  1. It could be turbulence from the hull causing the unit to drop out? try lowering the transducer if tilting it as said above doesnt fix it
  2. at the moment a certain boating chain has a 30l/min bilge pump for 15 bucks. You could use 1 of these as an option as well
  3. at either of the 3 artificial reefs in yarra bay u can pick up heaps of yakkas, or try watts reef. Havent had any luck on the squid in BB so thats still a mystery to me
  4. I start mine at home the night before, when i get to the ramp i WONT try to start it till its in the water, running an engine dry will cause damage to the impeller, not to mention the excessive exhaust noise to the surrounding neighbours of the ramp. The boat is started whilst still on the trailer then backed into the water, so if it wont start its just a matter of reconnecting winch/safety chain so no more than 5 mins total on the ramp
  5. sorry i missed this but went out yesterday fished all day then came home to a surprise party, after quite a few i was in no condition to fish let alone get to the ramp
  6. could u please add 2 next to my name, got a couple of non fisho's coming along as deckies in hope of hooking up to their first fish/kingie
  7. try using yakkas around the port/starboard markers around molineax pt area
  8. one piece of advice i was given before i started D/R was to do a practice run through the area first so u know how much difference there is in the depth to the bottom. ie u dont wanna start in water say 50 ft deep with the bomb 10 ft from the bottom, then be trolling along into water thats say 35 ft deep. Could be an expensive lesson to learn
  9. bit of berley over the artificial reefs in yarra bay, using a bait rig with a little bit of prawn on it, i was getting double hookups on yakkas every drop.
  10. just adding the easiest way to get the new cones back into the hub is by using the old one to tap with the hammer. ie sit the new one in as far as possible, then sit the old one on top of this and tap away evenly around. If the old cone is tight in the hub, u can use a drift to tap it back out. This method saves slipping with pin punches etc and gouging/scratching the new cone
  11. cheers for the heads up Huey, from the symptoms ive listed i figure its a flow type issue so could be either of the above. When u get a chance could u pm me a price to get the above above repairs carried out as well as a service. Thanks Daniel
  12. today whilst out down rigging my control box started a long continuous beep. I switched off then switched ign back on but the beep was still there. It wouldnt go away until i turned the motor off for about 5 mins. What does this continuous beep mean??? Im thinking that it may be overheat alarm? was pretty much idling in gear for about 40 mins. Always had water coming out the telltale. At home on the muffs at idle the water gets really hot out of the telltale after about 5 mins, however raise the revs a bit and the water cools right down. Any help appreciated guys
  13. With the final few days of holidays approaching i decided to try my luck for a feed of fish in the bay. Was on the water at 6:30am whilst most people were on their way to work. Plan for the day was anchor up berley hard sit back and relax. After 2 hrs of the little bait thiefs stealing my bait around numerous areas i decided to try my luck for some kings. Gathered some yakkas and threw them in the bucket, rigged up 2 rods dropped the D/R down and started the slow troll around the markers. Whilst navigating around a marker and trying to avoid a side impact from the wash of a container ship 1 of the rods buckles over. NOTE this is the first time i have hooked up solo when using D/R. Mayhem breaks loose, WTF do i do first? i grab the rod, set the hooks and start to fight the beast, then i remember the riggers are still down. Furiously i wind the D/Rs up and continue to fight the fish for about 5 mins then the line goes limp. Rig up again and a short time later bang im on, after the first efforts i quickly got the D/R up and fought hard to try and land this 1. Ended up the same as the first. This was the way of the day on 20lb mono till my second last hookup where i landed my first king of 58cm. Had plenty to the boat but to have 1 on the boat well i was stoked. Rigged up again only to be busted off once more. At this point the control box started making a noise i never want to hear again, the shrill of something wrong. Checked oil was ok let sit for 5 mins then restarted all ok, i took this as a sign and called it a day. Great day on the water and my first landed king. Final score mustve resembled a bunnies loss in previous yrs something like kings 20+ me 1

definately remove all plugs before u do the compression test, its amazing at the difference in readings when only the plug on the cylinder you are checking has been removed. just saw your other post. i used to do comp tests cold, then warm the engine up and do another test
  15. after a few man hours and a case of i have removed all the foam. now i just have to clean up the holes where the water should be flowing thru. thanks for the comments and pm's

    Help Please...

agree with pel on this one, if its not currently starting, try replacing/cleaning the plugs first.
  19. took the misses out today on the boat, about 10 mins after we launched she said she could smell a very bad smell from the front of the boat. Headed back to the ramp, loaded the boat and headed home. upon inspection at home, the foam under the front section of floor has absorbed water that has leaked in through the anchor well. Over time has become stagnant and smells terrible. Does anyone have a quick way to remove this foam????? Or do i persevere with levers and scrapers, masks and losing a few kgs from berleying over the side?
  20. not to mention the mullet that hang around the weir too. was down there bass fishing last yr and a guy was just smashing the mullet
  21. always had flatty success walking from the caravan park back towards the woolies bridge. I normally use 3" minnow grubs or 4" shads when i'm chasing flatties
  22. up for this 1 as long as the doesnt go into labour too early will let you know closer to the date if i have a decky spot available
  23. if u feel that u are going too fast at idle, try trimming the motor up a bit. Just make sure that its still pumping water
  24. heard a couple of stories about greenwhich wharf. Might pay to give around there a try
