  1. Awesome post mate, I would have loved to have been out fishing tonight.. the first jew I landed went 65cm a couple of years back on 15lb braid.. that same night and in the same 5 minutes my mate hooked a 68cm model on a 500 size reel on a 2-4kilo 6ft jarvis walker rod from the 90's with 6lb braid.. was an epic battle and I got soaked but we got the fish. been a while since ive caught one now though
  2. 45 mins on a ray and then footy training .. what a legend!
  3. hehe its too cold! but good effort for getting out there mate! I was considering getting out for a fish tonight but its freezing! its always a bit disappointing when the humble pilly doesn't raise a single fish from the depths.. even though you didnt catch it was a worthwhile post Reubs
  4. im gonna say you'd be better off camping at patonga and fishing around there... but thats what I would do... I dont know marramarra at all so cant comment on that. Hope the trip is successful nonetheless! reubs
  5. I find the water to be really shallow there :/ i've never been able to catch anything of size and it gets worked pretty had like the rest of sydney
  6. Nice work fellas! Gutted that I can't get out there this weekend
  7. My boat is out too and I just started Uni through an online course...SO MUCH RAGE!! Busted boat and less time to have fun Hopefully the social produces for those heading to it Reubs
  8. Boat motor is dead so looks like I'm out... ... not game enough to come along on the 11ft tinny with a 5 hp ...
  9. Gday Raiders, Got out for a flick last week on the boat but on the way out of tunks park the alarm started to sound on the boat... killed the motor as we hadnt got far and anchored up a bit to let it cool off and have a bit of a fish to see if it was just a intermittent issue.. caught a couple of pinkies and not much else.. got a few happy snaps with the small fish and then we were on our way again only to make it to the main channel and watch a steady flow of steam coming from the rear of the motor.. Killed the motor and pulled off the cover and the head on the port side is SUPER HOT.. so set out a few lines and waited for passing boats..saw the raptor charter boat go past but didnt want to ruin a charter by asking for a tow back to the ramp.. the next bloke to come around the spit was very helpful though and towed me back to the ramp.. So now im looking for a motor.. if anyone would like to donate a 70 to 150HP motor to throw on the back of my boat I would be most appreciative.. or if you have something that you wouldnt mind getting rid of real cheap.. the current motor is a 1974 Evinrude 115493B (115hp) .. if anyone has had experience with these or can give me a hand that would be awesome.. If it was a car i'd call it for the head gasket but I dont know where the water runs though the powerheads or if theres an easy way to check what the actual problem is.. Anywho hopefully I'll get a land based session in over the weekend and have something exciting to report.. Until then, tight lines! Reubs
  10. i HATE parasites! what beach were you lobbing baits from if you dont mind my asking? reubs
  11. I found a good amount of weed on the rocks down Wollongong way however it's a bit of a hike to get down there..
  12. Trev always manages to find fish in the 40's! Haha good work fellas
  13. This is the best post I've read all day
  14. exact same problem here.. you stare at the waves looking for that gutter that everyone talks about, only to see something similar for one wave and then never appear again! the northern beaches really are frustrating sometimes..
  15. I went on a trip to malaysia last year and ended up spending $650 aussie on fishing gear :/ but amongst all that I bought a packet of 1.5inch paddletail grubs and some tiny jigheads... I cast it out while blackfishing yesterday and on the slow roll retrieve a hungry little 10cm flathead found it and nailed it.. twas no match for 8lb gear but plastics do work
  16. As always Trevor a solid effort on the blackies! We had some success down in the gong yesterday finally.. Reubs
  17. Hi Peter, I've heard that hairies are a bit of a random catch in the harbour and they can just turn up but don't tend to hang around in particular spots like hey do in the hawkesbury.. To be fair that's just what I've heard but others on here may know better Reubs
  18. Evening Raiders, Had an unsuccessful flick at pyrmont last night with a soft plastic around 11:30pm after a dinner near star city.. however as the day broke this morning I dragged myself out of bed and headed down south to pick up a mate and head out to try to chase some blackfish.. For those of you who had a read of my post the other night..as it turns out I went to the right spot and hit the weed motherload jackpot! cabbage and string weed was in abundance and as it goes we took a couple of handfuls of each for fishing today and possibly a sneaky session during the week.. Got to the general location of the fishing spot and pulled out the fishing gear.. While we were pulling stuff out of the car in preparation for a small trek to the spot we wanted to go to I decided to have a stickybeak in the water basically just behind the car and to my surprise I saw a nice sized luderick chilling with his mate mr surgeon... so instead of picking up all the gear we put down the rear tail gate on the rangie and had a seat and started to fish! For the next 7 hours as we had nothing else to do today we applied what had been taught to us by a fellow raider last year and intently watched our floats for the whole day! To set a bit of a background.. I have been a bit reluctant to get into the blackfishing because it was introduced to me while I was just getting into soft plastics... my fishing mate has been mad keen to hit the blackfish and has been collecting bits and pieces of info from here and there and looking for weed at any given opportunity only to have me pull out some bait and plastics or take the boat out and move around a heap.. But today we agreed that we would hit the blackies so loaded with my 12 foot beach rod and my mate with his soft 10 ft blackfish rod we rigged up the floats, split shots and sneck hooks and got some weed into the water.. Within minutes we were getting inquiries and before I knew it I had the first blackfish of the day on dry ground and then into the esky.. it went 32 cm so not a bad fish to start the day.. not long after I had another down and upon striking was suprised at the run that I got out of the fish...it took off about 10 metres to the left and then switched and went 10 metres to the right... the beach rod was massive overkill but the only long rod I have.. after a short fight I had a surgeon fish in the esky and my mate had 3 hooks pull on him.. The bites kept coming and by about 4pm we had about 10 keepers and 3 throwbacks... we picked up our gear and headed to the spot we'd planned to go to only to find about 85 other people already there.. after about 3 minutes someone cast over my line and caught me and there didnt seem to be much going on so we went back to our spot until about 6pm for only one more fish. All in all it was a great day out with plenty of action to keep us entertained and a perfect day weatherwise to be outside. The final tally was 6 fish to me and 3 to my mate.. we both felt that was a bit unfair that I outfished him today but thats fishing! tight lines Reubn
  19. Keep at it with the plastics mate if the fish are there and they are on the bite you'll be right.. My go to soft plastic was the small squidgy wriggler pro in bloodworm.. But definitely get some s factor on there as it does help.. A super slow roll along the bottom if there's no snags should find you something don't give up if you happen to see a school of bait busting up cast just next to it and just let the line sink and whatever it is will find you Reubs
  20. Cheers Ali-G I should have had a look! P.S. that croc looks like a freakin wobbegong!
  21. Went out this evening to find some weed and have a flick... Couldn't catch anything as I was pressed for time but more disappointingly there was no weeeeeeeed to be found! Went to the muddy channel near rose bay golf club then went to the rocks at maroubra and then to la perouse and there was hardly anything anywhere there were a couple of pools with about 2-3cm of growth on the weed but it definitely needed to mature so was left to do so... Can anyone help a brother out? A couple of blokes were fishing off the headland just to the west of bare island and didn't catch anything. Keen to catch some blackfish on Saturday but my best bet may be at the fish market :| Reubs
  22. There was one report of one salmon caught on a waxwing at narrabeen and a couple of weeks back a mate sent me a pic of a bruiser of a sambo he caught in broken bay so there should be some around surely? I've not been able to tempt any though
  23. I'm still trying to work out the gutters at the beach thing.. They don't seem to be easy to spot on the northern beaches.. My mum seems to find them ok with her alloys around the place but that's about as good as it gets.. I was at narrabeen on Friday night and I couldn't tell where any gutters were :/
  24. Ah you may have left just before we got there...we were down a bit at the pines and then when I got over catching nothing we moved to the surf club but there was still 2 blokes at the entrance...keen to tangle with a shark though!
