  1. Hey Jon you're not interesting in another son by any chance are ya? I do my chores and don't eat much! ?
  2. A queenie or long tom? There's loads of long toms down this way....i wish there were queenies ?
  3. They get Jacks down that far around this time of year (Mangrove Jack) Trevally would be a good fun one to go for in the rivers and off the stones there should be plenty of tuna/bonito around. The breakwalls are great Jewy spots too, not uncommon to get 4 or 5 legals in a session. Last timeI was there an old fella caught three jews on a red and white halco popper halway down the breakwall just in some wash....good tip...watch the locals ?
  4. What jigs do you use mate? I've given a couple 20 and 40g koika jigs a go with a fast retrieve/sink and repeat technique. You seem to have it worked out mate would be keen to pick your brain!
  5. Sadly I've lost probably three of my best fish to this day due to the same situation and not having a "gaff buddy" available. Can't believe you actually got him back! Haha great read. By the way did you get the stickbait back too!?
  6. It's Mannering Park mate, the power station outlet is across the water from you. Just off Rutleys road. I used to chase longtom and bream on surface lures across on the other side of the bank where the outlet is. Always a good spot for some unusual encounters, I have seen a bloke pull up a good 4ft hammerhead in a boat maybe 50m from where you were fishing!
  7. Gotta love the Bronzies! Welcome mate! This time last year we were feeding three 6ft bronzies and a grey nurse with the bonnies we were catching in 2ft of water...they aren't shy and there was blood everywhere with about 25 swimmers doing a thrashing freestyle behind us that they gave no interest too. Im talking about terrigal haven near the boat ramp to put it into perspective
  8. Yep I think this thread proves my point that there just isn't one specific #1 bait for bream. There are a few that always produce but which is best depends on situations. My top baits in no particular order(although I'm a lure and fly only fisho these days) are; * frigate mackerel (leddies) * live shrimp * live nippers * maggots * mullet (stays on for ages and I've caught plenty on just the skin) *white bread and dog biscuits (the smaller and more square profiles are best) - same technique as used by the Europeans for carp... All the baits mentioned will work great too
  9. If you're down the Woy Woy end already it's well worth hitting up Woy Woy bay in the boat on the last two hours of the run out, I like to drift east along the Northern drop off, it's about 8mtrs deep all the way along the shoreline, start up near the entrance to waterfall bay and work down, bigger baits or plastics are better in summer to avoid the baby Snapper (there are thousands) Awesome Estaury Perch grounds on the western pylons of Woy Woy bridge too, using small shrimp style lures sink them alongside the pylons give them two jerks halfway down the water collumb and wait for the tap. Boat or kayaks only for these two options though Good job with your efforts so far, you will have it worked out in no time!
  10. Have a bit of a look through my posts regarding Brisbane Waters, this question pops up about once a month and I have literally posted gps coordinates and maps with other info as well. Two sure fire spots are the train Bridge at the North end where the stadium is (walk beside the train tracks on the path [eastern side better with kids] till you reach the bridge). Or my personal favourite the Gosford sailing club, best attacked from a kayak or boat but still pretty good on the bream and flathead with bait. Good luck mate!
  11. There were about 9 dolly frames a big jew frame and two black marlin frames at the cleaning table at Terrigal this afternoon, guess it's a bit hit and miss. Nothing land based the last few days either.
  12. That's a sick flatty for your first on sp! Well done mate, now you can rip in to those moronic mates of yours ?
  13. Yep seems to be the way doesn't it. My charter running mates are saying there's a few small dollys getting around but no schools to write home about and like you said loads of rats, few more 10kg+ out around the 30km offshore mark. (Don't shoot the messenger only passing on info!)
  14. It's a bit hit and miss land based at the moment, they are definitely around and some big ones at that but just have to persist with it...so far I've had 5 doughnuts in a row following a session where everyone bagged out and returned 30 odd fish each. Can only get better I spose! They're are some good snapper around with this swell though, having some success on unweighted dead baits
  15. Nice report, Summer time see's a lot of broken rods doesn't it! I think we've all been there once or twice.
  16. Decided to head out to Avoca for a session off the stones at low tide today. I have been checking the weather all holidays and scouting to see if there was anything happening, but had been frustrated with the lack of fish on my break. Well thank god I went today again, not only did I get a few, it was going off for 3 hours! With myself and a few others bagging out on Bonito and myself and two others losing decent kings hell bent on making it to the reef. Looking forward to a few more next session but I'm very glad to say if you havent had any luck, it might be all about to change! Cheers, Ads
  17. The old railway bridge in Ourimbah is your best bet, it's tucked in behind the industrial area off a dirt road, google maps should bring it up though, the weir is right next to the old bridge so you just launch from there. Definitely easier than walking the bank around there! Thanks guys!
  18. Thanks mate! The same to you, looking like a great season all round ?
  19. It'sgetting exciting now! Two weeks of holidays just started for me if anyone wants to get out there!
  20. It's been a while since my last post so first of all apologies for that! I have still been fishing, just lost morivation to record and document my catches but hay, here I am! So I had a day off work last week and with the cicadas finally coming out to play after a week of rain I decided it was time. I rigged up my bassing gear with some 8lb leader (6lb mainline) and pulled out some old favourite lures I love to fish with, not for the amount of fish they catch but for the joy of it! The plan was to hit my favourite bass spot- Ourimbah creek If there are any bass fishos out there who are struggling to get a bite or lose too much $ on them please try these two weedless designs! The first is a soft shell cicada with the weedless hook and there are not many fish out there that won't gulp these down the second it hits the water and the second is the classic weedless frog. It is truly a joy to cast one of these directly onto the bank and "hop" it off the bank into the water and inbetween structure. I believe this realistic representation has accounted for some of my larger captures and more timid bass. Easily one of my most versatile lures, they can easily be popped, slid, or walked across the surface and can even be allowed to slow sink on a pause by squeezing the lure to allow water to enter its body. Now that being said, I got up way too late on this particular day but I could see we had a storm on the way and if you don't know already, bass friggin love storms! I get to the spot around 11am, the water is covered in leaves and debris from the strong winds however my spot is tucked down deep in a valleyaway from all the nastiness so I proceed. I begin throwing my cicada under overhanging branches and through patches of debris and was lucky to get more than a few feet through the water without boils erupting around the lure. Two or three were landed (average size 30cm) before I lost my lure to a vine (dont let your weedless lures loop over anything...it becomes a knot and ceases being weedless ?) Out came the frogs and this is when things really heated up. I know that there are loads of frogs in this system, in fact it is one of the areas that the universities use to research our native frogs and believe me they were calling. The second that lure left the bank I could see bass hiding under debris stalking the lure before smashing the thing and me hooking up. The double weedless hook system definitely accounts for more hook ups but don't forget to strike these things, I lost a few by missing the strike and it drives you mad! I know I have mentioned this spot to a few ppl trying to get a start and I can assure you it is now in full swing so get down there and give it a go! Cheers guys, Had more pics to upload but it's a pain in the ass resizing everything, add me on instagram or facebook if you want pics I post photos way more than I write up. Cheers guys she wanted that frog!
  21. That's pretty cool man, summer tuna should be a blast, you'd get some great footage dropping a metal on a school and ripping it back to you on the beach!
  22. Yew! Gotta be happy with that, you seem to have dodged the rats too Well done mate and thanks for the report!
  23. Here you go Watch them in the order I post them, the first gives you a run down on the most common mistake and the second is a full run through.
