  3. welcome mate, that 'yak looks great for the price!
  4. they look like EPIC fish! i was gonna head up to Norah Head off the rocks for pigs the weekend gone, but 5m swells stopped that! hopefully this weekend...
  5. nice map, gonna be trying some LB angling up there soon... are you LB or boat? need to know so we can tell you where to fish - but you'll bet a better response if you post up in the Fishing Chat main forum
  6. LOL to steal a fishing phrase: "She's a keeper!"
  7. might wanna check if that's legal? it is an offence in Victoria: http://www.austlii.edu.au/au/legis/vic/consol_act/wa197593/s76.html (but i'm guessing you might just be kidding, right )
  8. maybe around pittwater, the southern end?
  9. are its fins dissolverd off or something?
  10. whoops, just re-read your post! as you can see, I totally agree with this point
  11. i filleted a pair of flatties on sunday, and didnt rinse them afterwards, just blotted off the little bit of blood with a paper towel. i dont think you need to rinse them at all if you are not freezing them???
  12. was gunna say a shimano, but then i saw the fish- big mouthed alright!
  13. yeah, there's heaps of space all around the bridges - but mostly rail bridge north west side, but been too much ribbon weed lately,
  14. Yeah mate, lost a biggun at woywoy bridge chasing bream land based, we're sure it was a jewie, was a half pillie... Keep at it, land a tailor on your lure, then send it out on a big rod and wait :-)
  15. Yep, for nsw it's a requirement; http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/regulations/sw/methods And doesn't say "if unattended" it says "must have a tag" so if you were looking to be 100% compliant - your trap would always be tagged...
  16. just wondering the way your put the crab on the hook? does it have to stay alive?
  17. not really sure what you are askign here? do you mean - "can i use 30kg line?" or "can i use two strands of 15kg line at once?"
  18. welcome to FR - this topic has been covered extensivly for the last week!!! all the answers are here: http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showforum=7
  19. Heading down to Gerroa for a couple of weeks and planning to fish Black Head for drummer, blackfish and pelagics... any advice on what swell & winds to avoid would be most welcome, or best spots to fish from! the forecast swells look quite variable, with southerly, easterly adn northerly swells all foecast!!! http://swell.willyweather.com.au/nsw/illawarra/black-head.html I have PFD and crampons and will only fish with my wife as observer (i hope she has a fish too, but she said she'd come down to watch me fish) also - if anyone else is going to be fishing down there - we could team up perhaps??
  20. there are a few *rules* with braid, and one is that you must not tie it to the hook... we talked about it a bit here: http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=64140
  21. nice tom how you want to cook it? lightly dusted & shallow pan fried works, or steamed with ginger and shallots... fillet just like most fish, from centreline out - skin is like flatty skin, so a decent filleting knife will separate it from the flesh... cut the gut section out after filleting a chef showed me how to "peel" the skin off, but i found a filleting knife will do the job...
  22. it is much easier in a boat, but by using light grade braided line, like 6lb or lighter, and a nice 7ft+ graphite rod - you can usually get to where the fish are holding - particualry in places like Roseville...
  23. i dropped a monster last night on 1 month old skirt steak pre-marinated in tuna oil... it holds the hook well and the little tackers can have a pick whilst the big one zones in for the steal! i dont think steak has been mentioned in this thread yet? one fishes - how do you put the crab on the hook?
  24. lol - that is exactly where I was fishing - left at 1030! it shut down around 10pm as the tide was well on the way out... um, i think 'upstream' is towards the headwater isnt it? and 'downstream' is towards the ocean right? if so - the boat ramp is closer to the ocean...
