  11. Hi all, Just a quick report headed out early this morning, and again managed 12 squid in 2hrs , Had 2 be back early so went for a quick check of the markers and reefs. pulled up a just legal king 61cm at Neilson park then headed to quarantine, where i pulled up a Amberjack 55cm. First for me does any one no the legal size for a amberjack couldnt find it on fisheries web site??????. Then just as we were going to call it a day my mates rod buckles over and he's on to somthing solid after about 5mins he boated a nice fat 83cm King!! his pb. Back home boat washed with a nice bag of squid each by 9.30am. All fish were realesed to fight another day Here's a few photos: The king, the Amberjack and the the squid just b4 there heads were ripped out for bait minus a few we used live.
  12. Hi all, Just wanting to install a second battery on my boat was wondering if any one has done so and if so how is it set up!! I want to be able to run the bait pump over night, sounder etc.. and be confident she's going to kick over in the morning. As the outboard charges the battery while running i thought i could have a swithable link between the 2 batterys thanks for any help Dan.
  13. G'day sparkles, Mate if ur keen on catching some harbour kings, squid is the key!!!! I have spent hours and hours perfecting my squiding and i think after a lot of persistance and help from this site i am finaly getting there! As squid = Kings!! As for yakkas i find a pre rigged bait jig preferably a luminus one cleans up!!! But if your've got squid in the live well i dont bother with yakkas!! Not saying yakkas arn't a great live bait this summer the biggest king i caught in the harbour went 81cm, was on a live yakka!! I have found overcrowding in live well can kill the squid! See u on the water Dan.
  14. Hi all, Headed out early friday morning with a that feeling that squid were going to be a little scarce , as lying in bed the night b4 hearing the wind howling and the rain pelting against the window was giving me that feeling that we''ll be coming back empty handed! But to my amazment first cast squid, 3rd cast squid then double hook up as i was running multible jigs, they were coming up thick and fast in 40min between 2 of us we had 12 in the bait tank i got 8 my mate 4, with the new downrigger waiting to be run in on its maiden voyage we new that we were in for a good day fishing. First we downrigged around quarantine for zip. sweel and wind was not on our side, so decided to head in to clifton out of the wind a bit at anchor. where we managed to boat six legal kings ranging from the 62cm - 65cm in about 1 hr, next we tryied over neilson park yellow marker wre we boated another 63cm and 62cm model, decided to move on and give the downrigger another run, so headed towards the weeding cake within a 1min of downrigging it went off my mate was on strike he boated a 68cm king. Tryed a few other spots around the harbour for a few good hits but no hookups, to many pickers. A funny thing did happen when anchored of the bombora at Grotto pt pulled up a mass of rope and chain on our anchor just as i was about to turf it back in a baby octopuss starts to appear out of the mass so i quickly got the bait net and dumped him in the live well, not knowing if they were any good for bait i thought i would give it a go, so headed back to clifton again to get out of the wind and the swell, hooked up the occy live on a twin hoook rig thinking nothing will hit it when only seconds after i had set it zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz i grabed the rod and striked i was on but only breifly as it either spat the hook or pulled ah well at least i know occy is a good bait. As we only had one live squid left and time to head in we thought we'd downrig around the weeding cake again. Again it didn't take long for it to go off unfotunatly the knot on the stinger hook failed and i lost him after a short fight as i had landed a few kings on that rig i was sure the knot was sound!! Must of been a bigger fish!! as he was taking alot more drag than the 68cm king!! but will never know! All in all a good day out 9 leagal kings of wich 3 we kept realesed the rest. With the new downrigger producing the bigest fish!! hopfully its not long till we land some of those hoods that are getting around!! a couple of photos from the day and the 3 we kept! Dan.
  15. Just fitted a scotty 1050 downrigger to the boat this arvo . Can't wait to test it out heading out early friday morning in sydney harbour. hopefully pick up some squid(had no problem getting squid on sunday 6 in 40min) and then go out and exchange them for some monster kings. Any tips for the downrigger?? I am probably going to consentrate on the yellow markers and around the reefs!! Dan.
  16. Yeah would be a top idea as i use seabreeze all the time!!! It has wave, wind, tide and weather all on one page!! Thanks Dan
  17. Nice work good to see the squid after the rain. They are invaluable in the harbour!! Iam heading out sunday for an early one hopping i can pick up some squid. Might see you boys out there one of these days!! Cheers Dan.
  18. Nice work on the kings boys Were u using squid or yakkas?? I bet at least 1 of those anchors is mine!!! i have now learnt my leason and change anchors at differnt locations!! Cheers Dan.
  19. Nice one mate! not bad for a short session!! Dan.
  20. Yeah have written up a letter sounds good, ill let you know how i go! went down for a look at the signs today definatly says nothing about needing to reverse park!! Just a inspector on a power trip id say!!! Cheers guys, Dan.
  21. yeah thats the reason i ask as i know the harbour fish are a bit picky when you have a heavy leader, i think when fishing live yakkas a 30lb leader is good in the harbour. At least you get more hits!!! Did you get many hits on the 50lb leaders?? I do much the same! I do fish 80lb leader when using live squid at north head though prob a bit heavy but if theres a biggen there at least yo've got a chance!!! Dan.
  22. to the site mate. Good work on the kings!! good to see the yakkas are working!!! what strength leader were u using??
  23. Bad luck mate!! Thats fishing. I managed a king at the yellow marker and There were plenty of hook ups!!! around 11am Dan.
  24. Normally go for kings in the harbour!! Are there kings up there? without going to far offshore?? Otherwise maybe flatties. Cheers mate Dan.
