  1. More likely too early than too late. You may get one if you are lucky but don't be disappointed if you don't.
  2. If you have a fish deep or arcing directly under you, you may need 2 speed. I have never used it but I have never caught anything over 20kgs.
  3. They are both good reels. We have caught plenty of 15 to 25kg longtail tuna on them. I prefer the tyrnos mostly but I still like my tld30 2 speed as well.
  4. Yeap nice boat, that was on my list of boats to buy but I ended up with a 540f signature. Not many of them around second hand.
  5. Its not that you are going to break them, its how easy they are to work with and how reliable they are is the bigger issue. Quality of the hardware as well. I picked up some second hand ones off ebay so you just need to keep your eyes open as they turn up every now and again. Still cost me $600 though.
  6. From what I understand cheap poles are a lot more flexible and telescopic ones are unreliable so you get what you pay for. Pacific composite poles I am pretty sure are the reelax poles.
  7. Run two split rings at the treble, allows them to turn a little easier. You are always going to throw a few salmon on lures as the head shake so much. Chris
  8. Have a look on reelax.com.au as they have many styles to look at.
  9. If you have a small boat you won't have to carry an epirb although it may save your life.
  10. I've never seen one that small but I have caught a few kings on the standard size ones anyway.
  11. Peak today. No kings, saw some leathers, didn't lose any jigs. Tonnes of stripeys. Got 2 on light spin. Didn't troll for them. Chris
  12. I have got alloy rocket launchers which have numerous cracks in them, one has completely separated. I live in the Eastern Suburbs. Anyone know of someone who can look at them for me to get fixed up? Thanks Chris
  13. If I would give you one tip for freezing fish it would be get a vaccum sealer. The condition the fish comes out of the freezer is fantastic. I had some mahi mahi which had been in the freezer for over 3 months the other day. The flesh was still firm and tasted fantastic. This is from a fish that is not even supposed to freeze well. Good preparation is also important. Bleed immediately, keep cool. Don't rinse flesh in fresh water. You get to eat quality fish and squid 12 months of the year without having to go out on those freezing winter days! Bring on summer!
  14. Shimano Jigwrex S526. Just a bit more than the tcurve but a heaps better rod. Much lighter and better balanced. Pulls 300gm jigs with ease and plenty of stopping power. You will get it for well under $300. I have the tcurve t200, its a good rod for the money but you will run out of puff quicker on 250/300gms. 400 is a bit heavier rod but will do those jig weights ok. So what I am saying is the heavier jigs will feel easier to pull up but then the weight of the rod will catch up with you after a while. The jigwrex is quite a short rod as well so not as versatile for downrigging and more normal fishing. I use my t200 for all kinds of stuff so it is great from that point of view.
  15. It was going to die anyway, so you may as well put it out of its misery. People are kidding themselves if they thought it was going to live.
  16. I used an 850 with 50lb yesterday and I was suprised how good it was. Got kings to 5kg and it did not stress the reel at all. Excellent for a cheap reel. Decent rod makes a difference as well though. I used a saltiga blast 4500 as well but preferred the Penn.
  17. i put a tyrnos handle on mine. Shimano will sell you parts not reels.
  18. i have, just ring shimano and ask them. I can't remember but it might of been something like $30.
  19. Hours on the motor effect the value more than the age. Its pretty common for engine ages to be different to hull ages as dealers don't match motors with hulls when then order. The guy who buys the hull may not want a motor or could want any number of engine specs which the hull seller may or may not be able to get for them. Cheers Chris
  20. pretty sure its the department of lands or something like that. You can buy laminated ones of small reigons with detailed contour lines from some fishing shops
  21. You can catch plenty of squid off the rocks at different locations. You can catch gars in the summer at a few places as well. I didn't spin with them last year but I used to catch them the night before or in the morning at one ledge and then go down to my king ledge and spin with them. You just need to do a bit of adventuring to find them. You need to get a bit of burley and some good polarized as sometimes they sit under the water a bit.
  22. I got in for $5 after 5.00 pm. If you are not interested in seeing the big boats outside this is fine. I got a PE6 Shimano Jigwrex demo rod for $190 so I was pretty happy with that. For $5 I might go back, never got to speak to the Furano guys. Chris
  23. Kings don't like yakka's anywhere near as much as gars. Probably the reason yakka's catch so many kings is that they are the most common bait out there but if I had a preference they would be near the bottom of the list for livebait. 1. Live Squid 2. Live Gar 3. Live Pike 4. Live Slimey 5. Live Yakka Dead bait is more mixed but generally for me Dead spun garfish Dead squid I think yakka's would be hard to swim straight. You can always have a go and tell us what you think? Cheers Chris
  24. The layout of forum posts have now changed for me. I now have to open every individual post to a topic? Is this my computer or has something changed? Chris
