  3. to be honest, haven't thought that far ahead yet HAHAHA
  4. Me and Krause are looking at going out in botany bay to the runways on tuesday 21/02 for hopefully a 6amish launch. Just a call out for anyone else who is keen? Launching at 630ish at botany bay boat ramp heading straight for the third runway (anyone got tips for bait grounds? very unfamiliar to the area)
  5. Trung, this is the next one I could find which is CB. Bit $$$ but, I think its worth it if we go out as a group often.
  6. Oh yeah true, forgot that we may need a license if its not the correct type LOL Can anyone clarify the laws regarding that?
  7. Hey Kayak krew, at our last mini kayak meet, I brought out some cheap Aldi walkie talkies in a ziplock bag LOL, they worked well but obviously water gets in after a while which should theoretically fry them. So far they have survived but I'm thinking of getting some water proof ones. Not only will they be good for safety when out as a crew, its good for calling the rest of the squad onto fish as we found out last week. Does anyone own any waterproof walkies? I'm about to get some cheap waterproof walkies from baofeng from ebay. If the link is allowed for the sake of sharing important safety equipment. It is down below. Anyone got any feedback? Ill post a pic of what I'm planning to get. Will be purchasing soon as it takes 3-4 weeks to arrive from overseas haha. PM me if you want the link
  8. omg you picked up a mac tuna? :'( cries. How big was the fella? And yesss soon you'll become a hydra, drop one combo, come back with two instead You should name the new yak, 'hydra of the seas'!!!
  9. well well well, today's session has me completely wrecked. Thank you for the write up krausy, here is my side of the story Being first to port kembla after one hour of sleep, I was wrecked. I passed through a maccas and racked up a 24 pack of nuggets, bless the $9.95 deal and 2 burgs (with the intention to share ofc). I'd like to think of myself as the saviour for today, giving life to a starving krause as he arrived at the boat ramp eager to get out there for some big kingies. As krause said, the first hour was slow with only 2 livies being picked up and a handful of ugly little sweep. I switched up tactics and started micro-jigging on the gomoku for the first time in my life. Shortly I got onto a fat salmon, with a quick fight and beautifully acrobatic leap to the backdrop of the rising sun, it spat the hook and tears were shed. A few more drops later and that was pretty much it, no more action for a while then ofcourse tragedy hits for raz and a fish is dropped before he gets onto a nice sergeant baker (estimating roughly 40cm). A few more drops of the jig and nothing before I decided to head to the northern breakwall for a go. Upon arrival, the water was busting up all around me, a few boats chasing the bust ups and I drop the jig again. First drop and I was onto a fat trevally, going 40cm. Whilst I had the fish on, I was calling the boys over on the walkie, as soon as I popped the trev in the yak, I saw another boat hook up and I dropped the jig down again. Second drop and I was on, it was peeling line, I was stoked, turned out it was a 30cm kingy!!! TOO CUTE. I almost took it home for the aquarium (joking joking, thats illegal a f) But never the less super cute and put up a fight for much bigger than it seemed. By the time the boys were around, everyone started hooking up within the hour, smashing kingies left right and centre up to 60cm, with krause picking up the biggest of the day at 63. Just prior to the pick up, raz had hooked up to this first for the day and come over for a measure when tragedy struck and an outfit went overboard during the handover (hope you picked up a nice combo after!! ). Regardless we pushed on and as I pulled up next to krause while he was checking bait, a metre or so hammerhead circled his bait, pretty cool (also a good edition for the fish tank). Pushing on, everyone was hooking up and smashing kings and I landed an eastern fiddler ray at roughly 50cm, thats a first for me so that was pretty cool. Pushing on kingie after kingie and almost being flipped by some idiots speeding past us, I can safely say it was a great day out with lads. Nice meeting a few of you boys which I haven't met before and I definitely look forward to more sessions together!!! Let's hopefully get into a few legals next time aye, but for now, my back is gone and my ass cheeks are also gone, I believe it's time to sleep hahahah. All the videos I took today are on my Instagram, nothing special. But here are the photos I managed to take P.S NEVER TRY TO FIGHT KINGS OFF THE YAK AFTER BACK DAY AT THE GYM.... You're in for some crazy suffering

  12. Hey Raiders, I've started a new health and fitness blog with the intention of showing people the ease of eating well and the benefits that come with it. I'll be coming up with hopefully some new ways to cook the fish I catch and as I haven't gotten out to fish in a while, all I can do is eat that frozen stuff no fresh goodies. If you're interested in my blog, shoot me a PM and you can follow it as I don't want to advertise according to site rules. Here is a quick and easy salad to whip up. For all the Raiders here who are looking out for their macros and calories, I'll include them down below aswell. Ingredients - 250g raw whiting fillet - 100g mixed greens salad mix - 100g cherry tomatoes - 50g low fat cottage cheese - 60g balsamic vinegar - Wedge of lime/lemon Cooking Instructions 1. Grill whiting fillets. If the fillet is frozen, heat pan on med-high heat and coat the surface with olive oil. Once hot place fillet on top (stand back as the water and oil causes oil pops). Grill fillet on med-high heat for 2 mins each side then flip back and cook for 2 mins each side at low-med heat and then turn off fire and let it sit for 1 minute on the pan. 2. Mix the salad mix, chopped cherry tomatoes and cottage cheese to form a salad base. 3. Drizzle the salad with 60g of balsamic vinegar and serve the whiting fillets on top. 4. Add salt and pepper and basil flakes for taste with a squeeze of lemon/lime. Macros: 54/15/13 Calories: 393 kcal Prep time: 15 minutes
  13. Just picked up a kings kraft today! Hoping to get onto the water soon, will report back Looks the good so far, material feels thick and quality, just need to test it now to see how it moves
  14. Hi Raiders, Long time no post :'( I've been getting slammed by uni and exams are coming up so I haven't gotten out for a fish in forever. I'm going to book a nice relaxing holiday straight after exams and am looking for some suggestions on charters in either BALI or CAIRNS in the days of early to mid JULY. Please PM-only non-sponsor charters. If anyone has any great suggestions, could you please drop me a line in the message centre? I appreciate all the help I can get I would love to get onto some mahi or tuna, or even GTs! Thank you!!!!! Also best of luck to my fellow uni-goers on the forum, see you on the other side
  15. Hahah, wait till uni break! Let's try for some big winter squid
  16. I would love a boat!! Maybe upgrade after uni is over
  17. hahaha krausy, looks like my lashing system wins this round
  18. Here is my experience so far on the yak. I have used bungee for the anchor trolley, I do not recommend it. Yes it stretches and allows for give, but adjusting the position of the trolley is not the easier as there is too much stretch even when it is pulled tight. Currently my new trolley uses just your standard rope, not sure what exactly it is haha sorry my rope knowledge isnt the best. I have used a large and small sand anchor, i think 700g and 1.5kg variety or whatever that come in. I lost one large one in the georges from a snag :'( very sad day for me, and caught no fish that day. But if you're out on sandy, weedy bottom you should be sweet. The small anchor will hold fine if you're fishing the shallows or any body of water with no current, a bit of chain helps too! I've never used a grapnel, so I can't comment on that sorry! I believe its about the same price getting stainless steel components and buying just a prepacked kit, most likely a difference of around $5 as stainless isn't cheap
  19. My experience with inflatables so far, I've convinced 4 of my friends to get kayaks, they didn't wanna drop a couple of hundred $$ so they got intext inflatables on special for around $90 which was really damn cheap. Great inflatable, with a skeg, easy to paddle, fast, manoeuvrable, comfy and decent storage space. Takes about 5 minutes to pump with the hand pump so they're in the water before I have my kayak set up. I usually rock up 30 mins before them to set up. They have caught fish with it, we've gone into skinny water and it performs great! As long as you're careful you won't pop it. With that being said, I wouldn't take it near oyster beds (mates got sliced cause he spotted a crab and forgot to paddle...) But easily patched with either a repair kit or a good bit of duct tape. With that in mind, I would never take an inflatable to deeper faster water. I wouldn't let my friends paddle and fish at lilli pilli for example. But any smaller shallower rivers/lakes are perfect and easy to set up. It doesn't come with rod holders but the 3M starports inflatables railblaza mounts should help you out. If you want to hit a deep hole and catch monster kings and jews, I don't think the yaks will handle it and you may capsize when getting the fish on board. I would recommend the inflatables for leisure only and paddle small rivers and creeks with maybe a handline or mini rod for bass, bream, whiting or the such. Remember to always wear a life jacket!
  20. Thanks Dr Funk, will check it out
  21. Hi Raiders, I'm currently doing an assignment looking at how the environment effects reproductive endocrine functions in fish. Just wondering if there are any marine biologists here that has some insight into this whilst I search for articles. Thanks!!
  22. How big with this fella? Cracker fish! Well done guys.
  23. Yeee krausy, making me jealous being stuck in uni :'( Buy a wet suit??? Head out in winter sem break?? hahaha
  24. Good job!! Mustve been a beautiful moment, if only a gopro was running to give us a taste of the action yeah it was quite uncomfortable till about the tide change when it flattened out a bit. But hey, make the most of what youve got right?
  25. In reply to yowie's warning, ive never had an issue with a keeper net, but out of experience it adds drag to the yak making paddling a tad harder and im worried of sharks now so ive bought a fish cooler bag, when it arrives, i'm going to try rig it internally. Will post pics when i make it
