  9. I reckon everything is relative. Whenever I take a mate fishing, I supply the transport, boat, fuel and lures (if required). I clean the boat and clean/prepare the fish. All they have to do is bring their own rods (although I can provide that too if necessary)and provide scintillating conversation . BUT: my tinny runs on the smell of an oily rag and I live less than 10ks from any of my preferred fishing locations, so fuel costs are very minimal. If I was fishing under the circumstances you mentioned, then a 50/50 split is very reasonable IMO. Cheers Hodgey

    Baitcasters

The Coriolis is basically the lower end of the food chain. Will it stand up to a rampaging jack or barra? I'm not sure. Bassboy has mentioned two reels that I have: the curado and the revo. When I was deliberating over a new baitcaster, I discovered that numerous charter fishos up north used both these reels. Considering some of their clients can be a little rough on their gear through inexperience, I thought this said a lot about both of them. Other Raiders had encouraging reviews for both of them as well ... so I decided on one of each. The way I looked at it was - the $50 I would have saved on a cheaper reel would be small consolation after losing a potential PB or momentous catch. The two species you have mentioned are renowned for their tackle-testing ability. Have a look online at some of the reviews for both these reels and you will see what I mean ... Good luck! Cheers Hodgey

  14. I use spinnerbaits in 1/8 oz to 1/4 oz. Natural colored skirts, black/red, black/purple and natural/green are all very successful colors. Sammys and NW's in Impact Yellow, Ghost Ayu and Ghost Minnow are all very successful colors in my waterway. TN50's/60's are a must have in your collection ... as is a 'tackleback' in case you get stuck! Good luck! Cheers Hodgey

  18. Awesome footage! This article appears in today's paper, Greg: AN AMAZING run of southern bluefin tuna hit waters off Narooma and Bermagui on the weekend with the currents lining up just right. Recreational anglers out of Bermagui and Narooma reported having huge schools of the big tuna responding to their trail of bait cubes under their boats. Numerous fish up to 100kg were weighed in and there were even reports of fish taking beer cans fished like a popper on the surface. Meanwhile long-lining commercial vessels out of the ports have also been taking advantage of the tuna run, although depressed prices due to weak Japanese markets have taken the gloss of the catches. The bluefin tuna, so prevalent off Portland in Victoria a few weeks ago, were pushing up from the south and were being encountered at the NSW Far South Coast seamounts. Last year was also a good year for bluefin with fish up to 130kg, but the number of fish encountered in recent days has been simply stunning with some vessels catching and releasing more than 30 big fish in a session. The CSIRO sea surface temperature chart shows warmer water pushing from the north, butting up against colder water creating perfect conditions off Narooma. The run started late last week off Tathra, south of Bermagui, where one boat caught and released at least 30 fish in one cubing sessions. The same boat encountered similar numbers on Saturday with Scotty retelling the story of how the fish were amazingly taking beer cans, an old pair of sunglasses and even hooks attached to “Telecom” rope. Another group of anglers out of Bermagui targeted the tuna on flyfishing gear. Word has gotten out fast, but there is no guarantee as to how long the fish will stick around creating a tourism windfall. Further to the south in Victoria, the solid bluefin run at Portland is still going creating a boom for the town. There is a photo of a beer-can-caught tuna on the Narooma News website. Cheers Ian
