  1. Thanks Zoran, Appreciate the time.....hope you get that outboard fixed and it's not a major problem. Cheers Dave
  2. Thanks Zoran....appreciate the help, Apparently my chartplotter supports both NMEA 2000 and NMEA 0183 but it appears that the VHF Radio supports only NMEA 0183 but it has 2x NMEA 0183 connections. Is this normal? One more question....what's the Baudrate thing, what should I set it to once connected? See below copied from Manual... NMEA PORTS The GX600D features two NMEA ports labelled NMEA1 and NMEA2. These are available on the rear panel. NMEA sentences generated by the GX600D will appear on the output of both ports. In addition, any NMEA sentences received at the input of one port will be mirrored at the output of the other port. The NMEA Baudrate of each port can be set separately from within the Setup menu. Available Baud rates are 4800, 9600,19200 and 38400bps. NMEA 0183 DATA The GX600D recognises the following standard NMEA sentences. You may need to select NMEA 0183 Input/Output using the interface settings on your GPS, Plotter or connected device. NMEA Input from GPS: GPGLL, GPGAA, GPRMC, GPGNS (v2.x) NMEA Output to plotter:GPDSC(v2.x)GPDSE(v3.x) Yellow - NMEA Out Blue - NMEA In Black - Common(Gnd) As far as the MMSI Number, looks like you can't get one from the authorities unless you have done the course.....does this mean the DSC is useless without the MMSI? Copied from the AMSA website.... Before applying for an Australian MMSI number you must have: An ACMA Maritime Ship Station Licence and Callsign for an MF/HF transceiver Vessel registered in Australia (except Northern Territory) Marine radio operator qualifications. The following types are accepted: Australian Waters Qualification (AWQ) – (See Notes 2 and 3) Short Range Certificate of Proficiency (Marine Radio Operators VHF Certificate of Proficiency – MROVCP) (See Note 3) Long Range Certificate (Marine Radio Operators Certificate of Proficiency – MROCP) GMDSS First Class Radio Electronic Certificate - 1st Class REC GMDSS Second Class Radio Electronic Certificate - 2nd Class REC GMDSS General Operator's Certificate - GOC Restricted Radio Operator's Certificate or Proficiency – RROCP Cheers Dave
  3. Hi Raiders, Since we are discussing radios, I'm still to get my head around this NMEA 0183 and NMEA 2000. What is the difference? I have a HDS Gen2 Touch Chartplotter and a GME 600D VHF Marine Radio with DSC. Apparently, you can connect the two together so that your GPS mark will be transmitted if the DSC button on the radio is pressed in case of emergency. How do you connect the two.... is it via NMEA 2000 or NMEA 0183? Also, played around with the radio and it asks for a MMSI number? How do you obtain one? Any help is appreciated... Cheers Dave
  4. Slimey is short for a Slimey Mackerel.... Yakka is short for Yellowtail... Small fish about 10-20cm in size....great for live baiting. Yakkas can be found most places around structures like wharfs, buoys etc....
  5. Hey mate, I have sent you a PM but just to let you know, once you connect all the positive to the prongs, then you are left with 3 wires from the panel that need to go back to the battery. Using a bus bar to connect these near the panel and then running one single heavier gauge positive wire back to the battery would solve your problem. Same thing for the black negatives. Run the blacks from the devices and from the back of the panel to one central point and connect them to another separate bus bar (one bus bar for positive and one separate for negative conbections) then run one heavier gauge (4mm if you wish) to the battery. This will give you one earth/negative and one positive wire at the battery....much neater. Cheers Dave
  6. You should wire your devices with whatever the device cable diamater is. For example if your device is using 2mm cable, wire the device to the panel with 2mm cable.
  7. Nice haul there, well done. Hopefully this season proves to be better than last....
  8. Thanks Henry, nice of you to share....
  9. Mate, I bought it from BIAS Boating when they were around but I know you can buy a little tube from Ebay for around $30. I think it sells at specialised shops. Checked Bunnings for you and comes up with nothing. There is also a marine/boating shop in Caringbah and other Sydney branches (can't mention the name here) and they sell it too...starts with "W" and they're half the price of Ebay. Just google Tef-Gel and the shop will appear in the first few searches...
  10. Hi Jeff, Best to use 316 grade stainless steel with nylon lock nuts (that's what I did) and it won't move. You also nee to apply Tef-Gel (it's a yellowie paste) where the different metals are touching in order to prevent corrosion as they are different metals. Cheers Dave
  11. Just a quick question. Before you headed out last time and you had to use "both" on your switch, did you charge the batteries the day before or you just went without doing any charging? If you charged them, unfortunately that means the battery needs replacing. If not, best thing to do before you buy new batteries is to charge both batteries the day before heading out and see how you go. I always charge all my batteries the day before outing. Trickle charging via a solar panel is not charging. All that does is keep the voltage up but if your battery was low on voltage (like 10V or something), it won't fill it to 12.8V.....this is where you need a CTek charger to charge it up. Anyway, best to eliminate all possibilities before spending your hard earned. There is nothing wrong with car batteries as I have (and as have others) used them for years. Yes, marine batteries are better as they are designed for use on a boat but I wouldn't just get rid of a battery cause it's not a marine battery. Use it until it dies, then when the time comes to buy a new one, buy a good marine battery....simples.
  12. Hi Dorta, You can have a cranking and deep cycle battery but if I were you, I would keep the cranking and deep cycle seperate. You obviously have the set up already and it would be wise to keep your starting battery separate from your electronics. This way, if your battery uses up all the power by whatever electronics you have, the engine will still start and get you home. I installed my dual battery system about 12months ago and love the fact that I don't have to worry about the battery draining and the outboard not being able to start. I have also installed a VSR (Voltage Sensitive Relay) as well as 2x Digital Voltage displays on my dashboard. Now, I can see how many volts in each battery and the VSR (when outboard runnIng) automatically switches over and charges the 2nd ( house/electronics) battery ONCE it has charged the main/starting battery.......just for a piece of mind. Do you have VSR attached as well? As per below pic....
  13. Well done Clay....that's a nice jew. Looks like you have have some catching up to do nwatson.
  14. Well Done...nice fish. Looks like the boys had a great time.

  16. Nice Scratchie, nothing like your own back yard.......NSW
  17. Well done for your first time mate. At least it was a productive session for both of you.
  18. Not sure about Suzuki Outboards but my preference would be Yamaha, Honda, Mercury or Evinrude. Dealers usually swear by things cause they have a good mark-up/profit on something or as you say, cheaper therefore easier to sell. I have read a few peoples experiences with Suzuki on this site and I mostly got out of it that they tend to have some rust issues. Don't know if anything has changed with the newer models though....good luck with it.
  19. Great work mate....gotta be happy with that boy.
  20. Well done mate! Good to see that someone is getting amongst some action. How big was the Jew?

Plug the crack with her panties....saves you money on the welding. Just don't tell her where the panties ended up, otherwise she will
  22. Well done mate! Days like this can be few and far between. You won't forget that anytime soon.
