  1. I've got a short length of rope about 2 mt, that's permanently attached to the bow of my boat, at the end of that rope it's spliced onto a stainless steel snap shackle. This reaches into my cockpit. When I deploy my sea anchor it's just a matter of clipping on the shackle and chucking it over. When I need to move I just motor forward till the sea anchor is along side me and I just bend over and pick it up. You need to make sure it's not to long cause you might run it over with your prop. It takes a bit of effort bringing it in when your moving forward and I've got huge sea anchor, but to make it easier for you champ I was thinking you could attach a loop to the end of the anchor then you just gaff it thru that loop which would make it heaps easier. I never have to go to the bow with this system, even when I anchor it's just a matter of throwing the anchor of the side in the cockpit and clipping the shackle onto a overhand loop that's on the rope. Does that make sense????
  2. Don't know about salmon... But I do know there are bonnies there.
  3. Found a heap of rats off longy yesterday and got smoked by a big hood just off quarantine on a live bonnie on the down rigger.
  4. Hahahahaha funny post this one!!!! More marine parks means less places for us to fish! If it keeps going on like this fishing will be banned!
  5. Ok... I've put my strip on a bracket that sits on the frame of my canopy. It's good to have the light above you so it lights up the whole boat so you can even see you rod tips in the dark!!! The light also shines into the water, which also brings squid and yakkas around.
  6. I have a small runabout without a cabin so I don't have the option of installing an overhead light, so instead I was thinkin running some Marine grade LED strip lighting Hey champ, Do you have a canopy?
  7. Parking is all metered around the spit. How about launching from clontarf? It's close to all the bait grounds and that's where heaps of the hard core yakkers launch in the wee hours of the morning, and they are not going fishing, they do it for exercise???? Glad that MOST of them have some sort of light on them but some don't! Just a matter of time before something really serious happens to them. Especially on those new moon mornings. Hope I'm wrong.
  8. Pulpit point fishes well on a run out tide for Jews out wide and bream right in close. It's my fav spot land based around there. Fish off the eastern point, squid is the gun bait and you can also catch some yakkas off the board walk in front of the houses.
  9. I think tonight will be the go! Great looking gutters there today. Heaps of berley on the sand next to the pipe. I think the plan is get rid of the whale by this arvo and come back in the morning for clean up.
  10. Don't know about the academy ( you probably could) but you can definitely park on the "spit" of middle creek. Heading north passing the academy on the right, over mid creek, turn right.
  11. Only way to definitely find out what it was is to catch it.... I'll have to put my money on salmon thou. Lot more of them around these days than there were years ago.
  12. Narrabeen is definitely closer than it is to stanwell. Another beach thats good for bream, flathead, tailor, salmon and Jews is dee why/ long reef smack bang in the middle there's a red pole and there always seems to be a big gutter just near it. I used to go to Clifton and get yakkas and squid then head off there. Or if I didn't have the time I'll fish gang Pillys, catch some tailor/salmon or even bream and slab them up and lob it out. Good luck.
  13. [quote name='Nibbles' timestamp='1343710598' post='452293' Anyone know how to quickly and humanely kill an octopus? Seem heaps harder to deal with than a squid. Yeah mate, the best way to kill an occy is to basically turn his head inside out.
  14. Como bridge on the south west side, anchor over the shallows and cast a Jew bait into the channel and your bream baits on the drop off. Rising tide is the go. Captain cook bridge... Anchor up so your transom is facing the deepest pylon about 30 Mtrs away and cast your baits to it. Good bream, flathead and Jew. Hope this helps... Don't give up champ, keep at it you'll get it!
  15. Top haul their champ! Those squid look so yum, do you eat the bonnies? and if you do, how do you cook them?
  16. other good brand is scotty which is an aussie brand also a good D/R. have a look at the site sponsors as a first option but online shopping is hard to beat sometimes Scotty is a Canadian brand not Aussie. As far as which is best your either a Scotty or Cannon man. They are both good just like fords and holdens. 7lb weights are more than enough for the harbour.
  17. Best report ever, you should be a writer! I've got 3 kids and I'll be taking the eldest who's 5 this summer for sure in my boat. Wanted to take her out for a hairy sesh the other night but the better half didn't think it was such a good idea???

    Hairy sesh

All you need to do is sound out some bait, anchor up over them and the hairies will come. They're right thru the Cowan system. What ever you do absolutely no sinkers!!! Don't need light sticks either. The key is find the BAIT.
  19. Launched from Akuna yesterday arvo and sounded out some bait in a inlet just inside smiths creek. All fish were caught on dead ganged yakkas. Was back at home by 9. Top short hectic sesh with my handlines going nuts. Biggest went 1.5m.
  20. Going to have a crack at them on Friday. Hope I do as half as well as you have champ, you've really brained them!!!
  21. Yeah, the 1000 fathom line is going off at the mo!!!
