  1. Yeah baby! It was crazy and glad a few others got into them to. It's hard to belive till you see it ya self. We musta gone close to 50 if not more between 3 in 4.5hrs. Poppers definatly the most exciting way to catch em! Greg
  2. An interesting 12 months for me. GT breeding congragations on the Coral Sea, the Barras over the wall and now this! Can't wait to see what's NEXT! Reports of bluefin on the South Coast of NSW have been coming threw over the last 2 weeks. Hmmm havent caught one of them yet.... CSG gave me a buzz mid week planting the seed and to see if I could swing it. Me, sick as a dog with the flu how could I refuse! So within 2 days of the call three of us were on our way with high hopes, a shit load of gear and Micks new 5.8m Formosa in tow on the way to Bermagui. We left at midnight and by 730 we were on the water heading out to the 3000m line The conditions were magic with a soft 5-10kn breeze and bugger all swell rolling in from the east. Anticipation was at an all time high with boats everywhere trolling searching for fish. We saw a few boats hooked up but the buggers didn't like our spread. With lunch time gone and still no action it was time to deploy plan B. As we motored up wind of a deep sea mount we saw a couple of boats hooked up so in came the lures and out went a cube trail. 3rd drop I got taken, nothing better than the feeling of your line pulling tight out of your hands whilst on the cube! Bloody Albi After realease things became a blur...... The bluefin turned up under the boat and I mean stacked under the boat.... After a few fish on the cube Mick rigged up a jig rod. That looked fun! After a few each like that I thought Hmmm time to pop them. Out comes the 100lb Ripple Fisher Popping rod and a 125gm Cubera. Most fun ya can have standing up! 2hrs later they start to shy off the popper.... Hmmm stick bait. It's amazing what a lure change can do. Frezy again..... 4.5hrs and then we pulled the pin on the most EPIC tuna action I have ever whitnessed and If I wasn't there I wouldn't have belived it.... In all that meyham I only pulled my camera out twice. Here is a pic of MIck with one that had been tagged already. A little video, sorry about the swearing and yellowfin calls, little excited LOL I'll post a few more later once the others get their stuff threw Thanks Clay for the invite and to Mick, your a champ dude and a pleasure meet and to fish with you mate, I'll have to repay you with a trip out on NEXT, I just don't think we will ever be lucky enough to see action like that ever again! Greg
  3. Awesome catch there! I remember years ago I was on a boat called Nautitax and we got a 57kg b/bill. I still can clearly remember the site of it coming out of the depths and seeing the thick bill breaking the surface for the first time. Greg
  4. Bermi Bluefin was EPIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. JUst got back! Most EPIC fishing, I'd rate it up there in my top 3 of fishing experiences. We didn't get a barrel but made up in serious numbers! We popped jigged cubes and stick baited them to 35kgs and near every cast or drop got smashed for 4.5hrs straight before we pulled the pin and came in before dark. Get down there before it goes! GregL
  6. We went Jerusalem on wedensday and were the only boat! Fished in 10m and between 2-3m down left them biting at 10pm for 9 landed. Took us ages to work them out on hook up but we had success on 2x2/0 gangs and fish a fillet bait with no wire. Good luck!
  7. bloody seasurface is down, first clear day in months and now I cant get an update on water temps! bloody bloody!

  8. Sounds like a great holiday Ray. Plenty of fishing plus family time as well. Greg
  9. finally the rains stopped but now theres 25kn wsw WTF!

  10. Jew was a little fishy for me, bonito excellent, slimey mackerel excellent, coral trout best! Yellowtail good, similar to trevally. Flathead excellent, snapper bit snappery for me. Seems to my taste buds the smelly fishes don't rate in my book. Ones I want to try, surgeon fish as it's nice and oily and drummer as the flesh is so white. Greg
  11. Been fishing Nitlon PE of late. Only decent braid my local has and after trying it I was very surprised on how good it is. I use to fish with stiff braids like F/L and Stren Microfuse in light but I find the nitlon better for knot strength and casting distance specially threw my Interlines. With the combo of using 2500 reels, interlines and Nitlon I don't get wind knots and tip wraps any more. I also like the Yellow line for visability for line and lure control. Greg
  12. Matt now you sound like my mother! Yes mum I will cut it "one day".... lol

    Strange fish?

That's cool, a few of them in a tank would be awesome.
  14. We or should I say the kids have caught a few out the back of my mums in Hunters Hill whilst catching crabs in the rock pools. At least now they have all seen a few and know what to look for and know not to touch! Very cool and beautiful animal tho!
  15. I don't really think the brown water makes a difference till it washes the bait out of the area. If bait is there the jews will be to. We fish holes to 90ft. At 90ft in a clear parra river ya not seeing anything either. I'd say in brown water fish a lure that vibrates. I wouldn't throw a jerkshad in brown water, change to a paddle tail or a vibe/blade.
  16. Plastics are the go up there. Fish haven't seen them yet. Lures like 7" jerk shads and paddle tails on half oz 7/0 jig heads casted out and hopped back should get bites. Try fishing around rocky outcrops for better results that beach. Otherwise bread trails and floating bread baits for my favorite fish, the Milk fish. See how fast one of these buggers spool you, amazing power! Greg
  17. Mums going away for 3 weeks, now I can get boat access again during the day LOL

Can't useYour big boat at TCD - ?????

  18. It's the chase, the thinking of tactics, the boat driving, the journey, the trip to tackle shops, hunting on the web for gear and info, the peace and quiet, the companionship, the bite, the feeling of watching your fish swim away, the look on mums face when I give her a couple of fish, and most importantly the photo! Greg
  19. Great report again Caddis. Them rainbows amaze me with such different colorations between them all. Can't wait to get up there again. Greg

  21. Thanks guys! Love me fishing and at the moment it's what keeps me going threw life! Lifes full of ups and downs, take my devorce, 3 years so far and still going!! In a finacial climate that we currently have, the livelyhood of over a thousand familys to worry about.... You guys are lucky and only see the best times of the life of Greg..... It's not all smooth sailing but when the times right, play hard and don't stop till ya drop! Cheers Greg
  22. Well six days of flogging the water to foam resaulted in a couple of nice fish a day but one thing, ya couldn't complain about the conditions! Fishing out of Gladstone for six days in a shut down situation we had to look a different species to keep the sanity! Originally we intended to go chase the barra again but after 3 days of 12-14hr days our resaults were pretty average with only 10 landed to 110cm out of 20 bites. We tried every type of lure in the boat and every retrieve we could think of but them barra had lock jaw It wasn't as if they weren't there. There were hundreds of the buggers stacked up on the sounder/sidescans but man we gave it our best but our best just wasn't good enough on the day.... Here is one of the barra caught. This one was a tagged fish and my first tag recapture. She got another piece of yellow bling before release. My 110cm fish pix even made it to a mag coming out in a couple of months so I'll leave the pix of her out of this report. Heres a 98cm caught from the outflow of one of the power stations in the area. The second half of the trip we went looking else where. The barra were just to frustrating and with the weather we had offshore even as an option. With super early starts we went looking for mackerel and queenies that were stationed on the in coming tide out at the enterence of Gladstone Harbour. The buggers were jumping around the area like missiles. 5ft slabs 8ft clear of the water chasing baitfish. 3 mornings, 5 trips to the tackle shop for 5 baits taken and NO mackerels! Travelling out to sea in a boat that has no sides to it is freaky. It's like sitting on a sled skipping across the water. Out there in 65ft of water I still could see the bottom! Oceanic toads and triggers at near every reef n wreck we stopped at till the shallower grounds inshore..... Back in close fishing shallow grounds in the 15-20m mark it was just like fishing Sydney for snappers. Couldn't belive my luck when I had a text book snapper take on the drop, calling it a snapper on the hook up and netting red around 3kgs. Jigging the wrecks with Jerkshads scored some nice Tuskfish to 45cm (potential FR record) Grey mackerel to 96cm (another one) Tealeaf Trevally to 78cm (another) and Goldern trevally to 94cm (4th potential FR record) and snappers. The funniest thing of the trip was watching a nice 5kg gOldern trevally come up and within a few meters of the surface with all of us watching, seeing a massive 200+kg cod swim up and eat the treva! The Chilidog had no chance! A few pics MOses Perch Grey Mackerel Snapper Goldern Trevally Tuskfish Snapper Goldern Thanks Jason for another great trip and putting in the extra effort to find us anything that pulled in such shut down conditions! GregL
