  1. I have tried to get one on fly so many times it isn't funny (up near the weir). Burley dosen't work and neither do bread fly's. The thing with the big bullies is that they are feeding on very very small bits and pieces (not sure what they are exactly) and are very hard to immitate. Depending on where your fishing will vary on what they are eating, but in Lane Cove in particular this is what there feeding on. If you do get one stick it out as a live bait ..... big sharks around there.
  2. alot of the LBG guys use (or did use) just legal bream for kings. Used to work very well
  3. The narrow spool is more for jigging and the 50 would get greater casting distance but i can still get a very good distance off mine with my t curve so with a longer rock rod you will have no problems
  4. Saltist ..... a great reel for the price. Strong gearing, drag and and all round tough reel. I am about to start upgrading mine (drag, handle, spool annodizing, engarving and maybe a few other bits and peices). For fishing for Groper, Kings and salmon off the rocks they would be my first choice. And the narrow spool does make for easyer line lay.
  5. ok thanks guys all abit to far for me to go
  6. Where in Sydney can i catch carp ? i have been trying in Lane Cove for a while now for no luck. i was thinking maybe parrammater dam (or whatever its called) is this any good ? and what other species can i find in there ? are they easy to get there and will they take a fly ?anywhere else worth a shot ? Cheers, Fletcher
  7. Correct. having a knot that is tied directly to the jig head will allow you to put alot more action in the lure than a loop knot will. this is especially important when fishing stickbaits (just my opinion but it makes sence to have direct contact to the lure) Uni Knot is what i use but whatever knot you use normally will do fine
  8. Was ment to go for a fish at around 12 today but stupid me forgot to check the tides ..... hardly any water went over to Iron Cove and bloody hell shallow there to (never fish there before so i didn't know). seeming i work right near Iron Cove Bridge (Drummoyne side not City side) i am going to start and get there early and fish before work. as i said i have never fished there before so today when i went down there the water was a fair way away from the land and i would have had no chance at trying to land a decent bream or flattie. First up does the drummoyne side not fish as well as the city side (only what i have heard) and are flatties and bream my main targets or will there be jews, tailor, whitting etc around aswell ? i will also assume its not really that safe to eat anything from there ? Cheers, Fletcher
  9. was pumping yabbied at about 4:00 this arvo. Yeomans has them buy there thousands at the moment (i literally put my had in the mud and pulled one out ) worth having a flick with the SP at low tide aswell. pulled 3 flatties in half an hour. the end of Smiths Creek had a fair few last week aswell but not sure how there going at the moment. ive always found that Jerusulam is very over rated when it comes to pumping yabbies but the fishing in there is great
  10. ye good things on lures. ive half worked them out on lures. caught them on SP, poppers, deepdivers, crystal alives (not sure what catagorie they come under) and i will hopefully get one on fly ion the next couplde of weeks. so much fun on lures especially poppers/surface lures, amazing surface strikes.
  11. I recently bought a Saltist 30TH with 50 lb jigman braid and a t curve 400. with 2 weeks of fishing starting tomorrow (woohoo!) i want to break in the rod on some king fish. seeming i dont have a downrigger ill be trolling deep divers, a secret rig (surface), trolling sluggo's and i think thats about it. i will be trolling mainly around west head and seeming i have never done this before (trolling for kings around headlands) i was wondering how close i have to be to the wash ? i am abit concerned about going right in. is there anywhere else around that is good for kings in the broken bay/ pittwater/ hawkesbury area ? with 2 weeks of fishing and kings bieing my main target i have very high hopes of getting one. i also have no fresh bait. where are the bait grounds at broken bay ? or is it just a case of whilst trolling droping a bait jig down to schools of fish ? i have no GPS so can't mark any places. most of my fishing will be done at west head as it is very easy to fish for a bit when there weather is yuck. thanks for the help in advance, Fletcher

  14. so is it better to get a low geared reel for jigging and fighting fish ?
  15. should still be alot of the wreck under water so it SHOULD hold kings still worth fishing there
  16. ye i was going to fish 80 lb at first but i like to go on the lighter side with most of my gear i was going to get the 200 and 30 at first but atleast ill be in with a chance with the big kings now atleast i now know that it isn't to heavy thanks guys now to get some kings !! cheers, Fletcher
  17. i recently perchased a t curve 400 and a saltist 30 TH i am going to run 50 lb braid on it for kings and jews (also bottom bashing and trolling etc) is this to heavy for these species ? i was origonally going to go 30 lb but atleast want a chance if the big 15kg + king comes along also about how much braid will i be able to fit on the 30 ?
  18. ive been looking for a couple of sounders recently and had a look at the furunos any idea on the price of the ones that can sound schools of fish, reefs etc ? (not sure if all can do that or not havn't bought a sounder in a very long time )
  19. quite a good year for me this year first jew, first EP, first (legal) snapper, biggest flattie (sand flathead 4.750 kg, didn't even know they got that big) biggest dollie biggest striped tuna biggest bream i think thats about it so a good year with PB's and firsts when i think about it Cheers, Fletcher
  20. maybe i shouldn't belive everything i read what rod did you put yours on ? still trying to figure out what im going to match it up with (im tinking either a t curve or jigwrex at the moment) sorry for hijacking the post
  21. im in the exact same possition as you i decided on the TH ..... really it doesn't matter but jigging apparently a lower gear ratio is better (apparently) as you dont loose your rytheme as easerly only reason i went TH is cause i figure i may aswell have the high speed than not have it i think it all comes down to what you like the most Cheers, Fletcher
  22. So not as uncommon as i first thought they where around here
  23. I caught my first EP on Friday night in cowan creek now i always thought these where fresh and bracish water fish or do they come down to pure salt often ? cheers, Fletcher
  24. thank you very much for the help guys
  25. well i went down again today for nothing (although i did see some nice bream and what looked very much like an EP) casting spinnerbaits and surface lures ill try some tassie devils as igot a few lieing around that don't get much use Cheers, Fletcher
