To be honest mate, no one is going to post their kingie spots on a forum that the public can view, during a long weekend where tomorrow is looking to be 27 degrees.. I would get on google maps, and look at bays facing away from the wind, e.g. Long Bay at middle harbour in a southerly or bantry bay in a NE wind. I've found the fishing the last few weeks to be average at best.

Mate if you're after flatties in particular, id ditch the soft plastics and pick up a few ecogear zx30s or 35s depending on your rods cast weight, they'll cast longer and you'll cover more ground and put it in front of the noses of more fish. I reckon the vibrations from it really get the fish attracted to it. try small little hops maybe 3 or 4 in a row that only lift it 10-20 cm off the bottom with 2-10 second pauses in these sets. a lot of the time they'll eat it on the pause and when you go to start again, fish on!

try mixing up retrieves, some that speed, some a bit quicker, maybe some hops and then let it sit on the bottom. make sure that your lure if its a soft plastic is always moving and wriggling. No point if your retrieve is so slow that it doesnt really let the fish know its there

How did you fish the lures for the flatties? Keep the lure movement pretty slow and it is critical to keep it on the bottom.The jig head weight and lure selection is pretty good. I fish the flats near the boathouse occasionally they are good, just cast and keep walking across after a few.

No way mate, I'm usually just going for bream on the flats... Didn't realise that there were jews??? I have a sweet flick of a buddy of mine with a kingie which was pulled out right near the concrete silo in June last year on trout gear

Yeah I used a book as a tensioner and it worked well. If you could look around that'd be great! I would love just to borrow it mate, and don't want to outlay $100's for a thing I won't use for long at all

I've only built one rod before with books acting as rollers... it worked well but it was messy and annoying. Epoxy didn't end too well though, and would rather the rotisserie for sure. I have custom made in the back out my mind, but may as well use a commercial one that someone has had lying around doing nothing! Boatart I'm in Glebe, inner city. Sounds like you've got the right set up for the job!

More guides means more controlled line. Less line slap on the rod blank, and less distance for the line to deviate from a straight path. Theoretically theres more cast distance!

Last year I got a few kings in Pittwater in August. They were feeding on micro bait and fly fishing was essential, they wouldn't touch anything that wasn't tiny, and the ease of recasting with the fly rod meant that you could put the fly out at a higher rate than with lures or bait. Putting whatever livies you could find down deep would also be a way to try and get a big one

I've tried down there recently as well, two 50 cm flatties in two sessions.. Can't get anything except a vibe past the choppers. Would love to catch the salmon/trev in there, definitely more my style of fish

Thats a really good size mate, I live about 200 m away from there ... didn't realise there were trevs that big in casting distance from the point so I may have to give it a go..
