  1. Bit of a late report...had 3 days over Easter camping and fishing tantangra dam for trout. Great spot with lovely scenery. Was a first for me but my mate goes a lot. Trolled lures mornings and afternoons, and bank fished with worms and power bait . Hit a few streams casting small minnows also. All up 2 rainbows and a brown for me, mates did similar. Bit of a change from my usual sessions. Don't know if I'm converted yet. Few wild mushrooms and a haul of yabbies to top off a great weekend.
  2. Hey mate I was casting out as far as possible, let lure sink to bottom and using same action as vertical jigging but slower, (allowing more sink during jigs) until lure high in water column. Then let sink again and repeat.
  3. I carry the empty yak to the little gravel beach and then carry my gear tub over and set up on the beach, ready for launch. A fully set up yak would be a bit difficult solo.
  4. Yes it's salting ready for my next bream session
  5. Sorry my mistake rick, u are correct.
  6. Went for a quick spin session the other day in the eastern suburbs. Arriving just on first light we StArted with the heavy gear hoping for a king on stick baits. After an hour or two changed to plastics and my mate hooks a good Mack tuna that goes around 55cm. Quiet for a while so I decide to try the shore jigging technique used by a fellow raider. Using my super light 9" 3-6kg set up with 15lb braid and 10lb leader I start casting a 15g micro jig with a nice flutter action. Landed a bonito and a Mack tuna within 15 mins. Both smallish size but good fun on the light gear. Nice technique that I will definitely be trying again. No more hits so called it after a bit. Tight lines
  7. Hit the cooks on the yak just after first light after calling off a planned rock session due to rising swell. Launched from kyeemagh ramp and paddled upstream. Flicked bigger plastics around the bridges in hopes of a Jew, but schools of tailor and lots of follows from big bream had me on the light gear (6lb) quite quickly. Fished the shallow water between the two bridges picking up lots of big bream and 1 flattie. At one point 3 bream from 3 casts. At the second bridge I went back to the Jew tactics but no luck. Fished the shallow water on the way back to the ramp for a few more bream and a horse trevally around 45cm that spat the lip grips and hook while I was reaching for the camera. Met fellow raider "razzel" at the ramp and had a quick chat. Nice to meet u buddy. sorry no pics.
  8. Good work fellas a great catch, u will not forget this one in a hurry. I love north head in the yak, such a productive spot
  9. What an awesome catch, and on such light gear. Well done champ
  10. Quick 1.5 hour session this morning. Fished the rocks hoping for a hoodie. Rigged with 80lb leader and 50lb braid on my heavy spin outfit. Casting stickbaits and poppers. Had a recently caught dead squid under a float on a 12 foot stick with a shimano speed cast 8000 just off to the side of me. Just legal tailor first cast of the stick bait, right in first light. Big salmon on the squid after a bit. Few guys getting Bonnies and a good Mack tuna on light gear/metals. Good few bumps on the stick baits but no hook ups. Notice my rod with float and now a pillie dive off the platform into the ocean. Think about going for a swim. See the rod floating getting taken out to sea. Third cast I snag it. Retrieve rod. Land a big bonnie on recovered rod. Relief!!! good quick session, lots of activity. A bronze whaler about 3 metres length swimming on surface 5 metres off ledge as I am leaving. Lucky I did not swim after the rod! Off to tackle shop shortly for a major service of the Speedcast! Lesson learnt!!! sorry no pics today
  11. I second that, might get a window next few days
  12. I fish with guys who have a stealth and a Viking reload . I have the pimped out eBay job that u have seen. The stealth and Viking are both great yaks with similar price tags. The stealth has the upside of inside hull rod storage if doing beach launch in a bit of swell, but no back support unless u get the fittings put in for a padded seat, but they track great and paddle like a racing kayak so for offshore they are a top pick, very long at nearly 5metres, but light as a feather. (Can also pick colour/ design as built to order) The Viking has awesome storage options and is set up for unlimited add ons. Comes with live bait tank in centre console as well as tackle box, has scupper mount transducer, and a large fish/ice box on the back. A difficult choice my friend
  13. Cracking snapper mate. That's some trying conditions today, well done on persisting
  14. Joined another raider today for a yak session. Launched from fig tree point fishing the bays of middle harbour, out of the wind, in hopes of a king. tried for squid in Quakers hat bay from 6am with no luck. Perhaps too much fresh in the system. Lots of undersize tailor thrashing about, stealing baits and munching plastics to bits. Hooked a bigger model on a fresh caught pilly under a float that released itself boat side. First time for me catching sardines on a bait jig, though they did not last in the tank. Scored a nice sized pinky snapper on a small plastic that was quickly released. Sounded up a lot of good markings that looked very much like kings but they would not take anything. Threw plastics (slapstix) and downnrigged some previously caught/ frozen squid strips and fresh sardines but no interest, even with a stacked up sounder. weather was suprisingly good despite the forecast. Back in around 10.30 so I think middle harbour definitely holds some good kings at the moment, just need to get them to eat!
  15. Sounds like a plan mate, keep u posted, I think we fish similar locations anyway
  16. Great catch buddy, must give the shore jigging a go soon. Just have to learn to put the heavy king stick down! Would love to have a session with u soon!!
  17. 50 lb FC rock. Will be upgrading to 80lb soon as the hoodies will be here soon
  18. Correct mate, my lightest spin gear for the rocks is 15lb so Bonnies etc would have been the intended target. Been meaning to give it a try
  19. That's a cracker harbour king mate. WELL done. Persistence paid off. Been meaning to fish the harbour more lately, it seems to be where a lot of kings are hiding this season
  20. Thanks mate, was actually thinking about switching to a 15 g jig on the light gear to have a go at your technique before I saw some action
  21. After too many missed sessions from the supposed "80% chance of rain" today I said f#!k it and went. Me and my "gaff man" hit the stones in the eastern suburbs just before 6am. 1.3 m swell from the east and a light breeze, start of the run in tide and clear skies. Cop that willy weather! Fished for squid without a touch until first light. Fishing my 25kg gear I Starting casting stick baits and poppers off a low ledge. Over the next hour I keep glancing at the east facing higher ledge that I love to fish, its getting hammered by big spray and wash, I just want to have a cast off it. So I rig up a Maria loaded stick bait with big single hooks, and head to the higher ledge. First cast... let it sink, few twitches, good hit no hook up. third cast.... better hit, no hook up, then another hit.. I'm on....no I'm not... yes I am..... no it's gone. It's just mouthing the bait . fourth cast... c'mon just eat it!! I'm pumped for a hook up now. And then boom, a solid take, I'm on, reel screaming on an already heavy drag, tighten her up and hang on. Now I have lost a good few fish a meter + at this spot from shallow reef and the last time it happened I said "next time I'm just going to lock up and go hard". So I did and it paid off. Kept her high in the water column, let her run when she needed and as soon as a good wave came I locked up and lifted her on the lower part of the ledge, my mate grabs the leader (no gaff) and goes to lift her up the 1m to where we are standing. The leader breaks from the damage during the fight, and my mate comes up empty. We both watch as the retreating swell sucks the fish back into the drink. Oh no, but at least I saw it and it looked solid. And then another wave and we see the fish swept back on the lower ledge, then its gone again..... and then....u would not believe it. The swell pulls back and there it is, flapping on its side on the lower ledge, my gaff man jumps down, grabs it and races around back to high ground... what a legend! High fives and fist pumps followed until we got back to the cars. What a morning!
  22. Nice fish mate well done, conditions look tops! I have seen a few fishing jet skis around, looks like fun.
  23. Definately one of the tastiest fish, just don't over cook or it goes dry. BBQ is great. Try pan frying some skinless fillets dusted in polenta. Cook same as bread crumbs, golden brown. Nice and crispy and good flavour . Works well on the big ones as the skin can be quite thick on metre + fish
  24. Sounds like a great session mate, I will have to join u guys for the next one
