  1. Nice one mate! How was the launch and return there? Much swell to deal with?
  2. Yeah I've been meaning to look into some rod holder extensions. I will measure and see if I can use some conduit, thanks for the tip. I was unsure about bigrods comment as he said to NOT use the long hobie rod holders. Leashes are another thing on my list. Do you guys just buy all your leashes? Could be expensive as I can imagine I might need 6+. Any other suggestions?
  3. Are you talking about the ram mount one? So far I'm just using it as it came. Can you put up a pic of what you use? It's all new to me and I'm sure I will be fiddling with things over the next few months
  4. Thanks mate, yes fingers crossed any more
  5. Thanks for the replies guys Cheers guys, it would be good to meet up with a few people and get out for a paddle. At the moment I'm just fitting in a fish whenever I can, with an 8 month old at home it can be hard to make time. It can be tough mate but keep trying and you will get onto one! I was lucky enough to catch my first rat the first time I went offshore with a mate. Then it took me 3 years to get a legal sized king after that. Live bait is great but you can also just cube pillies and throw out an unweighted pilly cube and catch them that way. I have been planning on doing it that way but haven't got my anchor sorted out yet. Thanks mate. The mirage drive is unreal. I was tossing up between an ebay special and a hobie for a long time. So glad I went with the hobie. Yeah most of the way back to the ramp I was flicking SP's under pontoons, had quite a few hits but only picked up a small snapper. It was really enjoyable. I wouldn't mind trying offshore one day, but it will be a while before I venture out that way. Cheers, Waz
  6. Your a weapon mate on whatever you target! Good haul
  7. I bought a kayak a week ago and after a quick trip on Friday to get a feel for it and figure things out I put in this morning on Port Hacking to take it for a fish. It was so peaceful being on the water at first light, gliding along with barely a sound. I enjoyed it much more than I thought I would. Started out trying to catch some squid but couldn't find any. Need to find some new squid spots now that I can't move around the system so quickly and easily to get to my normal squid spots. Spotted a small bust up and flicked metals for no luck and they quickly moved on. Rounded a headland and spotted a very familiar boat three or four hundred metres away and paddled over. There was my mate anchored up in my king spot. Exchanged stories of no luck so far. My mate handed me over a live garfish and I already had a poormans downrigger setup ready. I was circling around just chatting with the boys when the rod with the garfish on buckled over. The fight was over pretty quick and up came a little Kingfish. I was stoked to have landed my target species as my first fish off the kayak. I paddled over to my mates for a quick photo then release him. Wish I had taken a better camera with me but to be honest I really didn't think I'd get a king on the first trip out. Didn't measure him but I reckon low 50's. After that all I got was one pinkie. Told the missus I'd be back by 10am, but only checked the time once and it was 9.52am so made a quick run back to the ramp. Was really hard to pull myself off the water. Hope everyone else has done well over the Easter break! Cheers, Waz
  8. As I understand it this is a list of permitted fishing methods in NSW. http://www.dpi.nsw.gov.au/fisheries/recreational/regulations/sw/methods If the trap fits into one of these categories then you should be right
  9. Great write up mate, an enjoyable read. Fishing trips are all about the memerable moments and looks like you had a few even if they were how you expected them to be!

Hi mate, it's called Didymo. You can read about it here. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Didymo_in_New_Zealand It's not found in all waterways there but in a lot. There are ways to clean your gear after you've been in an area that has it so check it out. Definitely not something we want here in Australia
  11. Very nice mate! Would've been a heap of fun
  12. Haha, like we need more motivation for that 'one last cast'! Great catch mate! Not to many catches of gummies we see on here. Keep up the good work
  13. Cheers guys, that's what I like about the site, always something new to learn! I've been told before that they will wreck the net. Considering how much trouble I've had getting blue swimmers out of the net before I will give you technique a go next time stapo. Sounds like a good way to do it.
  14. Hi guys and girls, I haven't been able to get out much lately, working to much and spending the rest of my time with the new little fella and missus. I've really been enjoying reading everyone's reports so I thought I'd throw up this little report of my own to give back a bit again. We were up on the mid north coast on the weekend staying with some friends and I realised that conditions were perfect to have a look for some prawns. I didn't know the area well so my friend suggested a spot where he had prawned many years ago and we decided to check it out. First thing we noticed was that there was bait fish everywhere showering out of the water wherever we shined the torches. There was plenty of prawns but they were all that perfect size where they slipped straight through the net. There were garfish everywhere so we started scooping them (just incase anyone wonders you are allowed to keep fished scooped while prawning as long as you adhere to size and bag limits). It was good fun catching them and trying to keep them in the net. We also came across half a dozen mud crabs. I very reluctantly decided not to try netting one as I'm sure that would have been the end of my prawn net. Just the amount of life in the water was incredible to see and it was a beautiful night out. At the end of the night we had just 3 prawns. Thanks for reading, Waz Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Hi mate, a few weeks ago I hired a boat up there for a fish. First time on the water there. Was advised to try the Breckinridge channel for flatties a bit further south from where you hire the boats. Didn't have much luck though. Best luck we had was out in the paddock, finally managed a keeper and a couple of just undersized fish. Sorry I can't offer much more than that. Beautiful place to be on the water though. Good luck!
  16. Awesome catch mate! You must of been over the moon.
  17. That's a nice hot session! Would of been a lot of fun. Looking forward to seeing a big jack
  18. Sounds like a great morning mate! Lots of action. Must be nice getting out on the kayak with being able to move around so much easier than landbased
  19. Thanks for the info mate. Sometimes I hear things that have been passed along from mate to mate and I wonder how much truth is left in them. Cheers Waz
  20. Im no expert with this but if the above techniques aren't working it could be because of the large size and a low density of fish (hard to gauge how big from just the description large). In this case I would throw on some heavier leader and cast lures into some snags or structure. Do they feed the fish or fish for them themselves?
  21. Great catch mate! I just have a question for you. How do you keep your prawns in between catching and cooking them? I've heard that they should be either kept alive or put straight on ice, but not allowed to expire in a bucket of water. Is this true?
  22. Unreal mate, always pulling in some good fish. Good stuff
  23. Nice one mate. Good day out. 40ks is a long way out, way past the fads. I'm assuming you new of some structure out there that held them? Not after any spots just curious as to why you went out so far and knew they'd be around there
  24. That's awesome mate congratulations! What a feeling it must have been
  25. Very nice man, a fun way to catch one
