  2. Dudes after seeing these ones for the first time today, I so need to get back and chase these suckers again! Sorry bad language warning in the excitment! Hope you enjoyed. Greg
  3. Cuttlefish baits. Slice your hood section on one side from top to bottom so you can open it up. Try not to cut ink sack. It will get messy if you do! Carefully take out the leg/gut section. Use a 2 hook rig with 5/0-6/0's I like to fold over the gut onto the tuff bit of head near the eyes towards the tenticals. Once hooks are in, (one at the top and the other in the tentical area)you can wrap it onto hooks with bait mate string to keep it neat and castable. Use the hood in thin strips cut length ways and have 2 strips on a hook threaded through once at one end. Yes I suck at MS paint! Greg
  4. Nah we did that the week before last! The score was 8 to me plus 2 bream and Richard 2 Fished 2 locations, Dawn Fraser Pools-donuts, Blackwattle for the above. I miss placed my little camera for 2 weeks, hence the many missing days/phone camera action of late.... Dudes It's all good, no harm in asking questions, without them it's hard to learn new things. I try to ansawer all but some things are just to hard to explain without a practical see infront of demonstration. Time on the water makes the difference. I have been lucky enough to have been able to fish every day last week except for last Tuesday! 6 out of 7 ain't bad! Didn't get to chase jews on Sunday but I did stock up on some more gars last night for the freezer(so much tastier than fish fingers!). Both Richard and I are "in the zone" ATM, the continual casting, winding and working on retrieves gets you to a place where it becomes second nature. The continual thinking, working out where, when and why? For instance, if Rich catches 2 fish in a row with me getting no bites, I will stop and watch his retrieve, go stand next to him and try copy the retrieve to see it that works. Every cast I talk my self through the whole process till the lure is back at the rod tip. Yes it's NOT relaxing but hell, I'd rather be catching fish. If I wanted relaxing I'd take up knitting! Nothing beats time on water and don't waste it. If your not catching change something till you do. Cheers G
  5. If you can get to the fish markets there is Claudio's, the red shop in the carpark, they usually have local Hawkesbury River squid there. Another bait to try would be small cuttlefish. The heads/tenticals with the gut/ink sack still attached make a great bait. You might need to wrap it in bait string to keep it all together if doing big casts off the shore.
  6. No worries Mike, any time mate. Re the lure. We have pictured it in a Jews mouth in a previous post for those that want to do some investigation work. Or there is an article in the current barra bass bream mag;) I have made a promise to the person that put me onto this lure that I wouldn't let it out of the bag to soon. There is bugger all stock in the country hence the secrecy. I've been searching and buying as many as I can and still I only have a handful left and the importer has none till next shipment. One trip out we lost 6 of these $30 bits of rubber..... You can see where we fish, isn't that enough????? Greg
  7. NIce fish off the yak! Well done As soon as it gets warmer I gotta get meself one out of my yak. I'm to soft, to cold for me atm.

Are they those ones that are meant to be 'the first to trigger a genetic feeding response'? Where abouts can you get them?

  11. I work college has had his boat now for over 12 months and has struggled to put a decent fish over the side. During our last work conference a few of us went for a few beers and a cast around the Enterence for an afternoon. We had a great time "bonding" so what a great way to get another bonding session going! So with a little early mark 4 of us set off down to Akuna Bay to launch the boat and off the JB for a session on the Hairy's. It all started off pretty slow, great conditions with a pretty mild night. Even back at the car around 11, the temp was only 6 degrees. Pretty good I thought. I think it took 45min before we scored the first with plenty of burley thrown in to get the bait around and was hoping to try keep them around once they turned up but as soon as they appeared they disappeared... Every 20 mins or so they would return and a couple of us would score a fish on every pass. IN the end we kept half a dozen for a feed and with everything washed down it was back home around midnight. A great fun night out with the boys and will have to do it again soon. Couple of pics. Greg

  13. Hey Johnny We were fishing soft vibe lures similar to the jackall TN70 mask vibe and soft plastics. We focus on any of the deep holes and target the drop offs that scatter the harbour. Wrecks are also favs but you do lose a few lures around these. Your sounder is very important part of the lure game. We usually can find the fish on the sounder before bites so it's important that you know how to drive yours to get the best reading. Side scan that RIchard has is amazing. Search 100ft out each side as well as up and down. Cuts search time in quarter! Jews should come up as big arches on or just off the bottom. Greg
  14. Today it was bloody freezing! Westerlys funneled down the river and for most of the day, against tide made fishing seriously hard. I recon it only took 5 casts for Richard to nail the first Jew for the day but then it just went to crap. Wind got stronger, temp didnt feel like it got any warmer and I recon if we didnt get the first so soon we wouldn't have lasted as long as we did! I didn't score the second till lunch time and that was after doing a lap down the harbour looking for greener pastures. Copped a bashing out in the harbour chop/ferry wash for Browney to catch this massive cod! Richards one from the morning Mine after lunch Thanks again Richard for the day out in ya tub and Browney for the "extra" red bulls! Better luck next time mate! Greg

    Rod racks

G'day Brett. I'm after vertical style racks like the ones in tackle stores that they use to sell rods from. I dont really like rods stored laying down as they seem to bow after a while. My tackle storage is in a spare bedroom so vertical will look a bit neater with the amount of outfits I currently have at home. At the moment I have all my light outfits in one of these. I have one of these over at mums for my boat outfits which works very well. Seen this one with draw storage which would be handy to store all the rod socks in plus spare reels and butt caps. Only down side I can see with these though is that the top horizontal is to close to the bottom one, large popping and jigging rods, the foregrips are to long and then they don't seem to fit properly. The rack itself need to be another 200mm higher. Greg

    Rod racks

G'day Raiders Been on the hunt for some new rod racks/ storage system. I currently have a few wood rod racks of different types that sorta work ok with the smaller outfits. I bought these threw the states but after something a little more to hold larger outfits with reels mounted on rods. Outfits like game rods, popping and jigging. Most of them the rod sorta clips into, to hold in position. The larger outfits the foregips are where the clip is making it difficult to make them work. Currently my larger outfits live in the corner. Not the best way to store rods that are worth so much. I'm after something double sided, hold 15-20 outfits and solid. I don't want it to fall over taking out a shed load of outfits at once, that'll be hard asking insurance company for another 20k for rods and reels! So any Ideas where? Or any body out there with tools n nice wood that can make em? The smaller ones from the states cost about $140 plus $100 in transport each.... So willing to pay around the 500 for 2. Greg
  17. Nepean I have had good sucess on the Smiths Mebapens when the little buggers are about. Gulp minnows in watermelon when they are up in the pools suspended. grub and gold spinner combos for weedy edge dog x gun surface.

The good old Banjo's will get em!

  19. Hmmm I know there isn't much stock of these lures in the country at the moment..... I could tell but I need a few more myself..... I know of only a couple of shops in Sydney that sell them and both need to restock.... Oh ok now, did a quick call n I just took all that my local had...... They are called Banjo MInnows..... Shhhhh just don't tell anyone! hehehe
  20. We use plastics and soft vibes. The soft vibes been our gun bait for sure!
  21. Make sure you swap water alot at the start specially if you are burleying as they will spew up the burley when they get into the bucket. Take 2 buckets with lids if you want to keep them longer at home for next day. Use one for baits and other to take spare water home for water changing.
  22. Plenty still in the river and yep they are getting bigger! Worth making the effort for sure but we get them on lures not baits.... Greg
  23. Us being silly buggers Some out of control popping action
  24. Cheers dudes. Yeah it's been a cracking year with many firsts for me and also plenty of stuff that I havent done in years to. The GT's last October I thought was the most crazy thing I'd seen. Hundreds of massive GT's in schools that looked like moving bombies with multiple fish on one lure if you had 2 hooks on it. Then there was the 57 barras averaging over 1m between 2 over 3 days, incredible! The trouting was very rewarding, 2 newbies with no idea go out and work out a pattern n score 10 fish myself in a day. To go out and get Richard and Dahl their first marlins in a day on NEXT was a massive day to. Of late to go work out a consistant pattern on the river jews has also been very rewarding. To use technique that we were shown up at barras made it even sweeter. Then the tunas...... Very hard to pick a single event but because the GT's and tuna were on surface lures they both stand out. I'm sorta leaning towards tunas because it was without guides and we all scored our first bluefin in one trip, pretty special in my books. Here are a couple more clips out tunas. Greg
  25. When you have caught 10 fish in a row, a break for a drink n smoke and hold the camera is a very welcome break! lol
