  2. Went out for a quick Hawkesbury session sometime last week. D D Donuts! for me on the jews, not even a bite, caught a shed load of hairys on plastics HB's and even surface lures:1yikes: Just on dusk the hairtails had schooled up prawns to the surface, 5tf hairtail leaping out of the water like tailor WTF! Richard on the other hand got like 4 bites for 1 fish landed plus a croc of a flattie. On the weekend went out the back yard for a gar session. Bloody hell they were on the chew for a bit. Double hook ups for a good 40mins straght! Ended the day bagging out and mum scoring a nice 40 pack to eat this week:biggrin2: Took me a sold hour to clean em. Macro head shot Over and out Greg
  3. On the east coast really anything east of anything named is "wide"..... Eg. there is Long reef and the eastern side, the deep part is Long reef wide.... But for me I'd call east of browns wide as it's a full hour steam from home for us.

    Vaucluse Reef

You cant miss it, it's got yellow markers all around it!
  5. went to spool up my new 3000 stella last night, didnt know it can hold 400m of PE1. Do I join 2x200m spools of PE1 or do I use thicker as backing?

  6. NIce little jew and as they say, any jews a good jew.... We caught a few hairy's on the last few trips up there to. Over near Mullet Ck along the northern shore there was a few. Greg
  7. Ta guys. I'd like to thank Richard for his efforts in dragging his boat up there for each session! Without it we wouldn't get them...... We're just lucky to have 2 different types of boats between us so there is always something fishing to do and we are lucky his Mrs is so understanding......well so far anyways lol. Was great to meet up with a couple of Raiders down at the ramp on the way out, Snap-er and co, nice to chatter to you guys, I liked some of the ideas thrown around, I'm packing some new stuff to try NEXT trip for sure! I also got to break in a new rod with that fish, a Millerods Beast Buster LOng Cast Medium. This is a part of a new range of rods Ian has brung out and for the first time he has 2 piece rods! I have been waiting for 2 years for this rod. Many versions have been made and most have failed, the end resault is amazing. Cast's weights between 10-40gms and handled that jew with no dramas. Light enough to cast all day but the power in the butt is just awesome! Can't wait to get up and cast it for the barras! Splits at the handle, fitted with K guides and has the double handle fighting grips for big fish. Worth a look if your into this style of fishing, I know I have had to order 2 others for friends that have seen it. The other rods in the pic are my new bream/bass rods, look weird but in hand epic, they are out of the new control freak range. The sensitivity is all there with your finger and palm on the blank while retrieving. Casting they feel real sercure in hand and not going to slip out. Lighter than any Miller I have own previously and again if your after a tournament quality rod, worth a look at. Fingers crossed it's a snapper run one the weekend if the weather holds, can't wait to test the rod out on one and would be good for a change of scenary lol Greg
  8. What a knob! It looks like it has a little hat on or something! Great bag of snapper and fun times! G
  9. Awesome bass and barra pics, the bass is a cracker! Tuff fishing but ya still got rewarded for your efforts. Them barra bites are smaller than bream bites, freaky ay... Last time I fished the dams we found sitting paralle to the bank/ weed bank and cast down along the edge worked alot better than sitting off it and casting to them. Lure sits in the strike zone longer/ whole retrieve then. Top report and great reading. Greg
  10. oh man that takes me back, I miss family holidays! Running around some little country town with a fishing rod tryin g to catch anything that swims. The family time away bonding, not enough these days! Great report and the kids look like they had a ball! G
  11. Pink and orange for me. I like the 2.5's and 3's to cover ground. I like the hard rip rip retrieve and gulp sray on the jig helps to.
  12. NIce jews Humesy. Our off the cuff missions are always more sucessful, mainly the conditions are always better. Plan a trip, and the weather turns from beautiful and mild to out right scary with wind and rain:ranting2: Usually doesn't stop us from going but thems the days we catch fish and hardly anyone else does..... Greg
  13. With the weather finally coming good and daylight saving:thumbup: it was a quick run up to the Hawkesbury to catch the smaller tides and see if we could stop one of them big ones. Today we landed a couple of nice fish and lost one. I ran 50lb leader today to see if the jews were leader shy or not. Not. Richard was fishing plastics, the Swing Impact Sexy shad to get his one. I ran with the tranny today with the smaller tides, lost one to the bottom but got this sucker on the replacement
  14. I use the YGK leader in 30lb-250lb in mono and a mix of YGK and Fisherman in FC. I like the Fisherman as it's a soft FC so it ties well, I find alot of them are to slippery and hard for the braid to lock down in the leader knot when using friction knots. Greg
  15. Oh yeah going to pull my sexy shad out and hopefully pull some jews with it over the weekend =)

Bro just fish SLOW, smallest jig motions and fish heavy to make sure plastic hits the bottom on each lift drop. 5/8th even 1oz.... Strike at every little bump, jew bites are little ticks in the line or similar to a bream or flattie bite!!

    Happy Birthday

Big Happy Birthday Donna! Best Wishes Greg
  17. NIce colour in the river this morning, hope the jews are out to play this week

  18. NIce catch there but I have to ask, what the go with the PS2 controller? Wow no one went back for the bait with only a half hour walk, wonder if you would have caught less or more with the prawns..... Tell ya mates they are soft, I went back to the car once after forgetting my sunnies, 10km round trip and that was after walking all the way in, 20km by the end of the day..... Still out fished the mate that was there!
  19. When your casting hard and the cast doesnt go far, is the leader knot in the guides? Does the knot clunck through the guides as you cast? Slim leader knots make a huge difference, knots like the PR and FG are super thin and usually cast threw guides no matter what size. a leader knot that doesnt go threw the guides at all is even better if you can get away with short leaders. Of late I have been running 30-60cm leaders for jews and snappers. No drop in bites so far and no more line fatigue from casting a knot threw the guides either. I can now run any thickness of leader to.... Greg
  20. That's nuts! Been at a house party and that happened out the front. Scary stuff! Good to hear no one hurt but bring on the new MM! G
  21. worms for sure, poppers would be worth a run now. Just keep the lure moving and it should get bit. Greg
  22. BRO, I think that "deserted" bay is just like the jew spots of Sydney, everyone knows it but know one talks about it! hahaha
  23. New snapper jew rod has arrived, 2 year wait but worth it in the end!Millerods definately the ultimate casting rod, just like the sticker says! lol

      Converted 2

Ian miller rods are awesome rods. I have 2 short strokers and will never let them go. Owned and used many game rods and the other rods have seemed to soften after years of use. Not these rods at the extent of the other rods.

      G'day Troy

You sure know how to fish in style dude!

  24. I have a funny story about superman's undies! On a trip out west, out on the dams a girlfriend and I were fishing at the back of a dam and the fishing was very slow to say the least! It was a steaming hot day so we found a nice deserted bay and stripped off for a swim and frolic. A few hours later, back in the cabin during my shower I noticed I had a red rash on me. Screaming out "what the hell have you given me woman?" I get out of the shower and see in the mirror, I had red undies on! So there's a trap for young players, always slip slop slap where the sun usually don't shine!
