  3. G'day raiders After last weeks jewwie success I headed out again today solo for Jews and they did not disappoint! On the water 6am first fish in by 6:15!! Third cast pulled in a Jew at 55cm but being solo on the yak is very hard to get good photos! Looked like it was gonna be a good day I moved quite a bit stopping at spots on the way to a spot a bit further but nothing so headed over straight to the other spot It looked really good around there so stayed for about an hour and a half and bam, a bit over an hour at that spot and on the wind back up got hit hard Fought him out for a while and up comes a 66cm king Great bycatch and first king on the yak Anyway, moved a lot to find some more fish and things weren't looking to good because wind was picking up a bit and a lot of current was pushing through all the spots so around 12:30 I headed over to another spot that thought would be worth a while to stay at... And it was a great idea! Stayed there for a quite a while and with wind and current being opposite it was hard but lucky with the hobie I found a way to drift properly and after a few drifts, pull up to something heavy It was a great fight and a lot of weight and I got very nervous at some points but when a big slab of silver came up and into the net, it was so relieving! It was big and heavy too, so with all my power left in me I peddled as fast as I could to the closest beach or any land I could get on to get measurements and photos As I was putting it on the brag mat, I realised some weed caught on its back, but it was actually a tag covered in weed! First fish caught with a tag in it, a very old tag too The fish measured 80cm on the mat and weighted around 5-6kg I'm absolutely stoked! For my fourth jewwie at 80cm is a great achievement and also first fish caught with tag I scrapped the weed off the tag and got the numbers off it to call fisheries tomorrow That was about it for the day Top day to be on the water Cheers Gianni
  4. My mate that put me onto my first jewwie told me that Jews will leave a few peg mark type bites on the head of the plastic instead of cuts, slices or bite offs on the plastic After catching the Jewwy it showed that it left about 5 peg marks before the point of the hook which shows they they attack their meal head first and the tail was basically still like new with no marks Happy to be proven wrong though That's just what I picked up Cheers Gianni
  5. Bad luck on not getting a king mate Good to hear you still had a good day out Happy to help anytime Cheers Gianni
  6. Thanks again guys And yes Royce the captain was a great guy
  7. G'day raider Well as the title says, I finally got my jewwie I've wanted to catch! Here's how the day went Me and Garth (momantai) organised a trip to head out to try get me my first Jew So up at 5:30am, in the boat by 6am and off we went. Arrived at our first spot which wasn't really showing much action so we headed off to another spot. I was jigging the lure straight up and down keeping in touch with the bottom while Garth was doing the normal cast and retrieve My mate texted me so checked my phone and when I went for my next lift I was on. Straight away called for small flattie, then came up and looked like a tailor, then while swinging it in the boat, realised it was a baby Jewwy! Couple quick photos and was released Then a few more drops there but no fish so made another move further up river. It was looking good, lots of bait around but only got a flattie So made another move and a bit of persistence there and I got a solid tick and hooked up to a solid fish It had heaps of weight, nice headshakes and some nice runs. Garth and I both called for a Jewwy. It was under the boat and didn't wanna come up, but then all of a sudden a big flash of silver appears from under the boat and my heart was in my mouth! Garth was a bit hesitant to net it as he thought it would have gone for another little run but it cooperated and swam nicely into the net I was stoked, for my second jewwie I couldn't be happier It measured in at 64cm and was a very fat, heavy fish. Then we moved to try and find some surface activity in between the tide change but found nothing that was consistent so tried getting yakkas to put out live but they where tiny and not even touching the baits so moved back for Jews By now the wind had picked up which made it hard but we sounded one spot out and found some good marks and Garth gets a little tap and pulls up to another solid fish Fighting quite similar to my one, just had a bit more weight and up he comes and into the net It measured 74cm and yet again another fat and heavy fish And that's about it for the day, we saw a few bust ups here and there but nothing consistent to cast at Huge thanks to Garth for taking me out and putting me onto some jewwies (Sorry for the long read guys) Cheers Gianni

  16. Well done stephan great to see you got onto them I've had my best days squidding (landbased) on over cast days and very calm, no wind conditions (got 15 that day) Then the next day was sunny with a tad of wind and got 14! So I guess it really matters if their there or not Normally too in winter the bigger ones are around, not in numbers tho Keep at it, great bait and for a feed Cheers Gianni Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
