  1. Flatties, Bream and Whiting are fairly common in the Parra and Lane Cove Rivers, aswell as Jewies on the right moon phase. On Beaches you are likely to get Rays, Noahs and Flatties and Bream/Whiting on live beach worms or pippies, they are around most of the year.
  2. OMFG! thats a massive haul Am green with envy mate, well done!
  3. Yer, kinda... Taylor will feed from sunset until about 10pm at most beaches then the bite will slow down and eventually stop. Again same situation, late night you can get individual Taylor from beaches, headlands and in harbour and rivers but they are solitary fish and they are bigger than the usual suspect you would find in the schools. I have foud this out by beach fishing for nearly 20years and I also found same the other night in Parra River when I landed a 40cm model but there were no others- this was a good solitary fish and I never expected them to be found as far up the Parra as I got it (near Gladesville)- it was caught on a sibiki rig with a tiny chunk of pillie and it gave me a good 5 or 10 minute fight on 6lb - lots of curry he tried to brick me multiple times around pylons and under the wharf but some good thinkin by Eddie we kept him outta area when he could dust me and landed safely in the net. My mate Eddie nailed one 50cm a week ago on a 6lb handline intended for yakkas I have fished for Sambo's and taylor pretty much all my life, Taylor are at their peak in Autumn and Spring (now)... but the schools still hang around all through the year, but they wont be as big in the other months, good legal Taylor are also GUN bait for Jewies and Noahs if you butterfly them or chuck out large fillets on a 2 hook rig. Good luck!
  4. Better off fishing first light or late arvo for them, you will get the occasional solo Sambo cruising around @ night but I found they dont school up at night like they do of a morning, this is because the frog-mouth-pilchards are not around in the numbers of a night time like they are at first and last light... The ones you get of a night time are usually BIGGER and fight much harder than those you get during the day but they are also fewer so provisionally you might only get one or two... Most Salmon caught of a night time are off the beaches where they feed on Beach Worms and Pippies Hope this helps
  5. Great piccies and well done on the Breambo (stupid fish- hehehehehe) Let me know when you wanna go for a fish Groper, I am heading out tomorrow mornign early to Walsh Bay with a mate to chase Trevs then off to a new spot on Saturday with Eddie and hopefully cahse a Jewie or 2... Free all next week and that weekend too if you wanted to catch up for a night fish or pre-dawn adventure
  6. Now thats a Croc! Awesome consolation when there are no Jewies about, fantastic mate
  7. Pretty good mixed bag Saltrix. Shame about the flatties, in the rivers we have been getting them up to 85cm on whole pillies, usually we are getting 3 or 4 a night the only exception was last Saturday when we got nicks. Mowies are great and they look pretty decent size, what did they go BTW??? Good piccies too, well done!
  8. Like Groper I have caught Taylor all of my life, from Beaches and Headlands and also now in Parramatta River I got one 40cm the other night. All of mine have been caught with pilchards and metal slices or on trolled garfish for the bigger models. The only times I have caught them in numbers is early morning (just prior and just after sunrise) or late evening (after or arouns sunset), the best times are Spring and Autumn. Taylor are often hanging out with Salmon and Kingies, so if you find a school of Sambo's the Taylor will not be far away, and neither will the Kingies. They will chew throughout the day if there is plenty of frog mouthed pilchards and whitebait around but normally from my experience they are at the peak of the bite early morning and late afternoon through to around 10pm-ish, after this time you might get individual catches of the bigger Taylor but they will be less frequent. Hope this helps
  9. There is a bombie to the far left hand side of the beach (as you face the water) in the very corner next to the headland. Jewies are caught there in the lee side of the bombie but you need at LEAST 20lb mono and a decent 12' or 13' rod to get them out from the bombie. If you let them run too hard they will smash you on the rocks and ping you quick as ... Got a mate who has a weekender on the beach there and it is renowned (as pointed by Ray R) for huge schools of Taylor and Salmon, but the Jews are there and Flatties around the full moon period. On the beaches fish the high tides on a 1.65m or better tide somewhere around the full or new moon period, using whole pillies on ganged hooks or whole fresh taylor butterflied or sea mullet are great baits for them. When the Taylor and Salmon are around metal slices work OK but you have to work hard to get the fish to strike, dont just spin conventially like a bat outa hell- stop intermittently and give the rod a bit of a twizzle then eratically wind, then stop and let it sink. Good luck, there are plenty of beaches in that area like Umina, Little Box and Killcare all produce good fish at times and I have fished that area personally every few weeks for the last 6 years and its not very often I leave empty handed- there have been times when Trevally, Whiting, Bream and Taylor and Salmon can all be caught in a single session. These fish respond to live beach worms and you can get them from a few tackle shops in the area- I am pretty sure the Ettalong Bait and Tackle shop opposite the club still sell live worms and pippies- stop in and ask where you can get them from they are really helpful and know the area very, very well- the same owner has run that shop since I was knee-high-to-a-grasshopper (friggin long time now - nearly 30 years) Best of luck in the area mate, check with a few locals on where they are biting or read the local rag they have weekly reports in the Central Coast Advocate on Fridays (not sure if it is Fridays or Wednesdays paper to be honest its been a while since I lives there) If you want specific details on the local area PM and and I will try to help out where I can I grew up at Gosford so I know it pretty well for both fishing and also for entertainment and attractions if thats what floats your boat.
  10. Hey Mike, Thanks for calling me and inviting me to go out today, wondering if you managed to get a crew together and got out there among a few fish Was pretty nasty weather at 5am in Gladesville this morning so not certain if you managed to get out I might give you a call next week if you are on for next weekend I am actually free and should be available to come drop a line hopefully weather will be OK. Cheers mate Anthony
  11. Cheers Nathan, a bit hard to swallow when only 2 nights before I was into a hot bite, lol I guess I am lucky I have that patience to keep persisting, but I have come really close to selling ALL the gear and just quitting fishing forever, but then I my mates and my forefathers bring me back to reality and I get spurred on again to just be persistent and keep applying basics to achieve the results I desire. Good luck today @ Narra if you hit up the logoon, you might have better luck than we did chat soon mate
  12. Went to Gladesville last night with Dave, Eddie and GeekFisherman fished effectively from 10:00 until 5am this morning took 90 min to get 8 live yakka at Linley Point wharf finally moved on to Spot A and together we nailed 8 Bream with only 1 a keeper which went just on 26cm and looked worse for wear was missing part of its fins and had a noticeable chomp from on its back, I reckon it was the smaller brother to the one Eddie nailed Thursday night from another part of the system Eddie had a couple of runs on squid strips and live yakka but no hookups my live yakka stayed alive for 5 hours until it came back missing its head and it was a clean bite Dave got a flattie literally on the last cast on unweighted live marine worm but it was undersized yet again ... are you seeing a trend here...??? left Eddie with the last few worms and the last live yakka took Dave home at 5am then got home at 6:20am myself, only to have 45minutes shut eye before the kids dragged me out of bed for brekkie Very slow night but thats why we keep going back for more.
  13. Hi Dave, I saw your post on going to Bay of Islands- I fished in the Bay of Plenty with a guy who charters for Snapper and Kingies. We only went Snapper fishing but we naield 7 fish from 45cm to a big beast of 58cm and 4kg I'll try and find the guys details for you just in case, as the bay of plenty is a 3 hour drive from Bay of Islands. Go out on one of the boats that goes all the way out to The Hole in the Rock its a blast, you will see Dolphins, porpoises, and whales all in that area and its one of the most beautiful places I saw in NZ I spent 17days with my pregnant missus and we travelled all the way from Wellington to Cape Rienga in a campervan, was a great way to see all the sights and experience all the cool stuff NZ is renowned for like skiiing, tumu-tumu toobing, caving, checking the glow worms, going fishing and checking out Rotorua but it stinks to high heaven Am sure you will have a great wedding and a great place for your honeymoon. Highly recommend going on a charter while you are there and get into some big arse Red's and the size if the Trev's is AMAZING! they use 50cm models for bait for Red's using what they call "flat lining" its like baiting with no lead to get to the bottom and its one of the best ways to get into Reef fishing (shame we dont do it over here though could be interesting off palces like Long Reef). Anyways I'll try and get some details on the charter I went on and I'll PM you the details, if you contact this guy he can put you in touch with other operators in Bay of Islands, so he knows a lot and has operated out of Cairns doing Marlin Charters, has operated off Hawaii doing the Pakula Classic and also off WA doing big GT and reef poppering and live baiting. Anyways, have a great wedding and I'll send you what details I got (if the charter guy still operates of course... for all I know he could be back here in AUS running charters here, lol)
  14. Thats Gold Peter, well done on the Pigs and Bream. bad luck about the chaffing but it happens and it friggin hurts like ALL HELL. At least you will remember the day for all the pain you went through to get the 10kg of good fish to take home... roflroflrofl Well done mate on the catch, were you with Ray by any chance???
  15. 3 days before and 3 days after are the best, but I have gotten all my Jewies on the full moon phase, on a 1.65m high tide and prefereably at or just after midnight. *** Bear in mond all of my Jewies have come from the beaches except one which was from Lane Cove River and was caught on a strip of chicken breast with tuna oil. All of mine have some within the first hour before or after a high tide. I have never fished for them on a low tide. Hope this helps, but its a hard slog chasing Jewies and lots of fishless nights in bitterly cold conditions in the middle of winter- but thankfully now the water is warming up they are moving out of the upstream areas and back into the channels and in the harbours and on beaches. I have "the spot" just need the persistence and right live bait I know it is going to happen soon, has to happen soon. Hope to see a few Raiders out and about soon, if you are passing the Gladesville area PM me am always up to meet new people and try a few different areas and techniques. Good luck!
  16. Heading back to Gladesville area after a successful night last night with fish on the chew constantly. Will be fishing from 1am Sunday mornign until just after sun-up, then go home and sink a few tinnies and then have a nanna nap me thinks Chasing Bream, Flatties and Trevs from one of my favourite wharves with fresh yakkas and pillies, might even try for a Jewie with a nice butterflied yakka BRING IT ON!
  17. Went to Parra River last night around Gladesville area with my good mate Eddie. Fished from 11:30 until 5am this morning. Tried hard for yakkas but they just werent on the chew so we got no livies to chase Jewies which was out primary goal. As a consolation I nailed a 44cm Flattie, a 40cm Taylor and a 34cm Bream all on pillie Flattie and Taylor was on the trusy old sibiki rig and the rest on the Ed secret rig, all fish fought really well and the Taylor was a big surprise. caught another 2 flatties and one was just legal, but were returned to the water, and nailed 4 more undersized Bream Eddie got a MONSTER 71cm Flattie and a nice 31cm Bream, plus a swag of undersized Bream. As the tide about to turn at 4am the yakkas come out to play, got 8 or so very quickly on the drop tide, gave 2 to Eddie for livies and kept the rest for bait for tomorrow. I finally got the monkey off my back after a few sessions going home fishless. Great fun on light gear and as usual Eddie is great company and a good mate Sorry lads, no piccies was too busy "reelin em in" ... to be bothered, has to be one of the hottest bites I have experienced in a long time in this area.
  18. Hi Raiders, Am heading out tonight and again on Saturday on Parra River. Anyone else hading in the Gladesville area that would like to dangle a line with me on either of these 2 nights??? Tonight going for the midnight high tide and late Sat night into the wee hours of Sunday morning. Please PM me or call me on 0430360863 if you want to come along, I will be tonight going to a jewie spot and fishing hard from 9pm, then Saturday wil be on the flats searching out some lizards and bream from midnight until sunrise. Cannot wait I have been home with the kids all week while the missus is away in Melbourne, am desperate to wet a line and soak some bait...
  19. Like to be a Noah mate, if it didnt stop and just emptied out your spool then I reckon Noah for sure. A big jewie will run parallel to the gutter you are fishing then give those monster headshakes after it stops to swallow the biat, then will give you another blistering run, only more powerful and shorter than the first. Had a siliar thing happen to me up Nth last year, friggin came close to pulling all my 30lb mono off my Okuma surf reel, I got back about 10m of line then it happened "ping..." Will forever wish I had have not been so stupid and tightened up the drag when she stopped, she had another 3 runs in her before she got off... I was lucky I fought her for 20 minutes before she won her freedom, and she came back for a 2nd burst on another rig but the hook was spat as quickly as she picked up the bait, lol ... But then again thats why we keep going back to try again, and thats fishing. Great report even though you didnt nail her, but a good feed of Taylor is still a great catch on light gear. Well done champ!
  20. Do the singled work better on the 20gm and 30gm slices? I got a couple on mine with trebles and I had the exact same thing happen to me whe it spat the hooks, lol Groper, 10gm or less would be pretty hard to cast and the trebles are quite small so they'd be easier to throw I assume? Irregardless good score on the trev's, they put on a great fight too if you are near any structure. Shame you didnt get any piccies but at least you got out and got into a few fish.
  21. OMFG! What a horse! Now thats a real croc right there, friggin fantastic catch on light gear- but she gave you some curry eh?
  22. WOO-HOO! What a hoot gettin to pat the seal, what a buzz I thought you said it was slow... waddya mean, thats a great feed you got there. Mmmmmm..... Founder......
  23. SWEET! Great catch matey, I remember my first jewie at the tender age of 9, but it surely wasnt 5kg more like 1kg (but that was nearly 30years ago). My first 5kg model was nailed when I was 11yo Fantastic fish and good on ya for taking him out and letting him have a day off school
  24. Mate I had the same thing happen to my mate and I saturday just gone. Fished from 3pm till 6:00pm and only scored 2 x pinkies and a just legal flattie all returned to the H2O Very very quiet day, lol
