  1. When u heading out, if my boat trip gets cancelled Sunday I will be on the yak
  2. Depends on conditions. I like to move around and sound up bait/structure.
  3. There is a few wrecks in the northern tip of Quakers hat bay opposite fig tree point. Always worth a shot . Squid are available in the bay itself
  4. It's One of my favourite bream spots, very productive
  5. Nice fish buddy, glad to see u have broken the drought
  6. Got a few sessions in between the rain last weekend. Fished the cooks river out of the kayak on Saturday afternoon, hoping for some bream and maybe a Jew. Chocolate water and fast current made things tricky and after many hits on the plastics that did not hook up I was finally in to some bream. Also scored a nice whiting that was a first for me in this location. Fished the fading light and an hour or so into the dark on slightly bigger gear for a Jew but no luck. All fish released. joined the boys on the boat Sunday morning and the plan was squid, the peak...hoodies. Well the chocolate water made squidding hard, tried all across middle head for no baits. Lucky I had some squid I caught mid week plus some from the markets so after a solid effort we called it and headed to the artificial. Sounded up bait and quickly filled the tank with yakkas and slimeys. A nice run out to the peak and we drop a variety of baits. No hits! Leaving my rod in the holder I start having a jig. And of course I get a solid hit on a large squid strip that I miss as I am jigging. That was our only hit so we call it and head in to a wreck in 50 metres. 1st drop on my light jigging outfit and I'm on, Feisty kings just under legal size. Over the next 2 hours we boat over 30 kings, getting 3 legal size. Most of them @ 64cm so we had a lot of fun on 15 -20lb gear. even dropping jigs on our bream sticks just for a laugh. Had a mako around 1.5 metres take a jigged tailor on the way up but I dropped him after some solid runs. monday morning I had a quick salmon session of the rocks with a couple of mates. Little slow with a only few runs but I did hook up and land a nice salmon going 63cm. Great weekend of fishing, might have to book another weekend away for the wife.
  7. Just use a poor mans downrigger mate. Much less complicated and does the job just fine .
  8. Shimano T-Curve 902 inshore revolution. 6kg model will launch 30-60g lures a mile. Light and strong.
  9. Yeah mate that's what I use. Do a half hitch around the tail above the top hook.
  10. Ha ha, they do taste great yowie. I am a chef so I order garfish through my suppliers and salt them down and freeze them in vac pack bags. I have about 10kg at the moment in my freezer at work. The garfish season can be a bit unpredictable so I always make sure I have a good supply so come December I have some to spin off the rocks as they don't usually turn up to February. This year was a bit quiet for garfish so I stocked up when they were available.
  11. Nice bronzie mate, would have put up a good fight. Looking forward to some beach sessions soon
  12. Nice size salmon, good sport on the light gear. Will start targeting them myself soon. Bring on winter!
  13. headed out this morning for a yak session from long bay, targeting kingfish. My mate and I were joined by "krause" for an early stArt hoping to get some squid. We got 1 lollipop and 2 very large hoods which we would strip up. Fished plastics around the mouth of the bay scoring a seargent baker. Rigged up a swimming garfish and downrigged yellow rock, stopping occasionally to flick plastics. Moving north and finding some shallower reefy ground I had my first strike that did not stick. Re rigged and fished the same area for another strike that did not hook up. The next bait goes down and not too long after I get a solid hook up and land a feisty rat king. My mate and Krause paddle over and we flick plastics picking up a few rats each on the lighter gear, we loose the school and I go back to downrigging. Took a paddle north downrigging squid strips and more garfish. On my return I hook a solid king that reefs me on the 30lb outfit. Next gar down and it quickly falls to a big sgt baker. Some time during the action the boys have caught a 45cm tailor, few sgt baker, couple of rats, and a 65 cm king that was kept for the table. We spot some bait, burley up with bread and I put down the bait jig and grab a couple of big yakkas that me and Krause towed all the way back to the bay for no hits. Back in by 12.30 for a good result
  14. I use a small barrel sinker running on main line with a white skirt. Use two hooks on big gars and one on smaller fish. The big gars can be over 100g ea so a rod with a heavy cast weight is best for spinning. I use a PE 4-6 8 foot 2" Popping rod with a 220g cast weight with 80lb line. I work them just like a stick bait
  15. Garfish is my number 1 bait for kings landbased mate, I even downrig them dead in my yak. I have been spinning gars off the rocks for around 3 years and have hooked many many kings on them, multiple ones over a metre. Google "ballyhoo rig for trolling for marlin" and have a look at a few ways to rig for spinning. Have had a lot of luck downrigging them in areas like Long reef. Tailor, Mack tuna and salmon live them too
  16. Nice fish mate, would have fought well on the light gear! A beautiful slab of silver. Persistence paid off
  17. Amazing sashimi, great cooked medium rare on BBQ with a good soy dressing
  18. Quick morning session of the stones before work today. Arrived just before first light. First cast of my xxxrap cast and I get bumped. Second cast and I hook up, big first run on my 30lb setup. Get her in close to the rocks where the close quarters fight has the fish trying to get to bottom. Solid kingfish, 75-80 cm. try for a wash up instead of grabbing leader which results in the fish snagging the hooks in the reef. Gone! 30 mins later hook a solid bonito nudging 60cm on the same gear, xxxrap cast in silver/black. Great fight with lots of powerful runs. Bailed by 8.00 with a rising SE swell getting hairy.
  19. Nice fish mate good to see they are still around. Makes you cry when u get smashed on your heavy gear running 100lb!!!
  20. With the predicted wind last Sunday morning I decided on an afternoon yak session in the cooks. Launched from kyeemagh ramp around 3.30 and paddled upstream. Had a quick flick around the first bridge then started a drift in the shallows flicking small plastics on 6lb on my 1-2kg set up. It did not take long to get my first beam, nice size. Picked up a few more before heading back upstream for another drift. Changed sides of the river and this drift provided me with quite a few flathead, all just around legal size. As the sun began to dip and the light faded I set up near the second bridge. I fished larger plastics on 20lb in hopes of a Jew. The full tide had slowed my drift so I could really get down on a lighter jig head. No luck there so called it at 7.30. Loving the cooks lately as it always produces and the bream are huge! All fish released
  21. Amazing sashimi mate, prob my favourite raw seafood, so buttery !!
