  1. yeah they always seem to be a bit of a rare catch really dont they. they are a bit like pike really. they seem to hang around wharfs, rocky outcropings etc etc i actually found a good method. if u berley up hard, and theres a tiny bit of a current ill have a soft plastic out with a very light weight heavy jig and use a plastic that has quite a bit of movement in the tail. ive picked up quite a few that way, also have a bait out under a float in your burley slick. when they are around they will pretty much attack anything. i used to chase them all the time in brisbane water when i was little. goodluck!
  2. offshore fly fishing is good fun to get into i tried a few times with my trout gear and got spooled by a small stripey ah well it was fun while it lasted :/
  3. ouch mate, not a good start to the day. where abouts have u been gettin livies? its been hard to get any lately, but i dont really know the spots. slow trolling slimies past the fad(s) apparently has been working on the dollies i dropped an 8kg + bull on the weekend on a xmas tree about 5 miles past the fad. they are a bit ficcle at the moment. hope the engine is ok now
  4. dont forget its not the size of the longtom its how you catch it
  5. if you guys need another boat to tee up with when you go wide, let me know. im always going wide in my 5.2m centrecab Ive done numerous trips to the shelf already this season. so let me know. Cheers, Col
  6. i got my first marlin only probably 3 or 4 miles off lion island. the fish are where the bait is!
  7. ive been working bb wide etc last few weeks. a month of sundays trolling and nothing yet.. the waters not warm enough yet. out closer to the shelf ive seen schools of baitfish getting carved up by dolphins time and time again, but nothing else!! fads arent producing yet as only the rare dollie has turned up randomly, they will start schooling under the fad when the temp and baitfish come in. we havent even picked up any stripies or bonito. its dead out there. actually the only hit was some stupid bird picked up my squidgie garrie and took it for a spin. if you're trolling the fads later when they start producing, terrigal and north syd fad are only about 8 miles within each other, so you may as well check them both. things hsould start to get better soon, at the moment focus on kingies at pittwater or jewies the hawkesbury. things should liven up in the next few weeks, i hope. we had tagged a few bills by this time last year so its bit of a late season. Col :]
