Cobia like the one in the piccie, only MUCH bigger! what a beautiful fish they are, I was stunned when this guy brought it up we were like WTF!- why is there Cobia in Syd Harbour. I have heard of them Nth and Sth but not in the harbour itself. Cheers for the replies lads, much apprecaited.
