  1. Nice one, its not a bad theory. when u see a big king inhale a bonnie like it was a jelly bean. It doesn't take a big king to feed a family which makes me wonder why guys keep a bag limit of 6 and seven kilo fish, I suppose it beats frozen fish fingers though.
  2. Sorry for the late post, its been a busy week. Planned an early start on Monday chasing kings around south head but got called in to work on my RDO. Sorted work out and got the boat in at tunks at about 11.30am. had to make the most of my time so decided to head straight out and pull some lures and hope for the best. I was surprised to see the water temp down to 19.5 with plenty of dead leather jackets bobbing about in the current lines. Trolled an xrap and small white squid down to Bondi for one small rat. Came across a school of fish I couldn't identify so decided to try out a new set up10 to 17 pound sol rod and Sol 2 3000 size reel loaded with 15 pound braid. Tossed a mackerel coloured wax wing toward the rocks and started an erratic retrieve. About 5 cranks in and bang im on. plenty of weight and power im thinking legal king. with the boat in gear and heading toward deeper water it was a stale mate for quite a while. after a great fight I must admit to be a little disappointed to see a thumping 67cm sambo. with fish in the boat realised I had left my camera in the car, took a quick snap with the dodgy old nokia and released the fish to fight another day. Not a bad christening of the new out fit and I have to say I think it is gunna be a favourite, Waxwing included. Did a few more laps of the rocks before domestic duties called. Finished with the small rat, sambo and a couple of bonnies, bonnies came home for a feed. Water temp back up to 23.3 on the way back up, must be some cold water deeper down being dragged up by the westerly. For a very late start a great arvo on the water.
  3. I ll second Marlin01, When i have cooked them, basically quickly seared then finished of with butter garlic sauce and lime its been pretty good, Still not whitting fillets though. and i completly agree with the treatment of the fish, though its hard to get a marlin in most eskys, at very least they should be covered with wet towels and taken back to be cleaned asap.
  4. You might want to try an electrical wholesaler.
  5. Well done, Often an underated tablefish. treated well i recon they are great. I am envious, i am still to catch a drummer, been dusted a couple of times though. Fishing for blackies(nearly called them something uterly un PC then) Brings back great memories of fishing for them with my grand farther when i was still knee high to a grass hopper, Their power on long light rods and center pin reels i recon is what reely got me hooked on fishing.
  6. A day on the water with the family. Good times and home safe. That's what life is all about. PRICELESS.
  7. nice one, funny how the normal thought process fails when the fish are on and u have run out of bait. The kings look like they have fattened up a bit since last got into them.
  8. I agree, particularly the tail light (brown wire). Also check the earth/neutral loop where all your lights are connected together. Good luck.
  9. Sounds like a great trip, love the vid and cool tunes too.
  10. Yeah I have no illusions regarding the better quality of yammys ect but trying to find a second hand motor for a reasonable price that isn't in far north queensland is not so easy. vortex has a three year warranty, Still some research to do and your input is all being taken on board. you gotta remember there is good Chinese and then theres the Chinese that leaves you hungry with a bad taste in your mouth
  11. All good mate, good read and report. There have been a few reports of cobia lately so its a chance. having never caught one im not sure what there dental work is like. kingys love cuttle fish, front hook through the front of the mantle with the second hook a good size treble pinned at the rear.
  12. Cylinder compression, gear box condition, any leaks, corrosion, condition of the leg and prop, original paint condition. If all these things are good, who cares how many hours it has done. if it looks good get a pro to inspect and make a decision then. hour meters can be misleading and people lie to sell things. Should only be used as a guide. My yammy has no service history because I do almost all maintenance myself. The motor is ultra reliable and well maintained with about 400 hours on it.
  13. Hard to go wrong with a white tub with fly mesh over the top, a 50mm hole in the middle. a piece of bread with a 40 mm hole placed under the fly screen. placed in the water with about 6 inches of water over it. I found that a falling tide was good as the mullet over the top of the trap want to go into the trap as their tales break the surface.
  14. The colour is just to make it look pretty. No really the colours are some what like the different shades of grey on the black and white. The different colours will indicate the different density of an object, say a soft mud or weed bottom or rock. If you are just looking for water depth/drop offs or bait ect black and white will give you what you want.
  15. Thanks guys, I have a larger glass center console to fish from but have had the littlie tinny I am gunna fix up for a camping/bream/bass boat 15 on the back and electric on the front. With two little ones and the missus not working it is all about value for money, also being some what of a horder resale price isn't really an issue. Plus if I break down up the river the electric will hopefully see me through and then I will have some thing to report about. Will probably give you a call Huey and see what we can do. Also can u do hull id plate for an old unregisted tinny. I have a receipt for its purchase.
  16. Hi guys, I am thinking of doing up a 11 foot tinny I have. I have heard good things about these parsun outboards. Do any of you have any experience or thoughts on them. Any input would be appreciated.
  17. Well done. Cracker of a fish from a breakwall. I believe it is a long tail tuna. Let us know how it was on the table.
  18. Another issue to think about is the fact that you have almost no stretch in a set up like that. you may want to think about a longer leader. Is FC leader very stretchy, I mainly use black majic.
  19. That's the future of our favourite past time. well done. nice feed too.
  20. The bay is full of places to get squid. From recent reports you will be lucky to get away from the slimeys down there. The rocky area around the Calala boat ramp has squid and livies. Honeymoon is well known squid spot.
  21. Mate, if u do go outside the bar can be very dodgy on the bottom of the run out with a north easter blowing, once the tide turns and starts to run up it usually calms down. the main channel from the trawler wharf at Greenwell point to the coal wharf at the heads of crookhaven are a good flatty drift. There are a few good holes around the heads there aswell. Without giving away too much rock walls current and drop offs like most river systems should be good. if you follow the normal rules for estuary fishing u should do alright.
  22. When they loose condition there is a lot less meat in the body and not as good eating in my experience. something to do with breeding or malting season.
  23. Good one, that's a fair bag. What do you do with the frigates, I have only ever used them for bait , are they any good to eat.
  24. Crossfire has it covered, my trailer brake cables were stretching due to flex in the trailer when tilted up for storage. the override would then travel full length and not bring the brakes on hard enough. if you pull the manual leaver up to activate the brkes and measure the distance from the back of the lock nut to the leaver and compare that distance to the travel available at the front end it should give you an idea of how much if any cable adjustment is needed. I hope this doesn't sound like jibberish.
