  1. That might be better. Send me a pm next week and I'll give you my phone number. I have plenty of weed I'm experimenting with it in a fish tank. So far so good. Been 1 month. 2e7aa4f16fefbdea60b5f168fe270b99.jpg

    Cheers Steve.

  2. The best weed we use is the wire weed. ded7174718d11c8f23078a06bf618696.jpg

Can't really tell you where to get it as its top secret stuff. I'm sure one of the boys on the wall would give you some if not the tackle shops would sell it for a few bucks.

  3. Not much action atm.

Went for a walk this morning and only a couple fishing for blackfish along the wall. One well known difficult local bloke fishing the run but it's choked with sand and he was putting burley in which he only does if he's not getting any downs.

I've been fishing the north channel and the fish are patchy: they'll be around for 10 to 15 minutes then move on.

Not too sure about bream near the mouth. Fishing off the sand on the southern side of the channel looks promising.

Walking under the Pines at the boatshed my son and I were surprised by a 18cm whiting landing on the footpath in front of us. The cormorants above. There was another near the fish down near the Fisheries boatshed too.

This time last year I was getting some fantastic flathead on SPs but this year not a touch.

2 more days of holidays left (I'm a teacher) so a couple more sessions before work takes control.

    Yes correct.

We got nice fish on the wall Saturday then nothing much till now. ( Thursday ). With the westerly winds blowing it makes it very difficult and uncomfortable.

I think they are still doing OK in the boats but it would be very cold out in the open waters at the moment.

    Cheers Steve.

  4. Thanks guys.

I can remember getting help when I was young.

It made me a better fisherman.

I'm still getting help from Fishraider.

JD, I don't know anything about obsessive compulsive, must have behaviour....hahahahah

Yes well done. Now all we need is a photo of the little cakes.

  5. Yes, I do own a few rods, each has a purpose.

Yes, I do own a few reels, again, they have their purpose.

I find rods, repair rods and reels and give them away.

This kind of thing goes on constantly amongst Fishraiders.

I know some collectors and introduced other Raiders to them.attachicon.gifimage.jpg

It interests me... but Im more Use it or Lose it.

So, I've made a few good scores recently, the Alvey made Image reel.

    Made for the British market.

    The Hank Newman rodattachicon.gifimage.jpg

And the book Sydneys' Top Fishing Spots.attachicon.gifimage.jpg

Last week I found another, later edition.

Highly sort after, and promised to a good mate and Raider.

    My dilemma,

If I give it to him I'll only have one!! Hmmmmm???

    Just Kidding its yours Trevor.

No I applaud your passion Andrew I've never heard of a Hank Newman or some of those fishing reels we seen. Must be great to own something you have high regard for then be able to put it to good use. Not just a show piece.

Keep up the good work. Love the photos but I have a better one as you know.

  6. For me, shore based fishing in Tuggerah lakes has been a bit sketchy this year.

I pretty much only fish for flatties with SPs and blackfish at the run out to the mouth. Like Stapo has said the mouth is pretty weird atm with a second opening to the north of the usual run, It is very shallow and will probably close up soon leaving the lake cut off from the sea for the first time in many years.

Luderick fishing in the run looks like it won't happen until a big flood restores the usual run to the sea with its rocky structure on the southern shore providing shelter etc.

Had a fish on Sunday for zip along both the north and south channels.

Tried again yesterday: same tide (runout) and the fish were on. Started with a flick for flatties for nothing then changed to luderick with some OK weed from Long Jetty and got a fish after a cast or two. Got it wired and then pulled in a fish nearly every cast. Got 6 and decided to g back to SPs: bream and tailor going off. Lost quite a few.

Just one of those days when the fish are all on (no flatties though). Sorry no pics but nothing huge 6 luderick and 2 tailor kept.

I reckon I could go down today and get nothing. What is it that makes fish bite like that?

I think with the channel open the way it is the run in tide water is very clear. We're not getting many blackfish until the bottom of the run out.

Finished for now. Off to the painters then I put the strings on with a pick guard and a dual pick up. Should take 6 weeks. So I'm starting another one.

  8. Lovely finish , what's the inlay around the sound hole.

Not real sure foz. King Billy I thing. Sound board is about 2.5mm. Rosette is made from timber. You can spend a lot of time on the rosette all hand made.

  9. Great catch Steve ! How I miss the parenting session, but it won't be for another 4 months right?

I start prawning late September early October. Had some of my best catches around grand final long weekend and with no daylight saving you can be home by 8.30.

  10. Good to see you getting amongst a few Steve! I hope for your sake that opening lets a few of the silver beasts in for you to play with!

    Cheers scratchie!!!

Thanks Jeff. Some people are even talking about snapper. I'll believe it when I see it.

  11. Thanks for the report Stapo. Nice to see the blackies are back after the rain. Are they getting much at the mouth? Any winter flatties? I'm hoping to get out in the tinny this weekend for some blackies and flatties with my folks if the weather is good.

After the storms the other week a small opening was created to the sea. Thinking it would close in a matter of weeks it's got bigger and deeper. Resulting in better flow in the system.

Maybe bigger fish will come in now.

Well I heard from a very reliable source that a Jew was caught on a soft plastic over the weekend. Around the 70cm size.

Interesting. No location given. Well yes but I can't say.

Still catching a few blackfish. Things are looking good for the prawning season.
