  1. Hi Guys Does anyone know when the FADs go out again?
  2. Hi Mate plenty of salmon about the bay you gotta move around to find them and keep a eye out for birds they'll bust up every now n then. But agree with the fellas otherwise bream flathead and others hard to come by
  3. Well done mate awesome catch and nothin beats fishing with dad
  4. Awesome catch mate, I bet you had some sweat rolling despite the sun only just coming up haha.
  5. Beleive it or not last year at the entrance I cought four mullet on chicken and cheese ! Tried that in sydney and they didn't even look at it.
  6. Yep I had a bad run but at least il know better next time I guess. I always worry that if my drag is too relaxed il end up with a spat hook. Should I up the line strength ?
  7. Hi Mate I was using pretty light gear 12 pound line with 15 pound leader. I think some of the more experienced fishos probably could have landed them. Maybe I had my drag cranked up too tight
  8. Sounds like you had a great couple of days out ! Nice fish I wish my missus would come fishing ! Apparently "the bait stinks " and " fish are slimey" Cheers
  9. Nice effort mate any Jew on plastics is an achievement ! Iv tried a couple of times recently but no success ! Do you let them go because of water quality in the George's ?
  10. Great catch mate ! Good catch considering the weather. And them legal snappers are hard to come by in the harbour these days
  11. G'day Raiders Went to Botany Bay yesterday early to fish the rockwall opposite bare island ( I think it's called mollies point????) Hooked up three times to what I imagined were sizable fish only to get bust off three times ! Then the fella in the boat anchored close by managed to hang onto one long enough to boat it. Salmon ! Really fat and healthy salmon too ! It must have been at least 5kg and around 70 to 75 cm Anyway around 9am the big southerly came in and I headed to the cooks to escape the wind and flick some plastics around but no success. Decided to pack up around 11 and on my way back to the boat ramp came by a bust up on the surface of big sambos. Threw a metal at them and hooked up instantly ! Only to get busted off again. Then another boat wanting in on the action came by and drove straight through the middle of them and sent them down deep, I hung around for another 20 mins but they didn't come back. Bugger ! I try not to get too upset because back in early days I made similar mistakes and copped a fair few tongue lashings haha. Some action to be had but no fish to take home. Oh well that's fishing I guess. Sam
  12. Wow mate that's an absolute horse I didn't even know they grew that big. Great effort by the young fella
  13. Are the stripeys any good eating ? and sounds like you had a great day on the water Jim.
  14. Hi Mate when I go beach fishing I normally try salted pillies I find that increases casting success significantly.
  15. Lucky you mate being able to fish for an hour and half in the avo, I'd take that every day ! Good work on the plastics by the way. Do you find that tide change plays a part in the canals too
  16. Sounds like you had a great time John I'm glad you enjoyed your trip. Great report and I'm looking forward to reading the next one ! By the way, any fisho who doesn't get inked in the face at least once probably hasn't been around for too long haha
  17. Congrats on the new renegade mate I bought one too in April this year they're great all rounders and plenty of features
  18. That is one really fat chunky well fed pig...... Congrats on the new PB. Perseverance is always rewarding
  19. I would love to hear about your adventures in our beloved OZ..... That's a good result 43 species over 4 trips
  20. thanks mate its always a good day when your on the water with a clear sky ! I still cant believe the brutal strength that these fish have, and I agree the legal reds are very hard to come by in the bays/harbours. looking forward to when they get a bit older, cheers cheers mate, agree the trevs are in huge numbers are they a winter species>? I needed a fresh pair of pants after this fight ! cheers mate thanks mate it was a good day looking forward to summer
  21. Hi Mate iv got 3 of the PENN spinfishers and they perform well. You ask a good question but to answer that u need to ask more questions? Are you land based or boat fishing. I would say 50lb off the boat is too much. 95% of the fish you catch won't be able to peel off drag on the 8500 loaded with 50lb, don't forget u don't wana take the fun out of fishing ! Iv been land based fishing with 30lb line and that worked fine. The 8500 is a big machine I think it's the second biggest under the 9500. I would recommend 30 pound like for your general fishing and beef up your leader if your targeting the larger pelagics
  22. Well done mate some nice fish there. Port Stephens is a slice of heaven not sure if that's where uv moved to mate but I'm sure you loved it. I go there every Chrismtas with the family. Frankly with such good scenery around I would still be content with zero fish at portstephens
  23. Gday Raiders With the weather forecast looking good i teamed up with Dad to fish Botany Bay today. We launched the boat at 730 and had the burley trail going at 745, the weather was perfect with little or no wind. After about 30 mins the burley kicked in and almost every cast resulted in a trev or a snapper with the odd undersize bream and some yakkas, the snapper ranged from pinkies up to near legal at about 28-29cm....so close but so far. We hooked onto some legal trevs too going 32 and 34cm. Dad is yet to land a legal snapper and i know he really wants to bag his first legal red. After about two hours of catching trevs and pinkies we thought wed change locations and id flick some plastics in the cooks river while dad works some baits. I had heard reports of the cook river producing jews and flatties on soft plastics but i had never tried, and i wasnt expecting to catch anything as iv never fished the cooks river and i certainly havent fished for jews on soft plastics. We took the turn around the break wall and stopped about 10m past the bridge. I worked plastics while dad threw out some baits, after a while i saw some arches on the fishfinder so waited about two minutes as we drifted over the spot and then cast back into where the arches were, a couple of flicks, BANG, im on. It took off like steam train and as i was using 6 pound mono with a 12 pound leader so i wasnt sure if that was going to cut it, i relaxed the drag a little more knowing well i could well run out of line, after a good 20 or 30m run it stopped and i was hoping that in good form i could work it back to the boat. But i was wrong.....after applying some pressure this appeared to only make this fish even more angry and it took off again for another run and another and another. After a fight that went a good 15 minutes and praying i dont lose the fish i finally had the fish boatside and saw some color, Trevally ?????, and a stonker....i didnt have to lift it out of the water to know it was my new PB. I didnt have the brag mat but took it home to be put in the oven with some garlic and chilli, a measure at home and it went 44cm. Not a huge fish but what a fight ! They are true battlers them trevs. The next cast on plastics produced a nice little flatty which was also kept for dinner. We headed back to our previous spot and got the burley going again, a couple of yakkas came to the boat so dad filleted one for his rig and out it went, we continued to boat some more trevs and pinkies and then dads hooks onto a better fish, using relatively light gear dad had a short fight but managed to boat his first legal red, as you can see he was over the moon. all in all a great day out on the water !
  24. Hey Pete great report and nice dollies where abouts were the dollies hooked and are you finding the warmer water moving in now ?
