  2. Well done mate that's an absolutely stonking big whiting I'm sure shel be great on the table
  3. Well done mate some nice flatties there did you keep any for a feed ?
  4. Hi mate I did some work up tweed way there is beach fishing to be had but the surf there can be pretty rough I suggest you try the estuary system just north west the closest to kingscliff is chinderah bay nice flat water there or south u have cudgen creek at the mouth there. They're probably 10 -15 mins walk from kings cliff
  5. Hi mate around Tom uglies freshly butterflied yakkas, squid or prawns put u in for a good chance of flathead, jewfish, salmon and bream. Using the yakkas as live bait puts you in for a small chance with some kings if they're up that far the river. Just burley up at the wharfs and the yakkas will come use the smallest hook possible If ur on the boat and can move around you can move to towra point or wooloware bay plenty of bream and flathead to be had there.
  6. Thanks fellas, I might try that recipe next time and give the Bonnie's a second chance on the plate, as for the one in the freezer I didn't bleed it because I wanted to keep it for bait. Pred-ator I agree there's no better way to start the day
  7. Looking at the charts I think the good warm water hasn't pushed in close enough just yet. Maybe another two weeks or so
  8. Hi mate I only use mono when in the surf, I tried braid a couple of times and I spent half my time fixing tangles. If you want to use braid as pred-ator said try using a snap/clip so your sinker doesn't wear your line down
  9. Hi mate We took one each and il probably use it as bait fillets.... Have eaten bonito before and wasn't too impressed to be honest
  10. Gday Raiders A quick report, had an opportunity for an early morning fish and went out with my friend Chris fishing off the stones yesterday before work. As it was a last minute plan we didn't really have a huge amount of time to get organised. We decided to try Watsons Bay off the Stones and stopped at Rose Bay wharf early for some yakkas. We got to our spot at around 6am and threw out one yakka under a balloon and another rod with a whole pillie on gang hooks and a float. It was really quiet for about 30 mins with the pillies being taken by pickers. After about 45 mins we heard the balloon pop and the line screaming off the reel with the yakka, it was only a short run and it end up being a small rat king, still good fun none the less and he went back to the water unharmed. At this point we realised that in all the commotion wed knocked over the live bait bucket and our live bait wasn't really........alive anymore.....bugger. We decided to butterfly them as fresh bait and put them out and end up with two Bonito around 40cm. We packed up shortly after and headed for home to get ready for work. A great way to start the day before work, wish I could do that more often. Sam
  11. Congratulations mate airlie beach looks like an amazing place
  12. Sorry for the ignorance gents but what is a "shag".
  13. That's really sad that people would do that, it's amazing how there are some fishos out there who have no respect for the environment. This usually comes from a lack of self respect and usually is reflected in everything they do. I once fished on a wharf and found a group of 4 other blokes who had literally totalled the entire place, bait scraps, plastic bags food rubbish and about 16 or so dead yakkas which they had cought for live bait. Disgusting..... Anyway good on you for doing the right thing. Interesting comment. Never heard of any rat kings bein produced durin the night ? Does this happen often
  14. Nice write up John, always enjoy your reports Hopefully that flathead will come soon
  15. Hi mate just anchor up anywhere around molinoux pt with some live squid or yakkas and your in for a pretty good chance set your depth to between 4-6m
  16. The smile on your face says it all Congratulations mate awesome fish
  17. Great report mate and good results My opinion ? - how hard is it the catch and find the mulloway , let alone a legal one over 75cm. I think the size limit is too high Aswell. Typical government over reaction. Years ago there was no control whatsoever
  18. Well done mate looks like you guys had a great day on the water ! They will be a nice feed How do you best eat those kings ?
  19. Hi mate pity to hear you didn't hook up to any kings today. I was also in botany this morning and we hooked up to 5 rats, none of them legal , not even close actually none over 55cm. They were patchy but when they swam past they were pretty thick and they were absolutely not interested in taking yakkas today. All wer taken on Fresh squid and butterfly jigs which were smashed on the surface. Let's hope he bigger models move into the bay soon, better luck next time mate
  20. That's really interesting il be sure to give it a try Haha well I'm sure that would have set your mood for the rest of the day
  21. I asked this same question two days ago on the game fishing grapevine chat section!! I didn't get any responses either haha
  22. Wondering if anyone has had a go at the FaDs this last two weeks I think the warmer water is just about here now
  23. Awesome il be sure to give them a go next time. Tef1on what species would u use them for as bait that's amazing almost anything in the ocean can be used as bait to catch something else haha.
  24. Thanks guys it was a great day I might give those fish a try next time they come aboard, I couldn't find anything on the DPI fisheries site in regards to legal size limits?
  25. Gday Raiders today i headed out for a fish with the old man at botany bay. We spent a good 30 minutes at the breakfast table tossing and turning over wether we should head out to Sydney or Botany Bay. By this time it was already 7am so we decided Botany given that we would be guaranteed a parking space for the car and trailer. ( spent 40 minutes last month waiting at Drummoyne) we finally hit the water at around 8am and headed straight for the tugs to gather some yakkas. they were very thin and far between but we managed a few and with a couple in the tank we headed over to molinox pt, as we arrived i saw three different boats hooked up, one busted off and two landed rat kings. i was instantly pumped !! down went the yakkas and within 15 minutes the rod buckled over and line screamed off the reel. after a good fight a little rat king came aboard at 56cm, he had swollowed the hooks pretty deep so i cut the leader and off he went, hel either grow bigger or end up as fishfood! a great hard fighting fish which gave a good account of itself. dad was using whole pillies and was blown away when he almost had the rod ripped out of his hand a little while later, after a struggle and we managed to boat another rat king slightly bigger at 58cm. a quick picture with dad for his first king and he was stoked ( the smile says it all ). after that the kings went off the bite, so we decided to go for a troll, we threw out the rapalas and headed towards bare island, it wasnt long before something had a go but no line peeling off, only some small tugs? i was pretty shocked to see a trev come up with the treble hook in his mouth, that XRAP is about half his size! greedy bugger. he also went back in the drink to fight another day we kept trolling for a half hour for nothing then anchored up over what seemed to be a patch of reef, we kept catching what i assume are reef fish, i didnt know if they were edible or not so they all went back in the drink, can anyone ID these fish please? all in all a great day, no keepers but still good fun great to see the kings in botany bay so early, i think were up for a cracker summer
