  1. Nice king mate and congrats on the release. Good to see some size to the harbour kings
  2. Nice Kings mate, were u live baiting or lures/dead bait? Good result!
  3. Yeah I find the structure a little too spread out in the harbour for the kayak, makes for a lot of paddling. I like to fish the inner reefs just outside the heads, I think you get more concentrated structure close to deeper water and current. Generally don't go more than 500 m out. No need in the summer
  4. Great book isn't it. I am a chef and have worked with Stephen hodges for 3 years and was lucky enough to work on this book with him!
  5. I was going to put one out in hopes of a Jew but my head torch was running out of batteries and did not like the idea of finding the beach access in the dark. i have fished the rocks on the point under the lighthouse at little wategos before. I find them a little sketchy as no exit routes. Had a close call there before. Can't wear cleats on those rocks, the black volcanic type.
  6. In Byron for a week, packed the beach gear. Second session on tallows beach tonight. Few dart early on and a big shovel nose. Right on last light and 1 hour before the high tide score a few good tailor. Quickly bled ready for the BBQ. Good times, love holidays
  7. Just got home from early morning spin session off eastern suburbs rocks. Rubbish everywhere, smelt of piss and old bait. Pillies spread everywhere.(thanks for the burley). Disgusting. Had a good clean up. I will never understand rock fishos in track pants and gum boots! Got A few rat kings , not much bait around. Saw 1 bonnie caught. but great conditions. Tight lines
  8. Nice work mate thanks for the report. Good to see the Bonnies are here
  9. Top effort mate, great looking bass. Might Have to give it a go in the yak. Do you know any good areas to launch from around there
  10. Yeah mate was a xxxrap12 . Black/ silver. Had got a few the week before on same lure.
  11. Just an eBay one. Bout $750 few years back. Just put all the mods on it, no dramas. 4 metres long and nice and stable so goes offshore well.
  12. Yak session out of little manly this morning. No wind and swell ok. Fished quarantine station to out front of north head. Trolled hard bodies in search of the fish, no takers. Stopped at old mans hat and cast stick baits...nothing. Kept trolling to north head and fished plastics ( white slapstix on 1/4 ounce jig head) around the ledges. Not much bait around, no salmon boils. Turned back and had a flick around the "green wheely bin" just inside north head. Finally hooked up to a fat little rat king. Gave me a good tussel on 20lb spooled on diawa freams on my azusa 4-7kg outfit. Quickly released. They were not schooling up like last weekend unfortunately so after a good size Sargent baker we called it. 3 weekend sessions in a row with kings now!! Keep them coming. Hope the bigger models show up soon
  13. Fat salmon! Been getting a few rats at that spot lately
  14. Fished off a mates boat out of botany today. Launched at 4.30 am and tried for squid, tough going with 1 landed. Headed out of the bay and trolled hard bodies along the cliffs, soon after had double hook up.....rat kingfish. Noticed loads of fish cruising near the surface. Loaded the light gear with plastics and cast into the school, hooked up nearly straight away. The next hour or so saw us hooking into loads of fish all in the 55-60 cm range. Fishing 2-4 kg bream sticks with 2500 reels loaded with 10lb ensured many great battles, a few fish busting us off on the light gear. Great fun, all fish released quickly and healthy. Drifted for flathead for only one keeper, plagued by tiny picker flatties. Back in by 12.00. A great day with great company
  15. Shimano t curve revolution coastal 7-9 kg, with a shimano sustain 6000 with 30lb braid and leader. Great light spinning outfit!
  16. Every day is different mate. I mix it up with poppers, stickbaits, plastics, live bait until I find the fish. Actually very small fish for this spot. Feb/March should see fish to a meter and above!
  17. Went for a quick spin session today off the rocks in eastern suburbs, was quite busy at first light when I arrived. Chose an empty higher ledge away from the crowds, productive spot just a bit harder to land fish. 15 minutes in and a hook up on a stick bait ( Maria loaded in sardine). Good fight on 30lb, some deep runs, but I keep him off the reef. Goes 65 and skinny. I keep him for sashimi. Lots of bait moving around within casting distance so flick some smaller hard bodies but no takers. Eventually hook into a decent salmon that spits the hooks on the first jump. Call it at 8.00 am. A great morning off the stones with perfect conditions. Still no Bonnies around but good to see the kings starting to fire up.
  18. Hi guys heading to Byron next week for work. Staying at Bangalow and looking at doing some rock fishing. Will be spinning lures for palagics, tailor etc. Have a car and suitable gear and am aware of marine parks areas. Just wondering if anyone has had any luck around little wategos rocks or the rocks near cosy corner beach. Also looking at cocked hat rocks at broken head. Has anyone fished Lennox head or skenners head? Thanks for any info, much appreciated.
  19. Hey mate I fish similar spin gear for kings around that time of year. Poppers, stick baits etc. I usually head a little more south than Bondi though. PM me if u want details or join for a session. I usually fish pre first light to around 8-9 am, tide dependant.
  20. Try the break wall near molineaux point. Kings to 90 there weekend before last
  21. Cheers mate yeah I only caught pike. Not as deep as expected and certainly not a spot for the inexperienced . Great conditions Sunday but could get hairy easily
  22. Hi guys thinking of hitting cape banks tomorrow after hearing some good reports of kings. Has anyone fished here lately. Very experienced rock fisher just not at this location. Any info on access or safer/productive / deep ledges would be appreciated
  23. Hey mate I fish this ledge quite a bit and 1.6 is a no go. 1.3 is the max I would go for at this spot until u really know how the ledge fishes under different conditions. Don't forget to check the swell interval. Anything over 11 secs is a bit much. Fish the mid run out and u should be ok
