it is possible that's a fair statement, but to be honest, you just can't tell. The second photo appears to be externally in better condition, but that is not any guarantee about the internals. Wish it was easier than that, but its not! Get the service logs....might be a better guide than external appearance. Good luck with it, whatever you decide.

Hi Blatros, I'm afraid that you will only get a vague indication of condition by looking at the outside. The only way to tell is by removing the jacket and inspecting the inside of the riser on water jackets. If there is obvious heavy corrosion rust staining on the outside then be wary. Engine overheating may also indicate rusted out risers. But as I said, you have to remove to inspect. Regards

Closer still is Berrowra waters. Have a poke around both sides of the ferry. Although, it does get a bit of a hiding on the weekends. Have a look around Brooklyn too. Alternately there are walking tracks that will get you to some of the spots in middle harbour like Bantry Bay and fig tree bay. Good luck

To be a comfortable 7 person, I really can't see anything under 26ft being suitable. I have a 28 Caribbean which has a big cockpit, and I wouldn't want to fish 7 persons. A family of 4 could be comfortable on a Caribbean 26 (flybridge, I know!) overnight in my view, but if you are used to the cabin in a 28ft Marina, you might struggle to adapt! That extra couple of feet make a big difference. Alternatively, look at a cat...at least you get the cockpit width and 2 donks. Just my 2c... Best of luck!

27meg is still used but seemingly far less than VHF these days. No operator permit required for 27 meg. Marine rescue still monitor 27 meg. 27meg is only 5 watt output whereas VHF is up to 25watts - so subject to atmospheric conditions VHF has a far better range. Same principals/ protocols apply when making a call. Trust that helps

Have you spent any time on UHF CB recently? The repeaters are generally taken over by Dheads with high powered units and directional antenna's who have no respect for other users. When it is free, it is abused. The difference is that whilst not commercial, it is a telecomunication with internationally recognised protocols. If it is free, why would anyone bother to read a manual before jumping on air and pretend to know what they are doing? A lot of people who think that rules are unnecessary generally won't apply them and end up being the problem. I use UHF CB as the classic example...have a listen to channel 5, the designated emergency channel, some days you would be lucky to get a word in edgeways, but its free and its not actively policed by ACMCA, so who cares, right? AND, some people may benefit from having a 50 point check before getting their boat off the trailer! 😁

With due respect, there needs to be some form of control over the airwaves. RANT.... The licence comes after sitting a course on the use of the radio and may just enable you to get help efficiently using proper procedures learnt in the course. Five minutes listening to channel 16 on a busy day in Sydney harbour demonstrates the disregard that many unlicensed operators have for what is a very important communication tool. I just shake my head sometimes and wonder what these people would do in a real emergency. RANT OVER.......... I recomend doing the course and getting your permit. Pretty sure you will find in the course, the rules about using marine vhf from the shore. Look into it - you will benefit from it.

Comming back to middle harbour from a weekend on the Hawkesbury, came across a (looks like) 40 + ft Sunseeker on the rocks at Grotto point. Any one know the story?

Could be a Trim Master setup - I am just guessing. Trim Master went out of business quite a few years ago. You could try contacting International Marine in VIC. They might be able to tell you what the standard fitment was when the boat was built....I have had mixed success finding info on Bertie's and Caribbean's over the last couple of years. You could also try one of the American boating forums, there is a bigger brains trust available in the US by virtue of their population no's. Grab a couple of photos to put up too. It seems that everyone is 'entitled' these days. Some one else is doing it therefore, I am also entitled to! Tunks Park is the same. Even the people already on the water are 'entitled' 4 knots means 15, give or take 5kts, and 'No Wash' refers to everyone else but them. I pointed out to a tinny skipper that he was in a 4kt zone, he pointed out the 4kt sign 50 meters in front of him as if to say 'it's ok, Im almost out of the 4kt zone! What? What about the 'no wash' zone? On Sunday whilst lining up for the jetty, after patiently waiting 10 mins for the dock space, I was maneuvering to drop some people off. Apparently as a larger flybridge boat, I was less entitled to the space, than the smaller tinny that came racing in behind me, whilst I'm backing in! I had to throttle hard forward to avoid backing into the (insert rude word here)... But as the tinny skipper informed me, it was all ok because he was just dropping some one off.......are you for real? Pity the prop wash didn't push him onto the shallow rocks No manners and no idea.

Sadly, no. I have headed out a few times to Sydney FAD, but each time has been slightly uncomfortable fo those on board, so we have come back in each time... Probably heading out too late in the moring anyway!

Worked at Halvos for a while, Quite certain that the OP is a much later boat - prob. Fibreglass. The only FG boats that I can think of were the Island Gypsys by Kong Halvorsen. Watching with interest though.

Not Halverson. Seems to be a more recent design with walk around cabin. Kind of like a Grand Banks, but I don't think it is a GB. Certainly interesting.

I normally avoid entering into discussions like this but just feel the need to point out something that people often forget when bagging the government (No matter if it's blue / red / green). Our government (doesnt matter what side) is not a profit making enterprise. Money from sales / taxes / duties/ fines....etc does not go into their pockets....it goes to providing the services we enjoy (and often expect). How it's distributed though.....That's a whole other argument, not for this forum !

Hi Gazzzz, I haven't been there for quite a few years, and my jewie record from Forster is Zero however, I have seen them caught with some regularity from the Forster break wall using pike live baits, & fishing the run up tide by casting into the channel & walking up (along) the break wall , following the bait. I used to catch worms (the beach kind) quite close to the beach side of the break wall as well (Forster side). Others may have more recent information - either way, good luck & enjoy!
