I did mate! My local store had an old box of Nitlon Topwater Float. My Alvey sidecast also has some Sunline Fine Float, but it tends to sink after an hour or two.

    Cheers,

    Wellzy

That nitlon is very hard to buy now. I don't think they make it any more. If you see it grab as many as you can afford.

Well done on the catch by the way.

  2. We used to catch blackfish in the run to the see but now the channel has changed direction and most of the blackfish are caught from the bridge and the other side.

As you said mostly drift for flathead they do get bream at night.

  3. Yes I understand there is a possession limit as well.

But the fisheries inspector said there was no boat limit inside the lake.

So 5 people could each catch their bag limits and still be under their possession limit as well.

    He is correct.

There is a bag limit of 10 per person and a possession limit of 20. The possession limit applies to the boat limit also!

    cheers scratchie!!!

Thanks Jeff. So your saying there is a boat limit and the fisheries guy was wrong. Mm. I might send them an email. I've looked on the web but it's confusing.

  5. Over the Easter weekend I have been catching crabs with a hand line in Brisbane waters

i know the bag limit for blue swimmers is 10 per person per day and 5 mud crabs.

I spoke to a fisherman at the boat ramp who said he'd bagged out with 20 blue swimmers but there was 3 people in the boat I said you could have got 10 more. He said there is a boat limit of 20.

So yesterday I was inspected by fisheries (all good ) and I ask him about the boat limit he said there was no boat limit inside the lake. So if there was 5 people on the boat you could possibly total 50 blue swimmers and 25 mud crabs plus 20 whiting.

Can somebody clear this up as I've been telling all my mates to be careful how many they have in their boats.

    Thanks Steve.

Well done Steve. Good to hear the blackfish make great bait for muddies. I would make that trade any day at $35 a kilo.

Chilli mud crab  my fav. You'd pay big money in a restaurant  thanks Andrew. IMG_4400.JPG

Nice catch. How do you get the crab? Just tie the meat to your line and drop  over the side and they grab on?

Pretty much it. We do have a small running sinker as well. But yeah just drop it over the side of your boat. When the hand line starts to move slowly wind it in and be ready with a net. Sometimes they let go of the bait so you have to lean over the side and get as deep as possible with the net.

Hey loose lips, you've had some fun haven't you.

See you on the weekend - hope to catch a few blackfish with you and make sure you've been a good boy !!

Now come on Brucey.  I didn't say where I caught them I've been good. See ya on the weekend I'll leave weed in letterbox.

  9. Headed out to Brisbane waters with Marvin yesterday (Wednesday) looking for some crabs for Easter.

Not being an expert at catching them but we thought we'd give it a go as we have been told there is a few around.

Armed with hand lines mullet, blackfish and chicken necks.

The first catch was a nice blue swimmer followed by 4 more. Put them in the esky and was happy. Made a move and felt some heavy weight on the next one. Got excited when I seen the big orange nippers Marv netted it for me but shook it out in the small tinny.

Well it was running around with its big nippers and I thought no way was I going to try to pick it up. Anyway we got him in the esky and had a bit of s laugh.

Caught another 3 was a good day

So today I went blackfishing for some more crab bait  the water was very clear and you could see the fish  great fun just kept a few IMG_4391.JPGIMG_4392.JPG

  10. Well done mate. They are a lot of fun to catch. They always put up a good fight as you would know with that 41cm.

It can be very easy and comfortable fishing in calm waters. I had some fresh crumbed fillets last night and they tasted great.

    Cheers Steve.

    Stapo,

    Great read. (well you know).

I dodged a bullet and gave up the bungers almost 5 years ago as I hit a Milestone(50).

Stories like yours absolutely keep me off the coffin nails! Still think there is alot of fishing to be done.

    Speedy Recovery to you!

    Dave

    Thanks again to everyone

Thanks for sharing that. So many of us raiders have heart problems it seems. St Vincent's is THE best cardiac centre. I have many colleagues/friends there.

Fishing is a good sport for lots of reasons isn't it.

It sure is Donna. Great to read the other experiences and get their support.

    Thanks to all.

Welcome to the cardiac stent club Stapo ;)

Last week was my 7th birthday since my cardiac arrest. Bet you feel a whole lot better now the plumbing has been fixed.

    Enjoy life mate.

Thanks Donna. Yes giving up the smokes is the hard part. But I'm doing ok.

  15. Hi fellow Raiders

celebrated my 60th birthday 3 weeks ago so we thought we would spend the weekend in Sydney on the harbourIMG_4335.JPG

Great spot. We might come here twice a year for a weekend visit. Anyway went to a restaurant and had great food drinks etc then on the way back to our appartments I thought I was getting bad indigestion  IMG_4336.JPG

Nope it was a  heart attack  ended up in north shore hospital  5 stents later and 1 week in hospital

recovering and bored at home I decided to try for some blackfish at The Entrance. Asked Marvin if he could find some nice wire weed as this time of year it's hard to find and I didn't want to die getting weed.IMG_4342.JPG

Good old Marv got some really good stuff off another friend. It's a bit like gold in March.

Anyway not expecting to catch a lot of fish being a nice day I was happy just to be there and alive. Lol

But luck was on our side. Marv and I cleaned up with 12 fish total

    great day good friendsIMG_4337.JPGIMG_4339.JPGIMG_4340.JPG
