  1. Great stuff witha! Always good to get our in the yak and catch something! I enjoy fishing with hard bodies especially shallow areas and when chasing bass. With a light setup, you feel every movement and are just waiting for that hit. Well done on the fish too! Cheers scratchie!!!
  2. That's a cracking fish chewie! A few great feeds for the barbie there! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  3. That story was just gold!!! Trung and Pete, that will be a story for you guys that will be told over and over again! What a magic day on the water! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  4. He might be having you on! Special squid??? Fresh squid would be my guess.
  5. Great haul there mr. Groper. Your going to have to show me your secret! I manage a few but to be honest I don't target them that much. A shame you couldn't get out chasing dollys, they are the best to eat. And after bringing home a few the other day, they are a family favourite! Well done Cheers scratchie!!!
  6. There some really good gutters around "the hole in the wall" and you can get 4wd access not far from there. The long tail tuna are on the run, so if you can get a livey out there your a chance. If your looking to head to tea/hawks, Jimmy's beach is good for flathead, bream, whiting so is corrie creek on the slack tides especially around the short cut. Under the bridges there your a chance of Jew as well. Good luck! Cheers scratchie!!!
  7. G'day raiders, Just wondering how many people are heading up here for the tourno? I hoping the weather for that weekend is the same as last year as it was great! If anyone is and needs some info just let me know and I'll be happy to share what I can. Cheers scratchie!!!
  8. Hey wayno, Not really any squid spots in that area. Maybe close to yaccaba headland you might be a chance. Are you camping at mungo?? Plenty of mullet in there that is great for all round bait. Especially of the beaches up there for Jews! Cheers scratchie!!!
  9. Cheers witha, your not wrong. Experience is everything with fishing. I always say, the older you get the wiser you become! These blokes were the wisest guys I know!
  10. Thanks Roberta. Not my first but definately the most spirited fight I've had. The blokes I went with were gold!
  11. Wow. What an awesome set of photos! The jackets are there in plague proportions. The photo of that dolly about to take the lure is amazing! Thanks for sharing! Cheers scratchie!!!
  12. It depends on the conditions. At night jewfish. During the day, snapper and kings or if the weathers good we will brush the comp and go chase dollys or beaks! Port stephens has it all
  13. No problems nas! Once you get one, note the time, tide, bait etc. Try again around those same conditions and you'll have more success! Then the addiction takes hold! Don't be afraid to change rigs and bait either. Different things work in different places!
  14. Well done mate! Never complain about a legal size king and PB as well. Great work! Cheers scratchie!!!
  15. Sorry Harry but I have to disagree a little. For jewfish, it is mostly based around the amount of time you put into chasing them and knowing the area that you fish. Servo squid will work at times but YES you are more likely to catch bigger fish and more often with fresh bait. Jewfish work certain areas at different tides and times, that is what you need to work out! If they are not there the fresh bait means nothing! Most jew fishermen put a hell of a lot of time for zeros whilst some people will catch the odd one as bycatch. So my advise, find a renown spot for Jew, grab the best bait for that area, keep your bait in the strike zone, work the tides, grab a seat and a newspaper as it may be a long time between fish! Cheers scratchie!!!
  16. cheers pete, a lot harder than most people think but the adrenalin keeps you going. so too does a nice cold beer thanks diesel. the best thing about these guys was the willingness to share their knowledge. They were calm and direct and you never felt like you were going to lose a fish. And yes, I did show them how good a bibbed lure was at catching bonito. Wouldn't give my boat up for anything!!! Thanks Noel, it's about time too. Thought I was the banana on my last few trips! lol cheers thanks vic. there are plenty of zero days before the magic. just keep at it!! Are you coming up for the trailer boat tourno??? cheers mate, the trouble with enjoying yourself is that it goes to quick. felt like a couple of hours, not 2 days!!!
  17. Have a safe trip home guys and hope you pick up a few more along the way! Thanks again, Cheers scratchie!!! P.s don't let john dehydrate on the way back!
  18. G'day raiders, I had a very kind invite from fellow raider gh1952 to go chase beaks over the last 2 days and was told I could bring a mate with me. With great conditions expected it was looking like a great trip. Arrived at the marina Tuesday at 730 and was greeted by a very friendly chap GH and two of his elder friends cliff and john. With anticipation high we set off and collected some bait fairly quickly and I also learnt very quickly who was in charge! Well, the owner wasn't driving, the captain wasn't captaining, so it could only be the decky cliff at 74yrs young and about 45years game experience behind him and a one time Aust marlin record holder. In actual fact, as the trip went on between these 3 blokes there was over 100 years game experience between them. Now I was really excited and bound to do what I was told. So with livies on board, we stuck to the plan for day 1 and didn't turn a reel except for a couple of small dollies. Feeling deflated I asked GH if he needed anyone tomorrow and he said sure! So me and mate fronted up at 6, with these spritely old fellas already to go and off we went. Changed tact and headed east. Trolled lures from the 50 and half an hour later bang zzzzzz the sound we love to hear and I'm up! After a very very spirited fight, this bloke did not want to give in and injured in the battle.[ attachment=82492:post-24974-0-77436800-1394615951_thumb1.jpg] A nice 70kg plus black!!! After a few fist pumps and a nice 830am cold beer, there was no time to celebrate as the next line soon loaded up and another 70kg+ black was on. My mate was up and this is pretty much the first fish he's ever caught, he hasn't even caught a flathead and played it well under the experienced crew. Landed and released and a moment in time he'll never forget! Then it was GH turn and 30mins later he was on to a similar fish and honestly landed the black in 3mins and let me release it. We had one more bite that didn't stick but we were all happy with the day anyway. We headed for home and were back moored up by 3pm. Over the past 2 days fishing and learning, I must say that I know nothing, experience is everything and the old boys still can show us young fellas a thing or two or three etc! GH- thanks for the experience, is was out simply MAGIC! Thanks for reading, Cheers scratchie!!!
  19. Whenever you guys want. They are everywhere up here ATM. Not that far out either about 12 mile. A few beaks in between as well. Make a date and send me a pm!
