  1. Sounds like a great arvo Peter. Avoca is one of the better rock platforms and you certainly did well on the squid Did you keep the Sambo and Reddie??? It can only get better now water temp is slowly rising Going to be a craking summer
  2. Bream Chaser, Anywhere along the bank should be OK, but you should try and locate the areas via google maps where the colour of the water gets darker as these are the spot where the holes are. Also fishing where there are weed beds and they meet sandy bottom will be good for flatties, bream and whiting. Sorry cannot be more specific its been such a long time sonce I was there I would have to check a map myself to get the exact location but either side of the shops on the bank are the rough whereabouts we used to fish with my grandfather and uncles. Good place to try floating for Mullet as there are some big bully's there and with some good old fashioned berley (bread) and use pudding for bait they pull like trains on light gear and are a real sport fish- and they make great Jewie and flattie baits if you use them live or slab em up fresh on the spot.
  3. Spemcer at the bottom of the divvy (the big hill leading in) is the place to fish. Anywhere along the bank or from the wharf in front of the shops My aunty used to live there, the best bait for that area are nippers, prawns and mullet gut. If you fish up river at the weir there are EP's you can get on plastics and also HB lures. Better luck next time, do try Spencer though as my family used to catch heaps on family outings, but then as other member have said it was a long time ago (ike 30years nearly).
  4. Nathan, if Avoca is over crowded you should go round to the Shark Tower or even further round to Nth Avoca, ther eis a bombie off nth Avoca Point and is within casting distance with a good rod and reel and right lead. BUT, the downside is the swell can be pretty rough at Nth end and its quite dangerous- I used to fish off the cliff @ Nth Avoca for Salmon, Taylor and Noahs, but it was closed 10 years ago after those real bad storms and a land slide washed half of the cliff into the water. Its really deep on the inside of the bombie they call it "the cod hole" and its where me and one of my olf mates used to catch flatties up to 85cm, it also holds big arse groper and schools of sweep and smaller snapper. You have picked a great time to head up that way, I will be up at my Mum's in Gosford this weekend too, if I have an hour or so spare I might stop by and see how you are getting on, but I will have the kids and Mrs with me so no fishing gear will be taken this weekend. I guess if all else fails you could head to McMasters Beach or further into Broken Bay like Killcare and Pearl Beach, both these are good for Sambo's and taylor- have caught Jew and Flatties from both aswell in recent years. Good luck and might give you a buzz on the weekend Chat soon
  5. Good lookin Sambo mate Sorry I missed ya was already settled on the sand, I got a little Blue Spot Flattie on mullet gut and nothin else after that. Current was ripping across and I had to use snapper leads to hold bottom and I was down the far end of Palmy next to Barrenjoey. Found a good gutter but the waves were breaking so far our I had to wait for the lull between sets to cast out and half of the beach seemed to have washed away with the storms earlier in the week. (in case I used to be a wax head when I was younger so I know the lingo).... hahahahahaha!!!!!!!! There were heaps of surfers out and some were right on Barrenjoey headland and getting into some good barrels, but where I was lots of close-outs, lol Wished I had my Mal with me I coulda paddled the bait out as opposed to fishin 3/4 way out to the sand bar where it was churning whitewater all arvo Anyways, the rain get the better of me @ 2pm and I decided call it quits, my mate arrived as I was leavin so not the ideal day all round- seems I just couldnt coordinate anything yesterday which was a shame. There's always next time so let me know when you are heading out next- this time I'll bring along all my slices and we can have a good ol chuck, hope they hang around for a bit. Did you see any noahs crusin behind the school??? usually you will see hammers and bronzies just in behind the school after the bust-up and they just hang back and eat the left overs. Friggin missed out BIG TIME didnt I... oh well, my loss
  6. Thats one helluva Jewie Rob. CRACKING EFFORT BUDD! How tasty does that feed look.... mmmmm.... fresh jewie Just add beer, chips and salad
  7. Hi Mike, I am free most weekends and occasinally through the week if you want someone to come along. Got my own gear and can help in getting live bait or provide pillies or whatever. Happy to chuck in some $$ for petrol too. Mate I am keen as, you can call me on 0430 360 863 if you want some company. Cheers Anthony
  8. Mate what stonker inkers! Great feed champ
  9. WOW!!! Thats a gret mixed bag of fishies mate
  10. Off the beach sux if it starts puring, it take SOOOOO long to pack up... thank god for buckets with lid though Beginner I love beach fishing so maybe we should hook up and try a few spots on Nthn Beaches, not too far cause I live in Lane Cove. PM me if you are interested as I have plans for fishing tomorrow just not sure if will out in my mates boat or if I will be LB.
  11. Bad luck James. I have heard of a few Jew captures along Parra and Lane Cove Rivers very recently. Hopefully my time will be Monday to get some nice fish. Good on ya for braving the rain, has the Thames street wharf got cover? UIsually I fish around Cabarita in the rain, there is usually heaps of choppers and yakkas around the wharves. Better luck for tomorrow (hope the rain hold out for you), advice through is to maybe fish a bit heavier on the leader cause Jewies dont care much and use live bait if you can.
  12. Usually a Ray will run then just sit on the bottom and they are real hard to move Its not generally known for Rays to take long runs and not stop but Noahs sure will ... Still call for a Noah but anything is possible, even a Marlin or Tuna... hahahahahahahaha!!!!!! Am off myself on weekend out in Pittwater on a mates tinnie, we try to chase some Kingies (and hopefully my first legal one- plenty of Rats but nothing over that magic 65cm) If all goes to poo I will head up Broken Bay chase a Jew up there and hopefully nail some Taylor and Sambo's Good luck if you head on weekend mate
  13. Best bait: Beach Worms (live), large mullet slabs, and whole pillies on ganged hooks.... Best times: Midnight high tide of 1.65m or more best in Spring/Summer Rising baro pressure Look for suppounding structure (headland, reef formations, bombies, and large deep gutters with steep drop offs). Best Beaches: Northern Beches: Whale Beach, Pal Beach, Dee Why Broken Bay: Pearl Beach, Killcare, Box Head (requires a long walk in or boat to fish the bombie in the area) City Beaches: Maroubra, Bronte, Tamarama Not sure of south beaches, sorry cannot help there Hope this is OK info
  14. I went out on Parra last night and all I got was a few yakkas, no bream and wasnt fishing for Jew and didnt have my big rod out, lol All the yakkas were returned to the wter except one which was used for berley Better luck next time though
  15. Nice Jewie mate, well done. I reckon it was a noah for sure
  16. Thanks matey, I usually fish Gladesville area and Lane Cove. Havent been to KPW for a while, I might see you out and about some time soon. Good luck on the future captures Oh yeah!... and fish from Parra River taste pretty good- I keep all my fish and am not fussed over the dioxin levels, I think it just adds a bit extra flava. Nothing beats Jew or Bream/Whiting from the beaches they taste so much different to the river models. Bring on summer- long nights on the sand, great friends, good beer and a few fishies goes down all too well!
  17. Thats a great catch mate! Gotta be stoked with Bream, Flatties, Jew and the Whiting. Just proves the Parra is on the way back for getting good quality fishies. Can I ask which wharf you were at??? It looks like its around Drummoyne area???
  18. Nth Entrance is the palce to get nice Jew off the Sand. Alternatively you can try around Pearl Beach and surrounding areas. Good luck!
  19. Now thats a great day out! Spectacular piccies mate I love it when Whales are breaching and stuff so close to the boat, I rekon it makes you have a greater appreciation of the world and all the wildlife in it. Good one
  20. No, not Kissing Point. More around Drummoyne area, there are some good spots around there you just gotta find the right palce at the right tide. Gotta admin Gladesville itself is a great place to catch Bream, Whiting and Jew, but you wont likely get any yakkas there as most places dont have eneought light or eneough current.
  21. Hey Guys, Went out to Gladesville area with my good mate Eddie last night in the hope of some Bream off the wharf. Got there 10pm and the wharf was empty for a change. While I was waiting for him to arrive I noticed there was HEAPS of choppers jumping about and at times there were schools of them all gettin spooked by larger predators DB brought the bait and he arrived a few minutes after I did. Started to rig up the Bream rod and proceeded to chuck out my bait jig on 4lb string- first hit WHACK! the little rod buckles over and I am onto a better than average Yakka, he nearly bricked me a few times on the pylons and with such light gear he gave me a run for my money. He came in at a smidgeon under 30cm and he was a HONKER! A I was getting beyond excited I quickly re-rigged the bait jig and sent her out again. This time Eddie was gettin bites on both his Bream Rods, mine was going aswell and so was the bait jig- bait jig came in first on yet another oversized yakka- was looking like if I was going to chuck out a livie I needed 10/0 or bigger- these things were monsters. Kept getting smashed on the biat jig and I have a few yakkas in the bucket so I concentrated on the Bream rod which was getting very tiny nibbles But it was too late, my bait jig got smashed again and I was onto a good tussle- after 10 minutes of very hectic action on a locked drag and a fish giving my over and above in swam a very healthy 40cm Flattie (my first on a biat jig WOO-HOO!!!!!) Keps waiting for the Bream rod to go off but I was losing bait but no hookups. Eddie nailed a fat undersized Breambo on 8lb and he was returned to the water for someone else to catch In meantime I was still having a ball on the bait jig and at one stage I was getting yakkas every cast, but there was one that I will not forget. It started off like the Flattie and the drag was making short, sharp screeches, I thought I was onto a gooden and then I pulled up a 37cm CowanYoung (Mega-Yakka). Eddie managed another 2 Undersized Breambo's, both were fat as... both in successive casts. Still hoping for a Bream on the last of the tide @ 2am I concentrated on the Bream Rod- I got smashed a few more times on the pillies. Eddie is still convinced I am the bad luck fisho but what the hey- I walked away with 3 good fish and a bunch of bait for next time. Left the wharf at 2:30 it was friggin freezing and the wind was up and getting stronger by the minute. Total Score: Me: 1 Flattie, 1 Cowanyoung, 15 yakkas all oversized Eddie: 3 Undersized Bream (up until I left the wharf- I left him there still trying for the elusive Breambo). Had a great night with a good mate and I finaly broke the drought on some fine fightin fish on very light gear. All fish were taking on bait jig, size 4 sibiki with Sardine bait.
  22. I dont think the problem with CG is all LB fisho's on the wharf. I have seen a number of boats getting in close and around that area in the past- so whats to say that at least SOME of the problem are associated to those who fish there in boats aswell... And what about the general public who go there for a picnic and a swim in the baths- I am certain some of them are guilty of littering the place aswell. I dont fish there anymore cause the amount of idiots that go there and drink heaps of booze, smoke dope and make heaps of noise just put me off it. Most times its so crowded people are chucking lines over the top of one another and have little or no repsect for one anothers fishing space. A couple of my friends go there but they only fish there from 4am till sun up after many have gone home- and they are the ones taking home the good Trevally, Kingies and Bream which are there in the area. And I dont think that paying extra for the licensing is going to help either, I have alays had a license since they first same in and I would be happy to pay extra if I knew it was going to clean up the area- but I prefer to see places like Parra and Lane Cove Rivers get cleaned up so there are more spots for fisho's to enjoy- after all- not everyone want to fish @ CG (at least I dont...) In reality there are heaps of places just like Clifton and they dont generate as much attention to the media, if you ask me its all just a ploy to blame degredation of the environment on recreational fishing but we also have to remember that fishing has been around a lot longer than I have, the build up is from constant fishing pressure not only from recreational anglers but the pro's in the past who used to fish locally there aswell. I go by a simple rule: If you make a mess, clean it up! If I see mess than I usually clean it up on my way back to the car. Just adding my $0.02 worth...
  23. Nice day for it JB. Good to hear you got into a few fish YES, The Bream is a little fatty isnt he. roflroflrofl At least you got out there and had a bash on the placcies.
  24. GO Parra! Its time for the Doggie's to lie down and take what is coming for them. BRING ALL YOU GOT DOGGIES- YOU ARE GOING TO NEED IT NEXT WEEKEND!!!!!!!
  25. Perserverance is the key to success, as clearly noted by other members. There are heaps of good beaches and rock hopping spots all along the Northern Beaches. Beach Spots: Dee Why, Nth Narrabeen, Mona Vale, Newport, Avalon, Whale and Palm Beach are all good for various species including Bream, Whiting, Jew, Flatties, Trevally and Dart Baits: Whole pillies on ganged hooks (size 2/0), Slimey Mackerel slabs, yakka slabs, Mullet slabs, Mullet gut, live beach worms, live tube worms and pippies are the best baits for fishing the beaches. Rock hopping Spots: Whale Beach (The Ovens), Bungan Head Reserve, Long Reef Headland. baits: live yakkas, live Slimey Mackerel, live Mullet, Live squid, pillies, mullet slabs, red rock crabs, cunjevoi. Hope this helps
