  1. Thanks for the input billfisher. Having only really been fishing for the past few years I have very limited knowledge on the subject and my opinions have been formed so far based on reading other people's opinions online. I've started to want to read or hear some unbiased information on the subject but don't know where to find it. When I read this article by Rob it put a totally different spin on it for me and that's what made it interesting. It makes me wonder why an ambassador for the sport who apparently loves recreational fishing would be pro what some many others are against unless he has good reason. There is always the chance of political reasons, as he himself suggested in his article. Anyway, I'd love to read anything you have on the subject like official reports or studies. Thanks again Waz Edit - Sorry mods for posting in the wrong section
  2. Thought I would share this with you guys, an interesting read by Rob Paxevanos. It's good to read the opinion of someone educated on the subject and hopefully unbiased. http://www.fishingaustralia.tv/post/balancing-fishing-and-conservation-its-not-one-or-the-other Cheers, Waz
  3. Good to finally read your report! Catch of a lifetime. Congratulations again mate
  4. Hey fellas, I was down in narooma last weekend and my brother and I took my dad out for a fish on a hire boat. It was the first time for me fishing wadonga inlet from the water so it was a bit of an experiment. My brother and dad aren't much into fishing so the first hour or so for me was tying knots and untangling lines haha all part of the fun. Tried to drift the shallows for flathead but with current moving so fast and me keeping an eye on everything it was a bit difficult. Moved to the rocky shorelines and the boys started catching pinkies which kept them happy while I flicked plastics. The first and only fish for me was a 38cm flathead. Had a few other taps but no hook ups. Don't have the photo of that one. Not long after my dad hooked up to a good fish. I thought he had finally hooked a legal snapper as he was leading up to it getting bigger and bigger. Turned out to be a bream and we were just as happy at 36cm. That was on squid bait. Unfortunately my brother didn't land a legal fish, but I gave him the flathead to take home. It was a great day on the water, and it's a beautiful waterway. Hopefully explore it a bit more in the future. Cheers Waz Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Hey mate, There is a lot of good advice in this thread. Sounds like you are quite selective in the advice you take. My advice is that if something isn't working for you then try something new! Even if it goes against your preconceived ideas, if enough people are suggesting it then give it a go. If you then come home with a couple of fish then it was worth it. If not try something else the next time. With bread as burley, get a keeper net and put a whole loaf in then hang it off the side of the pier and give it a jingle every 15mins or so. You may need a few loaves of you want them to last a few hours.
  6. The motor oil grubz I use are more green than anything else. Not sure what the UV means
  7. Something to be aware of about DEET. Not proven but when you hear the words 'penis defects' then you start to wonder what else it could be doing... http://mobile.news.com.au/breaking-news/insect-repellent-deet-linked-to-penis-defects/story-e6frfku0-1225805789288
  8. I thought this sounded familiar. Then I looked at the poster and realised its my fishing buddy! Haha hopefully see some more posts from you. How about a report from yesterday? Gutted I couldn't be there to see you pop your cherry
  9. Here's an bit of info about the parasites
  10. It's always good when you have someone on board to distract the mutton birds! Sounds like a good day. The cottonmouth is a cool looking fish
  11. That's great mate congratulations on cracking a metre? How is it out there on a week day, any other boats? Also can I ask what time you caught the fish? And what size leader? I was out there last Sunday and seemed like they had all shutdown by 12.30pm. A lot of boats though. Visited 3 fads for 2 just legal fish, tough times
  12. Nice work mate! Was there any structure their like a weed bed or something? I haven't had the chance to throw surface lures around as much as I hoped this summer

    Dunns Swamp

I spent a couple of hours fishing there one afternoon a couple of years ago. Great spot and there's got to be fish in there but I couldn't find them! Good luck and let us know how you go

    Fish candy

I tried the smaller ones for the first time a few weeks ago and landed a 38cm bream, a squid and a just under legal trev. Was very impressed. Bought a bunch more yesterday
  16. The ramp looks like it's an art to master, shallow, sandy, narrow with rocks on one side and it's got a big kink in it. I've spoken to locals about it and the recommend only boats smaller than 4.5m if you are not used to it. If you were asking about a 3m tinnie of say have a go but now way would I try a 6.5m
  17. Hi mate, check out my report from oct http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=75287#entry535751 Most of the fish were caught trolling. Shallow diving hard bodies around 3ft to max 6ft. Also tassie Devils trolled did well. My favorite lure of the trip was a Berkley flicker shad 4cm in rainbow trout pattern. Spinning around drop offs and structure was also good using tassies, hardbodies, spinners or plastics. I haven't been to lake pedder so it could be a bit different and its a different time of year so that might affect it too. Maximum water depth for us was about 7m. Not sure how deep lake pedder is. We had no need for downriggers. Try to get some local knowledge while your there and you should do great. Good luck!
  18. Swags packed for a weekend fly fishing for trout. Can't wait
  19. Looks like an awesome trip, well done
  20. Check out the articles section there's a lot of good info. Here's some of the articles http://www.fishraider.com.au/fishing-articles/soft-plastics-for-bream-flathead.php http://www.fishraider.com.au/fishing-articles/soft-plastics-rigs.php http://www.fishraider.com.au/fishing-articles/soft-plastics-bait-fishing.php Part 3 is a bit advanced though so I wouldn't worry about it yet. If you just want to catch anything of any size then use some prawns on a small hook (size 6 - 10). With plastics you will get less action, but when you do hook something then most times it will be a better fish than you would normally get ie. Little pickers I've wondered myself if there would be any fish in there. I would guess there could be some flathead and would be bream. You just need to find some structure like a wharf, pylons, weed beds or drop offs and there you will find fish. Good luck and let us know how you go.
  21. Thanks for the tips. We will have to try the tugs next time
  22. Cast out and just a mixture of single and double hop
  23. Thanks guys. Yeah I was really happy with the bream. Conditions were great considering 20knot + winds were forecast. Seems like a lot of people go to the tugs for bait, does it get over crowded or still worth it?
  24. Hey fellas, Headed out yesterday on a mates boat to fish Botany Bay. It was our first serious attempt at fishing it and so it was pretty much all new spots for us. Tried for squid and yakkas at la perouse before light. Only managed 2 yakkas. First light we headed out the heads and along the cliffs trolling. After a couple of hours we had enough of the swell and no bites so headed back in. There were a heap of boats just inside north head so we stopped there for a drop. Thought I'd try out a new lure - soft vibe and managed a squid Not much else so quickly moved on. Drifted around kurnell for a while, got 4 whiting all 26cm. Funny how they were all the same size, 1cm under. Mate got 3 flatties. I flicked the soft vibe around a bit more and hooked up to something good. Mate called it for a flattie but I thought na maybe a snapper or big bream. Turned out a PB bream 38cm 900g. Moved again and flicked some lures against some rocks and one of my mates picked up a good salmon. Later in the day as we were heading back in we saw a bust up and chased it for an hour flicking metals. Had 3 hook ups of salmon but lost them all at the boat before we could net them. Good fun but far out the school moves fast. They mostly ignored the small metals we used but at least there was a few hook ups. Overall it was a great day considering we don't have much knowledge of the area. Hopefully next time we'll do better with the live bait. Cheers Waz Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
