  1. Mate that's some great fish there what areas have you been fishing Cheers Sam
  2. I found it it's in the Boating section second pinned post
  3. Hi guys I think there's a post here on fish raider where raiders have listed their boats.
  4. Looking at the fin that looks more like a shark!!
  5. Sounds like an awesome day Jim well done. Too bad there were no keepers but would of been a heck of fun.
  6. Id have to agree with blood knot being kept in a keepers net for hours can't be good for the health of the fish, I've also read elsewhere that the slime and scales protect the fish from infections and disease etc and the keeper net most likely damages some of that
  7. Great report mate very informative
  8. Haha well that is true, I'd rather clean the boat than come home empty !
  9. Cheers fellas it was an great day the water really looked amazing and the weather was great Though I must admit cleaning the boat was a pain yesterday, those dollies manage to hook themselves 50% of the time either through the side of the head or through an eyeball ! And when they come aboard they spray blood EVERYWHERE.
  10. Great effort mate congrats on your first muddy I'm sure hel be great eating
  11. Gday Raiders With the conditions offshore forecast to be ideal it was an opportunity to head out and try some offshore action. After collecting some live yakkas at the tugs i headed out from Botany to the FAD, arrived at 6am with only 1 other boat around, threw out the trolling lures and shortly after double hook up on baby dollies. this continued on for about 40 mins hooking up in excess of 20 times all dollies ranging from 25cm to 40cm, no keepers. Decided to try some live baits setting one at 20m deep and another at about 8 m deep, drifted in the vicinity of the FAD for another hour whilst flicking a soft plastic for no hits on the livies. Gave up on the FAD so headed over to The Peak and there were 7-8 boats floating around. I tied on my Shimano Butterfly Jig with double assist and slowly moved around until i found some bait balls, dropped the jig in the water and hooked up to a rat king on the way down, he went 60cm so back in he went. jigging for 30 mins and my arms starting to get very very sore i finally hooked up again this time to a better king which instantly took off, the bait balls were floating between 20-30m of water so with 40 pound mono and 70 pound leader i was hoping this king wouldnt reach the bottom. finally got him boat side and he went 68cm, dinner sorted. Continued jigging and came up with another king at 65cm bang on legal so in the esky he went. Then hooked up to a cracker of a king which gave my arms a real work out i was already aching at this point and he hit the jig at 40m so i had to work him to the boat a number of times and some long blistering runs before he got tired but he went 81cm and a new PB for me. STOKED. gave up after that and headed home with a big smile on the face and very sore arms, saw plenty of other boats hooked up today at the Peak which was good to see and an absolutely MASSIVE manta ray which swallowed someones bait and took off. water quality and temp looked good at 23 degrees. Given the size of the dollies at the FAD i probably wont consider going back for another couple of weeks until they get bigger. cheers Sam
  12. Hi mate do u have any marks for this spot near the golf course ? Is it anywhere near cruwee cove?
  13. Noooooooooooo ... I have a whole week at port Stephens coming up in three weeks I hope the FaD gets replaced before then
  14. the kings were al molinoux point I've been finding them there consistently between 530am and 8am after that very rarely on the bite. They're normally within 30m of the rock wall that runs along prince of Wales drive.....
  15. Nice report John good to see you ticked off your bucket list. Those flathead are fine eating Mate I'm no jewie expert but more than happy to team up when you come back to Aus and we can both have a go together. Just PM when you plan your trip
  16. I took the boat out today for a test run. Couldn't really tell the difference performance wise, top speed, trim/plane all unaffected... but I did realise slightly more vibration on initial take off to plane. I have a stainless steel prop. I rang the dealership and and spoke to the service section they said because all three blades have minor damage it's a lot finicky work on 3 blades so in labour hours it would be equal to or more economical to just purchase a new prop. I'm still thinking I should get a second opinion/quote. In the meantime it looks like the boat should be ok to operate, service bloke thought so too And yeah.... Jet skiers. It baffles me. It's a really big ocean/bay out there. Not sure why they feel the only option is to fly past you 3m away doing 80-100km/hr. Some people are just brainless
  17. Hi mate recently have found then consistently in the centre of Yarra bay between bare island and molinox pt near the green marker just drift across there but be careful as there are some reefy/weedy patches which are happy to take your gear.
  18. G'day Raiders Fished Botany Bay today launching at 3am. tried for squid for 3 hours and only managed one, saw plenty follow the jig up to the boat but get spooked. Tried down rigging the live squid which lasted all but 30 seconds in the water before I hooked up. Didn't feel like a very big king but it spat the hook before It came up. Single 3 hour squid gone Then tried micro jigging with a Maria Shorecatcher 41gm Pink which I bought new and came highly recommended from a tackle shop and on the 5th cast hooked up to a very decent king which took off on a blistering long.... Long run. I was about to be spooled when I tightened the drag In a last attempt to gain back some line but 2 seconds later my line went slack. There goes Mr king with my brand new jig in his mouth only 3 casts old....... After that moved to the flatty grounds and picked up undersize flatties, one gurnard and an undersized flounder Still a great day on the water, packed up before the wind came in and headed home.
  19. Today I went to the entrance with some friends, it was my first time taking the boat there I had read in many places that the entrance is very shallow, so I drove around at snail speed all day, none the less good old Murphy wouldn't let me leave without something Around midday three monkeys on jet skis were racing ( in a 4 knot zone) and literally went past me about 2 m on either side. About five minutes later I lifted anchor to move locations and then saw them coming back at top speed, in a pack I thrust the motor in reverse to get out of their way and my propeller must have hit some rock in shallow water. All three blades on my new propeller chipped and scratched. The chips range from 1-4mm wide. So the urgent questions are 1. Can I drive the boat between now and repairs, as I've read that a chipped propeller can cause excess vibration and damage the gears and motor 2. Is the damage that bad that would warrant a new propeller purchase. Thanks in advancd
  20. Cheers mate appreciate the feedback I had a pretty upsetting incident today which I will post up separately as I need advice
  21. Hi mate I own a 2014 evinruds e-Tec 75hp. I can only offer advice based on my own experience but I'm sure others can add Advantages, the E-tec engines are a dream on petrol, I have a 77 litre tank and when I'm fishing Botany Bay for a full day will consume only about 9-10 litres, iv also been on a couple of mates boats and pound for pound I think the e-tec has more power-torque than similar engines from other brands. I think the 90hp will do you fine My engine starts first time every time but admittedly it is a new engine so really shouldn't expect any different. Disadvantages, compared to other engines the e-tec is a little loud but still very quiet. I pulled up next to a mercury at the boat ramp on Monday and didn't even know his motor was on ! Couldn't see what model it was because he had a hood fitted on it. Was very impressed none the less.
  22. Thanks for the feedback guys Some more silly questions, how does the thermostat open up if I'm pumping tap water through the garden hose and bunny ears, as obviously the water is not being recycled and isn't getting any warmer. I would like to try the bucket idea but not sure what temperature the thermostat opens up is this in the maintenance manual anywhere ?
  23. G'day raiders Just looking for some advice, are there any specific squid jigs that work better during the night or is there no real difference ? Also looking for some good locations in botany iv read that Yarra bay and towra produce well but is there any specific areas in Yarra/towra that I should be working ? Any advice would be appreciated
  24. Gday Raiders This could sound like a silly question, but how long do you flush your motor running ? I have a 75hp 2014 Etec and when the dealer was giving me a on water demo he said not to flush the motor for more than 5mins because I risk overheating the engine, this apparently is due to a lesser volume of water being accessed by the motor from your hose when compared to in the water. Most people I've spoke to tell me they flush for 10-15 minutes. My maintenance manual doesn't actually give me a minimum time to run the motor when flushing. any pointers would be much appreciated ?
  25. Thanks mate Kings on the metals is a great result in anyone's books
