  1. Well done mate! First squid means the kingy and jewie fishing is about to get a whole lot better!
  2. Theyll be at different depths for different reasons. They may be in the shallows because a school of mullet is there or in deeper water feeding on a school of yakkas on a reef. Sometimes theyll just be moving up or down the river. The key is to work out where theyll be when!
  3. Cheers guys! Was a lot of fun, will post any more successes. Rezzman pm sent
  4. Thanks! A m+ has been the dream for a while now, hopefully soon!
  5. Hey Raiders, Headed out to a landbased spot in the Hawkesbury river friday night armed with fresh bottle squid in hopes of jewfish. Put the squid out straight away as we had plenty, and caught leather jackets while we waited for takes. First take resulted in a little soapie probably in the high 40s. Shortly after, Ben nailed a legal snapper going 33cm. As soon as the sun set, the jews started firing. We caught non stop soapies all between 30 and 50cm for the next few hours. Had so much fun headed back out on saturday with my dad. We started fishing with plastics and he nailed a big tailor (40cm) pretty much straight away. We saw some big salmon rise momentarily in front of us and flicked lures at em to no avail. A couple of minutes before sunset i had my first hit on a plastic, a tiny little jew, smallest i've caught probably only 20cm. Although not much of a catch, always great to see the fish that'll be fueling our stories in a couple of years. Sunset hit and we pulled another 6 soapies and a legal bream before getting cold and calling it a night. Not much in terms of quality jewfish but theres definitely fun to be had in the hawkesbury... Bring on summer! Tag

  14. Hey raiders, Went down to cowan creek with a mate for a 3hour late night session, took a little bit of burley to get things going. About 20 minutes in, after two missed takes, caught a legal tailor, maybe 5 minutes after, Ben managed a big hairtail going 1.42m (was super thick though, never seen one that fat!). The night continued like this with non-stop tailor/hairtail and a huge salmon just under 70cm! Super excited for the social! Tag

  18. Hey raiders, On my last trout fishing trip before season closed, fished up a 6-8kg 2 piece shimano catana rod. The reel on it (4000 size sienna) was pretty gone, but the rod is fine. Since i do a lot of jewfish fishing, particularly with livebaits, was thinking of getting a 4000 size baitrunner style reel (spooled with mono) to match the rod. However i have no idea which ones are good or not, i was looking at either a shimano baitrunner or an okuma baitfeeder but i havent used any of these reels before and am not sure where to go. Any help would be much appreciated! (Budget <$150ish) Thanks, Tag
