nah man I need that out snappering for all them boats that come over, pinging where I am on their GPS's or the one's that stop 30m in front of me in the directions I'm drifting
  3. Thanks guys for your comments. The lures that we threw that day went from the usual 20gm Tranny, the 5.5" crown shad in water melon pepper and the 4.8" sexy shad, I think Rich might have got his first on a squidgie or gulp, not sure but the shads seemed to be the most liked. I was throwing on 20lb leaders and Rich was on 15lb. In the water we were fishing which went from 5ft on the edge to 80ft in the deeeep sections, there was scattered rock bars along the edge, snaggy to say the least! We fished 5/0 5/8ths and threw them up current and hopped them as soon as you saw the lure tap the bottom. Leave it to long and the line drag would pull your lure along the bottom and you would get snagged. Fishing an FG knot we were able to confidently snap off a jig head only on the snags and would be left with a leader saving time on rerigging. Only tied 2 leaders all day on 2 rods I haven't fished the Hawkesbury for so long! Love the place but man it's huge! There is so much great looking grounds up there and can't wait to explore more throwing the bigger stuff. Still got the goal of cracking a 20kegger, Hawkesbury's definitely the place to do it me thinks. Greg
  4. Started off Thursday with plans to chase reds but the seas got the better of us and a long run punching straight into it was tossed over board. Plan B to chase jews sent us up river in Next and it didn't take us long to score a few schoolies. Today we went up the Hawkesbury for the first time to chase jews on lures. We had a few spots to try and it didn't take long at all to score the first at spot 1. Hopped a plastic along a really currenty rock wall and got my new PB on lures at 18 Kgs on the boga grips. swam away strongly:yahoo: Rich got a couple of nice ones to and also a new PB of 11 or 12 kgs, cant remember. Thanks Rich for a top day out and new jew PB's, YEAH BABY:yahoo: Cheers Greg

    Snapper

did a couple of hours out off longy on Thursday for bugger all.... Was snappering with plastics and jigs.
  6. It seems alot as parts are going to be expensive for a STella. I have been on charter operations where they charge $155 per customer per week if you want to use their Stella's as they service them every trip! I have had an Exist 2508 that has costed over $300 for a service but it did come back with new gears and all, felt better than new! It's like buying a expensive car, $1000+ for a minor service and $3k+ for a major..... Crash it and look out!
  7. Nice one Goo My fave way to eat fresh fish for sure and the best way to eat bream! You can do the same with larger fish in the oven or BBQ by placing the fish in a al foil pocket that you can fold yourself.(double over foil for strength and place on a oven tray) Works perfect for snappers. Just make sure the pocket is sealed and there is space inside to create a steam chamber. The fish need around 18-20min per kilo cooking time this way at 180 degree. I have done fillets like this as well but do find the fish tastes better cooked whole. I was lucky enough to catch some coral trout in QLD last trip, back at the guides house I cooked up the trout fillets like this, some steamed veg and rice, yeah baby!

haha, was worth a shot. Nanook - do you know much about trout availability in the streams around Ophir in Orange?

  9. G'day Zenman I had the local order me in some of the wooden ones they use in store from pure fishing. Hold upto 24 outfits (12 per side) About 120 each. Greg
  10. Awesome read and shots there guys, love ya work in such beautiful country! Greg
  11. New Sage XI3 5wt and Abel Super series 5 in brown trout ordered today. Hopefully my 2x Mad Miller 80lb stand ups arrive this arvo, happy days!

  12. NIce one Stewy! Went down tuesday arvo to the local and caught a few but struggled to get a down for 20mins each time we let one go. Might have to keeper net them till the end of the session NEXT time.... Gars have moved back in the river now, scored a nice bag of 20 after the blackfish session before the sun went down, great way to finish the day off! Greg
  13. I now, after fishing with Richard for the last couple of years, finally have confidence in his knots and will acually fish one of his rods without retieing LOL! FG +2 I use it for all leaders ranging 3lb to 250lb. Nothing better than getting snagged and every time you pop it off, the leader is still there and you only have to tie on a lure again! Did my first attemp at a FG in the dark the other night. First go it worked and took me just over 3mins for a complete rerigg
  14. Nice mix Chewie A bit of advice, don't let the goat fish go, they are awesome on the table! Firm white flesh that's not to fishy in flavor, to eat I'd rate it better than snapper. Greg
  15. The rock spiders are out near every day, seen em there in drizzle rain during winter! You'd think the shrivel would keep em away Good squid ground on the northern side but the audience watching starts to get to ya sooner or later..... They look so happy cheering you on or maybe it's just me, the little asian boy LOL
  16. G'day Kit On this trip a jig in the rod holder worked, yesterday you had to slow wind it up 10m and the drop back and repeat to get bit. Working it like a soft plastic only resaulted in kooters stinking vermon! I dont really fish tides at the moment, I fish when I can. I have only done 4 snapper trips this year, this was number 2 down that way this year. Usually either side by 30mins is prime. We landed 20 nice ones this trip and only fished 3 spots. Once we found them we repeated the drift till we finished for the day. They were thicker in certain areas along the drift but not sitting on any sort of structure. It's a pretty gravelly bottom... Once we had a few in the well we released any that came up good. Any with the air bladder out we kept as they didnt really release well, we tried.... Let 4 crackers go tho The smaller ones are the ones I want. I live by my self so a nice steamed snapper ginger shallott asian style goes down well. This tastes better cooked as a full fish. Yesterday I took an old school mate out for a fish. Not a fisherman at all so the challenge was to get him a fish or two. Rich came down for the run down and what a change! Fishing was tough to say the least. With seabreeze getting it all wrong the run down was nothing like I expected. Battling fog through the harbour, then 15kn winds till dusk had us using two sea anchors just to keep the drift below 2kns! The kooters had moved in and was hard to get a lure through them It took near all day to get him that fish but after dropping a few fish I hooked and gave him(2 were crackers)he hooked one on his own on a plastic he was working along the bottom. It even took Richard all day, even Dave got one before him! Here was my best.
  17. Yeah baby just had a look at seabreeze. Better go fill that boat up, there's fishing to be done!

      yeah baby!

  18. Thanks guys for the comments. It's nice to go fishing in places that doesn't get smashed like Longy! Definately worth the extra effort to get down there for quality fishing. I still think north has better fish than south but south is closer for me to do the run by sea as my boat is not trailerable. I recon my trips a few years back out of Harrington were better in quality and numbers but thats 4 hours away.... Haven't been up there for ages, would love to try some of the newer techniques we have been using on the grounds up there, would be epic! Don't worry dudes, I still do donut days, I just don't post em The other day Rich and I took one of my girlfriends out who had never caught a jew and wanted some action after seeing our fishing pix on my TV screen saver at home, yes we both got beaten 2,1,0 and mine was like 40cm.... Didn't we cop it all afternoon..... 3 years so far of divorce and the ex just sacked her lawyers last friday..... Fishing is what keeps me going through the hard times, it keeps my mind off the bad stuff and retains my sanity. Some might argue lol. I'm still fishing near every day of the week n how many reports do I put up? I live breath fishing ATM and spend way to much time and money on it, well so my mother tells me! I also have been lucky to find like minded fishy friends that are self-employed and have the opportunities to move work around to suit. This has played a massive part in my fishing, time on the water is everything. As they say it's hard to catch fish out of the living room! Cheers Greg
  19. Great report and glad to hear you got your albi Stewy! Sounded like a typical day gamefishing off Sydney, a few nice fish on ice are a bonus. Greg
  20. Went for a little run down the coast today after some reds to pay the mooring fee. Had something on in the morning, so with a gentlemans hour start we ran down to the National Park. With pretty nice conditions it didnt take us much over an hour from Rushcutters fuel wharf to just south of the Hump. Searching out some nice reefy drop offs it didn't take long to get the first and best red of the day of around the 5kg mark. There was plenty of bites, not all were snapper.... There were little ones..... And big ones Even these blokes, the donut kings could hook em. Cool to do it at the same time though! Richard's Mikey's Hmmmm snap snap See it's good to take a moderator out with you, they remind you to add in the drink bottle Well I'm rooted so time to go eat some din din me thinks! Greg
  21. Just watched the best fly fishing movie I have ever seen so far...."once in a blue moon" downloadable off Itunes. Trout on surface mouse flys, nuts!

Matt after watching that, I'm going to go get a new light weight fly rod. It just looks to good! Thinking of a 5 weight for streams, right one?

5wt or 6wt is good. I would err towards a 6, in either a Loomis or Sage- not because of "brands"- but because they have awesome warranties. We need to go fishing soon!

I currenty have a 7 and 9 Sage XI2's, I was leaning toward a 5 for the spead between gear. I'll check em out.

  22. At a grand you are better off looking at brands like ripple fisher and fisherman. My Pascal Short's from fisherman are so much more comfortable to fish with compared to saltigas. As they say, "fisherman rods hurt the fish, not the fisherman!" Greg
