    Jury Duty

Sorry to hear you feel it an inconveinience to be selected for jury duty, but as it has been noted the justice system relies on a range of the public to be chosen from and it is interesting and can be a laugh listening to the excuses they use to be excused I have been called up about 6 times for Dowling centre local court and once for supreme court, of this I have been dismissed twice and didn't have to show, sat around waiting and then released not required twice, called into the court and not called up once, called up but rejected by the prosecutor once (could have been the bikers leather jacket black tshirt and jeans worn by a big ugly guy with a beard) and empanelled once for a 2 week trial (Romanian drug runners) there are provisions to be excused have a look here jury service Q&A sherriffs office I recommend that you take something to relieve the bordom while you wait Most times you'll be out by lunchtime and then you could go for an afternoon
  20. They can swim but they can't hide. CSIRO scientists have tracked the highly-prized Southern Bluefin tuna to research their long-term feeding habits, for the first time. The work has revealed where and when the tuna feed, at what depth and even the temperature of the water, despite the migratory habits of the fish which can have them covering 8,000 kilometres each year. PhD student Sophie Bestley and her colleagues at the CSIRO's Wealth from Oceans national research group have surgically implanted miniaturised electronic data-storage tags into juvenile tuna off the coast of southern Australia. Already the team has found that tuna feed almost anywhere they can and three days out of every four, even during their annual migrations. The CSIRO believes this information will assist future management of what is currently an overfished and depleted species which supports a global commercial fishery worth more than $US1 billion ($A1.25 billion) a year. "Direct and long-term information on feeding is extremely rare for migratory marine species," Ms Bestley said. "It is available for Bluefin Tuna only as a result of their unique physiology and the long-term electronic tagging programs instituted by the CSIRO. "When the tuna feed, the metabolic energy produced during digestion causes their tummies and surrounding tissues to heat up. "This warming is recorded by internal temperature sensors on the tags." The tagging has revealed the tuna to be supreme hunters, feeding on 76 per cent of all days in waters ranging from five degrees celsius to 23 degrees. They can catch a meal at the surface or as deep as 672 metres. But the sensors also recorded periods of fasting lasting up to 24 days, usually in waters warmer than 15 degrees. The fish in the CSIRO study swam from the Great Australian Bight to winter in the south Indian Ocean, before returning often close to where they were originally tagged the previous summer. Ms Bestley said studying the feeding and migratory habits of the tuna would help determine the future size of a sustainable catch. "My work will help us build a better understanding of where they are at, what time of year and whether they are likely to be harder or easier to catch in different places and times," she said. "This information can then be used in models to provide advice on the status of the stock and what levels of catch are sustainable and will allow the stock to rebuild."
  21. don't forget to check the restricted areas up there the local tackle shop will be able to steer you right marine park link - click here
  22. Nice Reggie they are some good looking Muddies Ahh the joys of sand flies in FNQ after our trip to Cairns last Sept took near 6 weeks to clear up the bites from one afternoon trip to the boat ramp while they ignored me, guess I must taste like crap we were instructed to always unload the tinnie and turn it sideways across the ramp while you kept an eye on the river that way the croc had to get past the boat to get to you and there were a couple of crocs lurking in the area
  23. Always good to get some keepers when you go away for a few days fishing BTW Prawn & Wainoo on your first posts hope you enjoy Fishraiders
  24. It made me laugh hope you enjoy it too
  25. Hi AJB a location would be good as there may be a Raider out there who lives in the area and can lend a hand also is the boat 'glass or alloy ? remember with alloy hull don't earth to the hull as this makes the boat an anode because you electrically charge the hull
