  1. Might have to do with the size of the bait fish they feed on. They eat massive sambos over there.
  2. Mate if i were you id be showing random people in the street let alone bragging my ass off here. Amazing!!
  3. Spanish Mackerel, they have been catching a few in the past week including a large fish in the channel outside Burraneer. Maybe that'll teach ya for using 15lb leader
  4. Good job on the sambo they go so hard once they hit that size. Caught a Salmon that was around the 80cm mark off my kayak once. It was one of the best fights ive had and would rank up there with a kingy of the same size only with arial acrobatics chucked in. I Tried to put my foot in the shot as he was 3 foot lenghts, he also measured from the fully extended hobie pedal all the way to the seat. Wish i had an actual ruler on board at the time
  5. Did you throw one out live when you seen the Marlin?
  6. Mate, that shirt. Where can i find one!
  7. No need for a swivel when using braid
  8. Shhh dont tell anyone, we dont want all these filthy Harbour fishos invading our turf!!!
  9. Funny you guys mention the head bump. Me and a work mate threw a few fish traps in at work when we were on night shift. This is a spot in botany bay where you cant access by boat or by foot that has some absolute monsters. Came back in the morning to find an absolute beast in there. It had a head bump and was 2.4kgs no measurement unfortunately but had to be pushing 50cm
  10. What % of rock fishos leave their sh@t behind? Im gonna say a high percentage. Honestly such a low thing to do. Im glad i have a boat and i dont have to deal with the scum.
  11. I have no doubt they could reach that size over time. They live a very long life.
  12. Yakkas can be found in yarra where the breakwall meets the beach, there is a nice weedy, rocky area call The Suck. You can also try around the corner from Molineaux where the tugs park. If your heading out on the weekend you will see a few boats there getting bait (also a good spot to catch kings). Bare island is another spot. Try the calm water near where the bridge is. The other 2 spots i like are on the other side of the bay. The Hot Water Outlet and Watts reef, though can be hit and miss. I wouldnt waste your time with sabikis imo they are a pain in the ass. Just use the smallest long shank you can find with the smallest sinker you can find. The smaller the bait the better chance of a hook up. For the rig i use quite a large circle hook with about a meter and a half of 80 pound leader tide onto a heavy duty swivel. Above the swivel used a large sinker (any shape) that will allow you to get the yakka down to the preferred depth without him being able to swim where he likes. Pin him just in front of the dorsal but not to far down otherwise you will kill him. Angle the hook so the point is more towards the yakkas head to avoid him hooking himself When using circles. I also use the same rig without a sinker to float one out in the berley trail. Just tie a balloon about 2-3 meters up your line to allow him to drift out. Heres a vid of Botany Bay guru Scotty Lyons catching livies at the suck then showing you the rig for catching kings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arzgfzb8foA
  13. Didnt even think of that, had some knife jigs too shouldve used those. Not quite mate this was outside the actual river. 80 pound fluro with 50 pound braid. Theres a Shark Island outside the Hacking, its a bombie towards cronulla. One of the best surf breaks in Australia. Youtube it!!
  14. Headed out yesterday at first light, straight to Shark Island to get some Slimys and Yakkas. The bloody Sweep were in plague numbers and it took me ages to get 2 yakkas. No matter the spot i wanted to fish always has massive amounts of yakkas (this would come back to haunt me). Long trip to get to the spot and there was another boat downrigging squid without much luck. Anchored up got a berley trail going and sent one yakka down deep and another on a balloon. As soon as the balloon drifted out something massive was splashing around it trying to grab the yakka as all this was happening my other rod goes off and i pull in a decent 70cm king. The action on the balloon stopped so i reeled him in and sent him down. I turned my attention to getting more bait look in the berley trail not a single yakka spewing!! Just then my rod buckles over and this thing is going nuts. After a long fight i pull in an 80cm model which is a PB for me. Realising im on a hot bite i pull up anchor and race to a spot where i know i can get some more bait. Quickly catch 5 yakkas and head back only to find a scuba diving vessel perched up right near where i wanna be. I anchored up anyway and had a crack but to no avail. Oh well cant complain plus i learnt a valuable lesson.
  15. Even outside the river to Little Marley has been quiet for me, 3-4 fishing sessions downrigging live squid have yielded exactly 0 fish.
  16. Yep ive caught a few rats too. Funny this time last year i was getting smashed by hoodies in gymea bay, landed a few legals but this year zip. I gave up on the Hacking and have been fishing lures in Botany. Damn shame. Still plenty of bread and butter species on the flats though but im sure you're already aware of that Yowie!
  17. Has anyone caught a legal kingy in the river yet?
  18. If your pumping yabbies fish the flats anywhere above 0.4m will produce fish!! Dont fish yabbies in deeper water unless you enjoy catching baby snapper.
  19. Cloud cover+ high barometric= good fishing. This week has been awesome.
  20. Fished the hacking last year and caught a baby snapper as im reeling it in my rod near breaks in half as a king grabbed it. It let go and as i brought it to the surface 3 1m+ kings followed it. I quickly put a hook through it on my heavy outfit (illegal i know but dont pretend you wouldnt do the same!!!) and dropped it right in front of their faces. They swam around it bumping it with their heads but wouldnt take it. Smart buggers those hoodlums.
  21. Firefighter at the airport, that road would be General Holmes Drive just before the airport tunnel
