  1. It's a pretty crap boat mate. I'm with Noel, I recon you should sell it. I ll give you a grand for it.?✌
  2. Good one finding room to fish down there. No suprise to get the whiting on blades. Cast into the edge of the gutter slow draw with the rod to get the vibe working as the swell surges back out then let it drop back to the bottom. Often you don't need to wind in line as the vibe gets dragged parallel to the beach toward the rip. The whiting will pick it of the bottom. Vibes as small as 15 mm will catch flatties also.
  3. Like all the others have said. Prepared properly there ok, just don't make my mistake and put kingfish on the same plate. That will put it in perspective for u. Smoked or or fish cakes are the go.
  4. Thanks for the input fellas. I had a day off yesterday so I tested out the jig stick with my sol2 3000. It fit the rod( similar to the blue gomoku) perfectly. Bouncing 30 to 60 gram inchku jigs was great, lost a rat King beside the boat but the set up felt good. The sol has Same 6.2 to 1 gears as the bio and I see what you mean by the torque you put through the reel even on small jigs. I like the weight and balance of this size reel so back to the drawing board. All my gear is the best I can get on a tight budget so back to sifting through the bs. Reading Alan hawk reviews make u realise how unscrupulous some people and companies can be.
  5. Thanks mate, I was given the impression that the hagane. Gears and body were the bees knees and should handle jigs up to 100 grams no problem. Its so hard sorting the bs from the facts when the manufacturers and sales guys are full of it. you sound like you now your stuff so it's all food for thought. i appreciate your input.
  6. Hey guys, I am looking at a 4000 swxg biomaster for a light jig stick rated Pe 2.5. targets are small to medium kings and snapper. Also will use as heavy soft plastic outfit. Has any one had experience with biomasters there doesn't seem to be many reviews on the internet. I can get one for $260 Any thoughts
  7. Well done mate. The old saying big bait big fish isn't always right.
  8. All good bud. Funny how a little type o can change things! the fish sound too big to be toads. Ugly spotted things in shallow reefy water sound like kelpys to me I think rock cale is the proper term. Bream and trevalley should be good options in the area.
  9. Hey mate, great to hear your keen. I am a little worried about the location you are talking about. I thought Queenscliff was at the north end and the southe end near Shelley ( the pool) was a protected area. Hope I have the story wrong. check out the dpi site before fishing any location I recon.
  10. Thanks guys, It never ceases to amaze me what creatures are lurking in the depths( or shallows).
  11. Hey fellas, it's a tricky subject and I find myself with foot in both camps. in my younger years I thrived on conflict, may have had something to do with the sports I was involved in. Now being a responsible husband and parent I have to think twice about challenging the big drunk yobbo on the wharf with the undersized fish. My suggestion would be to approach any one with undersized fish with a smile, hey mate you got a few fish good onya. Do you recon they make the size limit. If they are happy to have a conversation great. If they get the shits just say, no worries mate it's your descission hope you get some good ones. Then you can walk away and call fisheries.
  12. Unlucky. My five year old says, what eats squid daddy. I start to think, what the hell doesn't!
  13. Hey swivelfish. The transducer cable is most Likley inducing the interference into either your aerial or power supply cable for the radio. Seperate these where you can also I think there called ferrite rings you can run the cable through to Obsorb some of the interference. Power supplies together should not be an issue but transducer cable should be isolated where possible. Good luck doing that in the confines of a boat.
  14. Still sounds like a good day on the water. Damn real life getting in the way again. I have never fished Brisbane waters before but have herd it's a bit of a nursery at times. But hay, where there's small fish there should be some big ones trying to eat them.
  15. Hey Raiders, I am thinking about getting a 4000 nasci to put on a maikuro light jig rod rated Pe 2.5 would be putting 20 pound braid on it for kinggies from boat and kayak. Would love to hear your thoughts on the reel and set up.
  16. Pier pressure. He just wanted to be like everyone else?
  17. Hey hotbite.I tried to follow up on the cherabin and found out that they are a macrobrachium. There are apparently up to 200 varieties and there are at least one marine species found on the east coast As far south as Sydney. They're was too much science talk and my head started to hurt so let's run with rock prawn. No fisheries info, do you know if u can keep them.
  18. Well done bud. Who woulda though you could have some much fun with your pants off!! Well umm. You said it went for 20 minutes.
  19. Hope I'm not giving away trade secrets
  20. It worked great until some bugger chopped down the pine tree or painted TH e blue house that were critical for your marks and very dependent on weather. I recon this used to force us to prospect more.
  21. Hey mate, we got squid at jimmys beach and also around hawks nest boat ramp
  22. Thanks Hotbite, Cherabin fit the bill except for the location. The ones I have seen in the shoal haven and now at tea gardens have been in salt and or brackish water at best. And way to far south for our little tropical friends. That according to the Internet, and that never lies.
  23. Hey guys. I haven't been on here for ages. It was getting to frustrating while working every waking moment between family commitments then reading about you fellas actually catching fish. Any how we recently headed up to tea gardens for our anual family get together and thought I might post about the squid I encountered up there. While the kids were playing in the sandy shallows with the grand parents I walked out to waiste deep water and cast a squid jig out to the weed line. 5 casts and 3 squid. All average 25 cm units. The best fun was walking back to shore all 30 or so meters away pulling the squid past the kids. Watching the squid ink and change colour was a great experience for the kids. One squid did some thing I have never seen before. As soon as I de hooked it and returned it to the water it inked and instead of shooting off turned itself jet black in an instant and stayed motionless for about 30 seconds before slowly dropping to the bottom turning pale and skulking off. I thought that was pretty cool. I also witnessed a tiny snack size 4 inch squid drifting over a barren sand flat sitting parallel to the one drifting strand of sea grass visible for 50 meters. I guess it's the oasis in the desert. The little bugger was darting out and grabbing tiny bait fish not much larger than 15mm long. This was also really cool to watch and I will defiantly keep in mind when trying to catch bait. Also posted in the aquarium section about some weird prawns we caught. Any way, gatta rate tea gardens and hawks nest pretty high on my favourite spots since spending time there with the extended family. Lakes, rivers, surf beach. Golf course. What more could you whant in a holiday.
  24. Took my two oldest prawning neat tea gardens last week. We were just mucking around for the kids sake and caught a couple of these things with massively long claws. I have seen a few over the years but no one has been able to tell me what they are. Didnt whant to keep them not knowing, There is three in the bucket with the normal prawns but one in particular with claws 3 times the length of its body. Any ideas
