  2. Thanks again for the warm replies guys. Mrsswordie if only I had the gear to produce some milk then we'd be out there even more often! 4myson - look forward to him out fishing me - then sign of a good teacher (that's what I'll tell everyone anyway)
  3. Thanks Jim, we are very thankful to the lactation consultants, they were very helpful
  4. Yeah it will be an outdoor life style for this little guy :-)
  5. Thanks for the kind replies guys. Scratchie when I sent her the photos her reply was 'Awesome, I can't believe you'. She's really supportive so it's great
  6. Hi guys and girls, Haven't been able to get out for a fish much lately. Recently had a bub who is 6 weeks old now. His mums gone off to college for 4 days leaving me to look after him. The first thing he said was 'lets go fishing dad!' So down the road, into the sling and off for a flick we went. Conditions weren't great for the little fella with the winds (this was yesterday morning) and me walking backward to keep the sun off him. I knew that it couldn't be a long session but thought we'd get a few casts in after coming all this way. About 8 casts later a fish sucked the lure down! Woohoo Finns first fish! I'm sure he would have been excited but right at that moment he realised he was hungry. I grabbed some of the chilled breast milk out of my back pack only then to realise I had no way of warming it up. Haha the fun things you learn as a parent. Lucky the sun was shining strongly and it didn't take long. A great first trip with the little fella. Can't wait for more moments like these. The flathead went about 45cm on the old handspan measurer. Cheers Waz Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Awesome thanks mate! The link you shared was broken but I managed to find the article with your help. http://www.fishnet.com.au/flyswap/articles/eyesfly.html I've just realised all it was was an extra full stop at the end of the link. I'm still pretty new to flyfishing and fly tying but just ordered a bunch of saltwater tying materials to get ready for summer. I've probably read about the eye flys on here before and always wanted to try tying them. Hopefully this year I'll be able to spend a bit of time with salt and fly. Just waiting on a replacement rod from redington at the moment haha
  8. Sounds like a bit of fun! It's something I've wanted to do for a while. I remember finding a pattern once online for eye flies but can't for the life of me find it again. Do you have a link to the pattern? Seems to me that they are only used in Australia and so don't show up much in searches
  9. I ate plenty of strange things when I was in China/SE Asia like crickets, tarantulas, scorpions and cicadas.... But have to say I never saw a scoop of deep fried blow flies for sale. Not to say I didn't eat any over there, just that I didn't know about it
  10. Flylife is the one I've been reading lately. Top quality. Gives me the chance to dream about all the places that fishing could take me

Wrap in foil the bury in hot ashes for about 20mins depending on size of fish. Easy and tasty
  12. Thanks for the advice guys. Yeah more time casting the rod would be good but I just don't feel the urge to fish Sydney beaches.... Looking forward to get another chance to fish some beaches out of Sydney. Not sure when that will happen now that I've got a little one on the way in about month...
  13. Good trip mate, barra and tarpon!
  14. Thanks mate, the first one was 36 and the second 31cm. It's amazing how hard they hit in the surf too. I'd heard they hit hard but was still surprised.
  15. Hey fellas, A few weeks ago I was up north and got a bit of fishing in. First off was in Evans river at Evans head. My uncle took me out on his tinny looking for bream. It was a slow and wet day but in the end I managed to out fish my uncle with a bream and a flattie. I fished off a few beaches with my 12 ft rod that I haven't used much and wasn't having any success. I need a lot more practice I think with casting it. I ended up camping in the national park just south of yamba. Beautiful place. When sussing out the beaches on morning I spotted a gutter in close. Went back in the afternoon with my 7ft rod as that's what I know best and had a go. First cast and I was onto a bream. Second cast I hooked up to something but dropped it. Third cast a wobbegong, a first for me. Next cast another bream Then for the next 45 mins until sunset it was wobbegong after wobbegong. It was a good fun session but I did get sick of catching wobbies. It's a great place of the world and I'm happy to have caught some fish off the beach. All fish caught on fresh mullet Cheers Waz Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. That article is interesting. I've also heard of using the surf popper on a paternoster rig but only from people in southern nsw. Is it worth a try around Sydney or to the north?
  17. Nice work mate. I have had bream sushi at a nice sushi place in Sydney, it was good too.
  18. Any update on your dam stocking Land Based Fish? I'm interested to hear how it goes. Fingers crossed I will be trying the same thing in the next couple of years
  19. So far the forecast is looking good so fingers crossed. It might not of been clear in my post I mean the weekend coming, not this one just ending
  20. Hi guys, heading up to Bombah broadwater on the weekend to stay on a houseboat with some mates. Anyone got any advice on where to fish and what to expect? I've searched and there's not much info on it. I did read one article that said there blue swimmers around but is it to late in the year for them? Scratchie, do you have any experience with the lakes?
  21. You two are smashing it. Good stuff keep it up
  22. I would try lilli pilli wharf. Haven't fished it in strong winds but I think it would be sheltered a bit from the NE. When are you fishing? Doesn't look like any strong NE winds predicted
  23. Hey mate, I use this website to check the moon rise/set. http://www.tides4fishing.com/au/new-south-wales/port-hacking For example on the 17th the moon sets at 4.28pm so there will be no moon and it should be similar to a new moon. I'm only new to prawning too but this has been working for me
  24. Hi guys, Just a quick report, I'm up at iluka for the weekend visiting some family with the missus and fishing when I get a chance. Fished for bream with my uncle who's a local yesterday morning but didn't have much luck. I've been flocking plastics around the shore without any luck also. This arvo I walked out the front of the house were staying in and threw out some baits (mullet). After a couple of small fish I managed a legal flatty followed by a legal bream. Just as it got to dark to see something big hit my 6lb set up. It was taking line like it was nothing for about 10seconds, then it splashed around on the surface for a seconded and spat the hook. I was devistated it was a really good fish. I'll be wondering for a long time what it was. Had to come home to cook dinner which I'm doing as I write this, then hopefully go back out and brave the mozzies again. Hopefully I'll have more to report.
