  1. Hey Mate

    nice flatties HeHe

these days lure choice is dependent on were the structure is (horizontal or vertical) and what kind it is (weed, oysters, rocks ect)

if i was going out to catch a feed of flatties plastics would definitly be tied on

if bream over a shallow reef then a floating HB would be the go

in serious snaggy country them plastics get a run because of my hip pocket :074:

  2. Great fish there buddy and nice outfits you caught them on is

that the new daiwa luvias and what rod is that matched with?

It looks like a great combo and you had a good time on the

    water well done

    Cheers

    Rizzo :biggrin2:

yep new daiwa luvias 2004 (jap only model, shallow finesse spool, only 185 grams) it is matched to a 6'10" Berkley Pro Tactic IMO an excellent combo for $600, so light and sensitive but with guts for the bigger fish

    cheers

  3. Hi Raiders,

Just got back from a week at crescent head and the fishing was at times AWESOME!!

Many fish were caught including a 60cm long tom on a popper, silver trevally, rock cod and bream on a 75mm lure . However the main targets were big greenbacks and bream heres how it went on the hot sessions

    Session 1 Bad Bonito

Hit the ledge early to try out my new 6kg combo and punched out a XRAP into the stiff breeze. It wasn't long before the bonito's showed up and smashed every lure in the water, there were not big only 40 ish but for there size few fish go as hard and fast :biggrin2: got sore arms after this session :074:

    Session2 Bruiser Bream

Found a shallow reef at the river mouth and as the tide receded with all the wave action it certainly looked as it should hold some early spawners. First accurate cast with the camion and CLUNK the Luvias is singing :074: after a very tough fast fight I beach the first bream of around 33cm

Very next cast the lure is hammered again and this time a bigger bream takes me a tour of his local reef before i beach him bigger at 35cm :yahoo:

In the next thirty minutes before the tide pushes them out i hook and fight bream after bream all between 32-37cm in the hottest bite i have experienced, i don't land them all but manage five, four of which are released to propagate the species :074:

    Session 3 Tough Tailor

Big greenbacks were the main target and with one day left of my holiday i had not evey seen a pesky chopper  down to ledge for an arvo session I chose a different location and could not beleive my eyes when just off the ledge a school of medium size tailor just milled around like mullet :yahoo:

On went a wildeye shad and a slow twitch retreive brought instant hookups and screaming drags as they tried to take me under the ledge, after landing the first two 44 and 47cm i was happy for the feed and stoked with these mid sized tailor. I switched to the XRAP and then lost it after a serious hit and run from an angry tailor. These tailor were now getting the better of me and i lost 3 mores lures without landing one more fish untill the school moved off, as they say thats fishing

Here are the best pics from a great fishing spot

  4. hey mate

What do you search into ebay.

    Kirks

usually i go to ebay stores and just type in the name of the lure i am looking for

although different markets have different lures and names for lures so sometimes it is best to just put in a brand like lucky craft, bassday ect. and look from there.

also don't be frightened to buy second hand lures as most are in as new condition

    cheers

  5. Hi Raiders,

Have been getting right into ebay to source some hard to get (in aust) high quality Japanese lures. this ebay thing is getting adictive! one look at a fancy lure and i have to have it :biggrin2:

Good news is most can be delivered for less than $20 and the Japanese provide EXCELLENT service.

  6. Wow monster Bream there Greg well done on finding such a horse

lovely looking fish as well to boot

    sexy lips :074::074:

    cheers

    Kael

p.s i have been giving the vibs a go lately and getting lots of hit but very few hook ups

do you keep a tight line on the drop or give them some slack?

  7. Very nice Bream there :thumbup:

Don't give up on the pencils when there is a bit of wind around although it stuffs around the walking action you can more easily get it to pop out of the water like a prawn

had an awesome session yesterday and i am now convinced that surface lures can sometimes be more effective than anything bar a peeled prawn

the killer lure was the tiemco pencil in clear , first cast i had three very big bream jostle each other out of the way to smack it all in full view :biggrin2:

all up seven good bream caught one fellow was a horse well over a kilo that put on a real show in the shallow water

    keep up the good work

    cheers

  8. I have found that lately the NW pencil has been picking up a lot more fish than the poppers.

also i use a mono leader because it floats better than a flouro

if the species are shy a tiemco pencil or towadi will pick up those lookers

again i fish mainly sandflats interspersed with weed beds much less than a metre deep

however i have picked up bream in 2m of water on a surface lure

keep up the good surface work

    Cheers

    Kael

  9. Well done mate

choppers are always happy to have a go at anything moving!

definitely mix up your retreives sometimes bream will hit it when moving other times when stationary

IMO more hits are converted into hookups when the lure is moving.

try pencils and well such as tiemco trick trout and the lucky craft NW pencil as these will sometimes turn the bream on when poppers won't

have fun, i used to think the bream were not as 'surface friendly' as Bass, but that theory has been hit for six of late

    cheers

    Kael
