  1. Probably the ugliest thing Ive seen come out of the water. There's heaps of them that I have seen in the shallows. They look like normal rays but the tails aren't there, they have a weird no good up looking end to them, thats how you know if they're electric or not.
  2. Lower your targets maybe, off the kingfish and onto something else.
  3. Flathead and salmon don't give a shit, they are aggressive feeders on yakka. Everytime I catch a flatty or salmon on yakka, its always half way into their stomach, sometimes tail down and sometimes head down. There aren't very many fish that will clean cut a yakka in half though. You're getting smashed by tailor, they just chop where ever they like, and if they're in schools, they go nuts. A kingfish can often send back a yakka nearly unharmed. Jewfish kind of crush the fish, break its face and what not. Salmon, Ive had salmon spit things out undamaged but other times also crushed and damaged. How are you rigging them up? I caught a tailor probably 15cm in length and me being curious, I put my finger in its mouth. He bit nice and hard and definitely left me some little holes.
  4. Top stuff man. I have a vague idea of the river system you're fishing and I'd say remain persistent and the big one will come. If you've got gear for the beach get out there.
  5. Apparently they are in parramatta river too. I got excited when I heard it but after reading the facts on barramundi and their preferred environment, they will most likely die off in those really cold winter water temps.
  6. Sorry man, I was meant to point that at the other guy suggesting the hunters hill side. I heard its the better side to fish but I can't see a way down.
  7. I can't see much of your yak but that looks like an awesome setup. I'm keen to get out and have a flick around the cooks, looks like an awesome little river to flick lures and do some CNR fishing. Top stuff man. No need to answer if you don't want but did you catch him in a deeper hole in the river or did you sound him.
  8. How do you get down there? I went there some weeks ago and there is about 5 layers of fence. I parked in that dead end road and walked to the left to that rowing shed thing and still couldnt see a way down...
  9. That was a good read. Cant understand why the ropes are so long. Lazy people too lazy to adjust to the depth. Water temps affect all species of fish. Some prefer warmer temps while others seek deeper cooler water.
  10. Ive got a fair few from around Akuna bay, land based, on pilchards. I think if you burly up just about anywhere, they should follow you.
  11. Where do you guys catch the slimies. For the life in me I cant catch them let alone ever seen anyone catch one. I was out at balmoral land based few days ago. Plenty of yakka and nothing else. Thats the king of kings and unfortunately looks like im gonna miss out this season. So sick of land based fishing. Why dont these fish swim abit closer!
  12. I mark the carbontex with a pencil. Cut the internal of the circle with sharp scissors and in a click notion. When you cut the carbontex you can feel the scissors cut each fibre weave. Then when I'm done I use the metal washer from the reel hold them against each other and tidy up the edges. Then I use a hole puncher to punch out the how in the middle. It's big enough not to make contact with the shaft. I tried a drill first and had the dust everywhere. Seems much cleaner with the hole puncher. You can always cut to the outter diameter of the marked circle. This would give you more room for error and help you achieve a near perfect circle when using the metal washer for sizing and trimming.
  13. I went to a few shops local and afar, ended up with two of those Plano containers for $9.99 each. One shop had them for $8 but nothing in stock and it wasn't worth the drive to the store to save $2. They look tough and seal proof but the plastic seems extremely rigid and almost glass like which tells me any hard pointed object which hits it with some force could crack it. Really practical too, with their size I can fit two into my side pouch comfortably.
  14. I just fitted some carbontex into a few of my reels. On my little daiwa, if I put the drag up tight(lets assume the line holds), I think the reel will break. Smoothness is awesome but I was worried I was going to lose some freeplay as the carbontex is noticably thicker than the normal drag washers. I put the carbontex washer into my penn reel. The drag power went up considerably more, it feels like it can almost lock up. I think they're a good thing. Make sure you grease them up though, I found them noisy when not greased and also didn't feel as smooth. Now trying to determine whether its worth cutting and fitting them into my 4000 sustain fg.
  15. Here here. Just googled it, weirdest looking shark.
  16. My response to that picture: What the **** is that? That looks like one no good up port jackson. Its a part of the heterodontiformes. A shark which has that body and fin structure/count. But what kind, no idea. I looked on google, something similar came up as a horn shark. It also looks a little fat around the body. Might be loaded with eggs.
  17. Don't spin those. We've had some success with them. As other said, sinker on the bottom, bait on the lower hook and leave the popper unbaited. If there are fish about, you'll get something.
  18. I went out yesterday, land based, for a fish. Thanks to the rain the past few days, the mosquitoes were out in ****** SWARMS. No amount of mosquito repellent did anything. Ive got about 10 bites on each hand, 7 on my right elbow, 4 on my left, 5 on my back, 7 on my ass, 4 on my right thigh, 3 on each ankle, 5 on my face. I was wearing pants and a shirt and a hoodie. They were keen, persistent little ****ers. My cousin who was with me had about 10 on the back of his head and a mix everywhere else.
  19. I can't see any pictures but at balmoral you're gonna get plagues of either shovel nose, port jackson, banjo shark. Is there a photo we can't see?
  20. Top stuff man. I drove all the way down there last week with my dad. I have no idea how that channel is fished. About 10 years ago, we did fine there, we did awesome. Until they done all that fancy stuff with the mouth of the system, the flow of water is insane and the runout made it near impossible to fish due to the amount of weed and junk being washed down. I was fishing on the Sydney side of the bridge though, I didn't cross to the other side. All I saw get pulled out there was 2 under sized bream. I would have loved to get even 1 flatty.
  21. I've caught a flathead on a 3/8 jig head size 1 hook with a squidgy fish. I think it was a fluke. Your better option is spinning metals.
  22. That container looks awesome. I called up numerous local shops, no ones got anything. *** is gonna try order one in for me.
  23. Hey all, I'm after this container: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BERKLEY-GULP-ALIVE-BAIT-MANAGEMENT-8-CONTRAINER-NEW-/380549203084?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item589a80048c Problem is I can't find anyone online in Australia who has it in stock. Ive seen the ones which have the 4 small 2 big compartments but I use mainly smaller plastics so the this one is the one I'm after. I checked the berkley site and they're cheap as chips but don't send to Australia. I also want to grab a bottle of the Gulp recharge. Last shop I checked wanted $30 for the bottle while on the Berkley website its 4.99 a bottle! Anybody able to point me to any shops? Should I just go with one of the 29.95 tubs from big w that has some shitty plastics I wont use but has the sealed container + the juice?
  24. Over the past 2 years at work, Ive finally accumulated time off. Started Jan first and I return next Tuesday. Of this time I spent about 7 - 10 days fishing, thanks to either high wind, searing heat or this rain. I am quite pissed off. This weekend I would have loved to fish some but doesn't look good. Of course the weather forecast for next week is sunny with 28 - 30c days.
