  1. Headed out of Pittwater with a few mates on Sunday at first light after a late start. Still, we managed 2 large squid so pushed out and had a troll along the cliffs for 2 bonito. Checked out a few reefs/wrecks with jigs and strips for kings but no luck. Lots of large slimies and yakkas though so loaded up. Had a bottom bash in 50 metres and found good sized flathead and snapper with a nice sized pearl perch to top it off. We will have a few good dinners this week. Tight lines everyone.
  2. Nice fish boys well done. Good to see Chao on the scene again. I love my deep jigging offshore and got into land based shore jigging at the end of last summer after reading many of Chao’s reports. I always though of micro jigging as using small jigs such as the 15-30 g I use off the stones. The jigs in the pics look 130g +. Is this still micro jigging or just plain old jigging? Not an issue just wondering. Or maybe you are using super light jigging outfits on light line class. Keep up the good work
  3. Nice report, that ledge should start firing in the next month or so. Must be good to get back to the old haunts, hopefully you will be rewarded soon!
  4. What an effort!!! No one can say you did'nt try. Nice work
  5. Cracking squid. Have had some great sessions on them over winter myself. Let's Hope these nasty conditions sort themselves out soon
  6. Nice work, sounds like an epic battle.
  7. With the forecast large swell cutting any plans of getting outside or off the rocks I decided to check out browns rock. Got there early just before 6am. Fished pillie baits while trying for live bait. Got a legal tailor on bait jig that was later stripped up. Landed a nice fat salmon, plenty of just legal trevally and 3 large port jacksons all around 1.2metres. (Got a feeling it was the same fish as each time was a consistent size/ shape). Called it a day around 9 as the place filled up with the late starters!
  8. Mate in my opinion the cheap Diawa reels are rubbish, you really need to spend a few hundred $$$ to get a decent Diawa reel. The cheaper shimano reels around $100 will be smoother and give you much more hours of user pleasure. A "Sedona" will be in your budget or u might be able to pick up a "nasci" on sale somewhere in drummoyne for about $130 . Also Don't look past a "sienna". You won't find a better reel for $50
  9. Hi there, may I ask why you are taking fish when you have no idea what it is, or if there are legal size limits, not to mention possible toxins. Some species are protected and we all need to be aware what we are taking. If in doubt....release!
  10. I have a fin nor bait teaser that I bought recently. Good reel, happy with it and only around the $150 mark for a 5000/6000 size
  11. That's a solid tailor for the harbour and a horse bream there mate. Looks like u are adapting to the local styles very well! Nice work
  12. Where in the bay? Bare island, cape banks, national park/cape solander or browns rock. Maybe have a read in the "safe rock fishing by location" section. If you are new to rock fishing I suggest starting with inside harbour rock options first. "You need to learn to walk before you can run". Don't become another statistic
  13. Nice report thanks mate. Well done on the Jew
  14. We fished 3.5 -4's and I had success with darker colours
  15. Nice feed there. Great fun on the light gear. Definitely something I want to do more of this winter!
  16. Launched in the hacking yesterday with squid being the main target for the session. Great conditions as we headed out, light winds, little to no swell. At our spot each drift was fruitful and in a couple of hours we had our haul of squid. We moved off and found some bait, dropping light jigs on bream gear for lots of tailor. Trolled the cliffs with hard bodies for more tailor. Pushed out a few km to a wreck which held bait, but no predators about to hit our jigs. so dropped some tailor baits down in hopes of some flatties. All small with only two keepers. We sounded up a large school of bait while bottom bashing so dropped sabiki rigs and loaded up with full strings of slimeys. With enough bait to fill the freezer and squid for days, we headed home. Another great session!
  17. Yeah light gear in 5-8 metres of water makes it interesting
  18. Hooking up to them was not the problem mate, I hooked into a few. Landing them on 20lb around structure was the hard bit
  19. With my boat trip out wide cancelled due to swell I prepped the yak and met a fellow fishraider for a yak session out of Kurnell today. We launched at first light and hit a close by reef in search of action. Sounded lots of bait but nothing chasing it. After a few moves in location we found a good school of kings and drifted down squid strips that I had caught during the week. (See post "green eyes"). The heaviest outfit I had packed was 20lb and the good sized kings made short work of me today, losing every king I hooked. I jagged a small cuttle on a plastic that I live baited and it was smashed within a minute. Pulled the hook on this one after a quick tussle. As I was drifting down baits with a fully stacked sounder screen I could see kings circling below. Awesome!! Landed some trevally and big red rock cod but no kings. grest session, good times. Good to see numbers of kings still around the bay..... Next time!!
  20. Always keen for a yak session if u want company let me know
  21. Southern calamari 2.5 Diawa nude in green/black
  22. Yes I will hopefully drop some heads at the peak on Sunday
  23. Been doing some night time squid sessions lately as it's an area of my fishing I want to improve. Headed out last night in the eastern suburbs to a nice spot that has been producing lately. Fished the two hours up to the high tide and got lucky with some good sized specimens. Heat the oil and get out the breadcrumbs!!!
