  1. Hey mate, did you get a size on the biggest bonito? I can't seem to get any bigger than 45 cm in the harbour at the moment..
  2. Hey guys, any idea where I can find a 2-4 kg rod blank in sydney? Around the city preferred! Cheers
  3. What'd you use to catch the salmon?
  4. Fortunately it is close to the reel which is the strongest bit of the rod - id imagine the tip would still be far more fragile than the butt with the scratch - so long as you dont high stick the rod it should be ok !
  5. 115 grams is a huge sinker... Not sure if jewies would be too keen on eating something that rockets to the bottom
  6. I misread noosa for nowra! Was reading your post in disbelief- herring ? Big eye? Huh? That's an awesome catch though
  7. With kissing point I've seen them around the huntleys point wharf but haven't fished any further west! A lot depends on how recent the rain has been.. As far as i know i dont see them as much in really dirty water.
  8. Bring bread to any wharf in sydney and the yellowtail will come to you
  9. How close to the mouth of the lake was that?
  10. Hey mate what size sugapen in the sinking or floating? That's twice I've heard reports of kings caught on them!
  11. Are both top and bottom pieces broken at the join? If not get into contact with penn and ask for a replacement part!
  12. I can't imagine a jewfish taking that much line off a reel- 30 lb mono is like 65lb power pro, so 400m of that on a heavy duty reel like an 8000 would definitely be overkill - although maybe not for sharks... Perhaps buy a longer spool of 10-20 lb mono and use 100 m of it for backing and then attach it to 300 m of braid?
  13. what rod are you using mate? 8 or 12 g cast weight with the power to fight a rat is pretty good..
  14. Nah easy solution - sashimi in lectures
  15. do you have a picture of the lure? Always thought sugapens were bream lures .//
  16. Try to get a shimano worm gear reel.. I only recommended the stradic fj because if you find it it will be significantly cheaper than other comparable models
  17. Isn't the lexa in that small size going to work as a bream reel?
  18. If that's the trion with the k guides Hang onto it! Good rod, can throw a range of weights etc. try and find something like a 1000/2500 stradic fj in a store special and spool it up with some 8 strand braid.. Much cheaper option than a whole new combo and will be as effective! Why don't you like the lexa
  19. Essentially I aim for tailor salmon bonito etc with metals just like you want to.. When I'm fishing blackwattle bay near the fish markets I cast 5 times max in the one spot. I change the retrieve style every time. A fast, then a medium, one where I rip the rod tip to make it move and stop and so on. I also try and change the depth that the lure is to try and find the fish. If the spot doesn't work move on 10-50 metres and try again. It's easier to use a sling style bag for this fishing. A 20 gram slug in blue or silver is pretty good for this sort of fishing. Obviously if you can see fish and they're not biting don't move on, keep changing lures and retrieves until they bite. Don't change to bait keep at it and eventually you'll get the hang of it. Mornings I've found are better than afternoon/night for the metals too.
  20. However, I have found that as least during winter the tailor are more likely to strike on a medium retrieve rather than retrieving as fast as you can go
  21. Mug shield even appears on daiwa japans website - something wrong in the translation from japanese to english I think
  22. Awesome prize! Thank you frogleys offshore!!!
  23. lighter the better, depth doesn't matter the current does. The faster the current the heavier the jig head
  24. Grant invented the eye fly - you've come to the right spot. If you're into tying: http://www.fishnet.com.au/flyswap/articles/eyesfly.html.
