  1. I use nothing the only ones that rust are ones i have used and i keep them in the little containers that i buy them in never have any problems
  2. so do you have too use special knots for braid where can these be found does anyone know...That could be why the lines are breaking bellow thier strength
  3. by the looks of it thats what the line companys must not be doing but it does appear to be a problem with the higher braids I will be buying some 9lb fireline for my shimano 2000 bottom drag so i can get a descent amount of line on it 9lb is all i need its done me well in the past (for esturary) i have pulled in 6500 lizards with that and by the looks of it the lighter line is stronger ... I will test though...
  4. its good to fish with mates but new people have different ideas and ya can learn a thing or 2 and meet new people at the same time as long as im fishin i dont care
  5. im sure it will still be good enough
  6. isnt that false advertising or something
  7. yeah i set it to just as the spool starts to wobble slightly thanks for the help guys
  8. I found a good article on overhead casting at: http://www.bishfish.co.nz/articles/salt/beatbacklash.htm I took mine out in the backyard and gave it a test i manage to figure it out it would probably go further with a thinner line and a bigger rod i have 50lb on it for trolling the kingies. Maybe some good braid. Seeing the posts with the huge kingies brought in off the rocks with overheads gave me the idea to try it.
  9. seems too me that the mono is stronger according to that. you will have too let me now NETIC a good braid so i can try it out since so many people like it. I guess its worth a try i would hate to spend the money and it not hold close to its breaking strain. What about the 15lb 20lb 25lb
  10. I have never used braided line only mono and ive caught some pretty awsome fish on it. I guess the reason ive never used braided is because i really cant afford $30 for line i buy the 300m JW mono line even on my beach rod i only have 9lb it serves well the bigest fish ive caught on that line was 65cm lizard (davistown) and 65cm samon. Of course i use 30lb trace Even pulling in Kingies on 20lb mono scary that is. So i guess what im saying is what are the benefits and what do you guys like?
  11. Dude it is real easy to fix you can buy replacement tips from any tackle store get your self some araldite and some cotton the same color as your rod or you can use 4lb mono line you shave the remains of the broken tip off with a sharp knife make it nice and smooth the you araldite the tip on to hold it there. To make it easier to tie the new tip on with. tie the new tip with the cotton or mono line you rap the line around and around so thats its real tight and close together then araldite the lot. The araldite has a nice smooth clear finish and its slightly more flexible then most resin,s but it works a treat ive had to do it a few times just make sure to get the right sized tip .
  12. I have a penn 220GTO overhead reel and i have noticed in a lot of photos that people where fishing off the rocks with similar reels. Now i assume there casting. I have tryed to cast mine and i just end up with birds nest going on. Maybe my reel is not designed for casting or maybe im just hopless. Here is a photo of my reel can anyone let me know if its catable and if it is give me some tips please:

  16. yeah i use 50lb for trolling the kingies and 25lb for dropping in when we hit a bunch ...15lb would definatly be possible and what a thrill trying not to bust off....good luck

  18. Ah do you mean bait prawns my bad i just assumed you meant for eating
  19. Awsome I will definatly be checking them out
  20. salt is a preservative it is used for preservation mainly with prawns and you salt them while there raw I must admit though i do like the salty flavour and the wife dips hers in salt when she is eating them. I am pretty knowledgable when it comes to food and i dont reccomend the thawing and refreezing of seafood as it gives too much time for bacteria to grow giving it a higher risk of getting some tipe of food poisoning. dont quote me though
  21. wow 60 posts absolutey smashing it .... It seems to me something always goes wrong when i go fishing whether its a little thing or a big thing .... Yesterday morning drove down to Davo to go fishing its about 20min drive from my house i wanted to try for some dewies cause of all the rain we had the day before. Anyway I forgot the mozzie spray left it sitting right on the kitchen bench after about 10min of fishing i couldnt bear it any longer i was getting smashed by mozzies i was jumpin around like a goose trying to get them off me...in the end i just ended up driving home and getting the spray but it was such a pain in the ass to pack up all me gear drive all the way home then drive back again....
  22. ....Lucky no one was hurt .... i worry every time i drive past trucks cause there so big and vision can be very restricted especially if the driver is tired and not paying attention....im glad you are OK
